Adel al-Nusairi remembers his first six months at Guantanamo Bay as this: hours and hours of questions, but first, a needle.

"I'd fall asleep" after the shot, Nusairi, a former Saudi policeman captured by U.S. forces in Afghanistan in 2002, recalled in an interview with his attorney at the military prison in Cuba, according to notes. After being roused, Nusairi eventually did talk, giving U.S. officials what he later described as a made-up confession to buy some peace.

"I was completely gone," he remembered. "I said, 'Let me go. I want to go to sleep. If it takes saying I'm a member of al-Qaeda, I will.' "

I didn't even know that stuff worked, I thought Jack Bauer was the only one that could pull this off.

As I write my check to the IRS this year, I can rest assured that every dollar of my "contribution" will go to propping up and perpetuating this charade called the "war on terror" -- which in and of itself, is nothing more than a campaign of terror against the innocent and vulnerable. This administration stopped short of nothing to cover up their inside job.

Republicans are a lot more stupid, and have much fewer moral values, than I ever thought before Bush.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:40 PM on 04/22/2008

So you believe all Republicans are like Bush? Does that mean I can make the assuption that all Democrats take advantage of interns or buy $4,000 prostitutes?

Grow up, Bush is a moron but to say that everyone is on his side or just like him is laughable.

Let's start with the Senate. Name me five Republicans that have intellectual and moral integrity.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:06 PM on 04/22/2008

Name five that don't. And being a republican doesn't equal being immoral. We make up 50% of your country so you better get used to it or leave.

I agree. As Lily Tomlin said, no matter how cynical you are, you just can't keep up.

How Yoo can still be a law professor at a top law school is beyond me. Who takes his classes? CIA trainees? GOP trainees? Yikes, how creepy.

I understand one of the female GITMO 'interrogators' was famous for wearing a tight miniskirt and doing unspeakable acts to the prisoners, including smearing their faces with her own menstrual blood. Some months back NPR aired a segment by an anonymous female GITMO interrogator talking about her belief in forgiveness or absolution or some other such nonsense. But she wasn't seeking forgiveness for her prisoners, she only craved forgiveness for herself. I wonder if that anonymous commentator was menstrual blood girl.

Please post a link or some evidence because that sounds disturbing. Anonymous sources don't count sorry.

Let's see: a detainee gets an injection that makes him sleepy.

Isn't that happening in prisons all across America on a voluntary basis already?

At least in Guantanamo, the needles are sterile, and the junk is uncut pharmaceutical grade.

I remember a british marine pissing on a dead iraqi civilian, photographic evidence..Tony blaire is a war criminal..

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:33 PM on 04/22/2008

Good thing "Tony Blair" isn't a war criminal, that would have been bad news.

Let me ask you, if a soldier does something wrong without a direct order how can you link that to Blair? Unless you have some evidence that he told his people to "piss on a dead iraqi civilian" then STFU.

Of course, we should certainly believe these little angels, right?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:47 AM on 04/22/2008

Not necessarily, but we should believe them with the same alacrity we believed the pathologically and compulsive liars in the Bush Administration. Maybe more in the case of Adel al-Nusairi, who has been proven to have had no involvement with al Queda.

It's coming out a little late in the "election cycle" for our brave Democrats to do a damn thing about it. We have war criminals and their accomplices on both sides of the aisle.

Drugging prisoners is a tactic straight out of the old SOVIET manuals for political torture. We see what good it did them.

Well RD, since you claimed Government officials can lie at will, you already established one side of this story as liars:

If public officials are held personally liable for information they provide to the public then we will see an end to public officials providing information. It's not good to criminalize politics or deal with poor politician performance with law suits.

That's the problem now isn't it! Our leaders have shown the willingness to do things that strike against the core of our beliefs about what America is. At this point we no longer know what to believe and this is true for the rest of the world also.

Any takers.

When will someone ask McCain that.

THE U.S. IS BASICALLY USING TORTURE...

As punishment not a form of interrogation. (As such, it has been shown to be notoriously ineffective, mostly eliciting false information.) Guantanimo essentially exists as an institution dedicated to collectively punishing all Muslims for 9/11 through their surrogates who have had the bad luck to fall into the hands of the U.S. military....

1. Fifty-five percent (55%) of the detainees are not determined to have committed any hostile acts against the United States or its coalition allies.

2. Only 8% of the detainees were characterized as al Qaeda fighters. Of the remaining detainees, 40% have no definitive connection with al Qaeda at all and 18% are have no definitive affiliation with either al Qaeda or the Taliban.

3. ...

4. Only 5% of the detainees were captured by United States forces. 86% of the detainees were arrested by either Pakistan or the Northern Alliance and turned over to United States custody. This 86% of the detainees captured by Pakistan or the Northern Alliance were handed over to the United States at a time in which the United States offered large bounties for capture of suspected enemies.

5. Finally, the population of persons deemed not to be enemy combatants - mostly Uighers - are in fact accused of more serious allegations than a great many persons still deemed to be enemy combatants.

SODIUM PENTATHOL...

Or so-called "truth serum" IS a form of torture, if that is indeed what they're using. (One suspects they've developed much more sophisticated drugs in this area.) It completely erodes the subject's will and does permanent damage to the brain if used repeatedly in high doses. As an interrogation technique, it's about on par with electroshock....
