Even better than that staged WWE wrestling match between "Hillary Clinton" and "Barack Obama" was last night's hullabalunacy on Larry King between James "Cajun-Style" Carville and Bill "El Judas" Richardson. Once united as participants in Bill Clinton's administration, the two men harbor some serious antipathy for one another ever since Bill Richardson broke the sacred "two dudes who watch the Superbowl together should totally endorse each others wives" tradition and came out as an Obama supporter. This joint Larry King appearance was apparently the first time two men had spoken to each other since Carville placed Richardson in the Garden of Gethsemane.

It did not go well. Whatever went down between Richardson and the Clintons is a unique point of bitterness to Carville, because he gladly admitted that he doesn't put former Clinton supporter-turned-Obama endorser into the same category, telling King, "Well, first of all, I have never criticized any other Obama supporter. I have many dear friends that support Senator Obama." Whatever transpired with Richardson remained something Carville wouldn't elaborate on, except to broadly imply that Richardson did something really, really mean. In turn, Richardson disputed the implication:

CARVILLE: Again, it was -- again, I don't name names that representations were made to. I've said -- I've had my say on it. I said what I said. I'm in it. And I think the more important thing is, is what's going to happen in here Indiana and what's going to happen in North Carolina. He has his opinions and I have mine. I said it and was quoted accurately. I was quoted in context. I don't take a word of it back.

KING: All right. One of the things said, Governor, that we ought to clear up is had you said -- told people that you were going endorse Senator Clinton?

RICHARDSON: No. I was close to endorsing Senator Clinton after President Clinton visited me in Santa Fe to watch the Super Bowl. He's a very persuasive guy.

But the more we got into the campaign, it really bothered me, that 3:00 a.m. phone call, implying that Senator Obama was not experienced. That's wrong. This man can face dictators. I've faced dictators. He can lead our foreign policy. He has a judgment and temperament to move forward.

With that as prelude, the two men sublimated their animus into an unpleasant argument over the Obama/Clinton rivaliry. Carville repeatedly lashed out at the New York Times for penning "The Low Road To Victory," saying at one point that Dan Balz "knows more about politics than everybody in The New York Times editorial board put together, that the paper didn't "know anything about politics", and that Jonathan Weisman was better than Gail Collins. Carville also, strangely, repeatedly declaimed that he was tired of seeing campaign surrogates on the television, and yet, there has was! Campaign surrogate! On the television!

Richardson criticized the Clinton's negative tone and her use of Osama bin Laden in a campaign ad, and then wildly veered direction, brought up the notion of dynasty, and accused the Clintons of wanting to "cling to the throne," which is what Clintons "cling to" when they're bitter I guess! "You know," Richardson explained, "We're America. We're not Monaco."

To which Monaco replied, "Jeez. Leave us out of it!"

The two men had to practically be cattle-prodded into a commercial break. When they returned, the yelling recommenced, this time over whether there should be a 11,257th debate added to the 11,256 that have already transpired. Then Richardson accused Clinton of wanting to change the rules. Perhaps Richardson had gotten an advanced look of the latter half of this Jon Stewart routine:

But Carville wasn't having any of it. That's when things got a little shouty:

[WATCH.]

RICHARDSON: They're changing the rules. They want to bring in Florida and Michigan all of a sudden and count them. They're basically saying that Senator Obama is -- can't win in November, when he is, obviously, the strongest general election candidate winning battleground states and his message with Independents. And now, all of a sudden, the presidency is slipping away and they'll do anything to keep it.

CARVILLE: You know, maybe the governor was vacation and not taking phone calls when myself and Governor Rendell and Governor Corzine offered to pay for a revote in Florida and Michigan. And, by the way, I would point out, of people actually voting, Senator Clinton leads the popular vote. People did go vote in Florida. They did go vote in Michigan. If you don't want to count the delegates after they voted. But we said...

RICHARDSON: That is false.

CARVILLE: Excuse me. Governor...

RICHARDSON: That is totally false.

CARVILLE: Governor, I don't...

RICHARDSON: How can you say, when they didn't participate, James?

CARVILLE: Governor, I...

RICHARDSON: How could you say that?

CARVILLE: Honestly, sir...

RICHARDSON: That is lunacy.

CARVILLE: I have not interrupted you.

RICHARDSON: That is lunacy.

CARVILLE: Sir, I have not interrupted you.

RICHARDSON: All right. Go ahead.

CARVILLE: I have not interrupted you.

KING: All right. One at a time. Go ahead.

CARVILLE: Right. So maybe he was on vacation not taking phone calls. We offered to pay for it -- to have a vote in Florida and Michigan. We got -- we've got nine percent of the Democrats in this country live in Florida and Michigan. They did go vote. Now you may not want to cost the delegates (ph), but please don't offer to me that Senator Obama won the popular -- is winning the popular vote, because he's not.

And things pretty much degenerated from there, with Carville continuing to yell at the New York Times, Richardson putting down debates, Florida, Michigan, vote-counting, McCain laughing at Democrats, Carville talking about how he has good friends in Puerto Rico, Richardson bragging about how he has faced down dictators, and somewhere on the CNN studio, a production assistant kept a taser and a tranquilizer gun at the ready, just in case.

Naturally, there was still time for one of those inimitable inquiries from Larry King:

KING: Governor Richardson, do you expect a lot of negativism in the next couple of weeks?

RICHARDSON: Well, I do.

The system works!

Richardson clearly shot the first shot acoss the bow with the royalty/entitlement comment which does not apply at all. Clearly this is personal wih Richardson so he lacks credibiliy and I would say he confirmed his status as a Judas; he didn't need James Carville to shore that one up any further.

Contrast if you will
Richardson - accomplishment, presentation, leadership experience and commitment to public welfare
Car ville - accomplishment, presentation, leadership experience and commitment to public welfare
Here is where the candidates and their spokesmen show us most clearly what their administrations might be like.

The Clintons are desperate to keep the press preoccupied and make the dead race seem alive while they give themselves more time for backroom deals. That's all this annoying distraction is about.

The more time goes on, the more Rovian the Clinton campaign becomes. The only way Clinton can spin the popular vote numbers is to assume Obama gets ZERO votes in Michigan. If you give Obama the uncommited votes in Michigan he is still ahead!

It is eternally frustrating how the Clintons constantly try to change the rules of the process. The process is about delegates, end of story. All the major Democratic candidates agreed that Florida and Michigan will be left out (knowingly aware of the consequences) of the process. Also, if there is a re-vote it should not be paid for by PRIVATE money, and the results counted by people paid with PRIVATE money, just one more step closer to Fascism.

Jon Stewart always so beautifully portrays Hilly's inconsistencies and hypocritical about faces. He's my media hero.

Vote for hillary! Get four more years of Carville. And bill. And George Stephanopolous. And Mark Penn. And Colombia. And NAFTA. And scandal. And war.

Maybe that's why she hasn't turned her big Pennsy win into a tide of superdelegates.

Carville is a madman. The faces he makes while listening to Richardson, or anyone he disagrees with, clearly display his bitterness and animosity.

Hey James, try yoga. Maybe get a prescription for some medical mary jane.

James Carville,
Spin it whatever way, how, direction you want. You've been plain out NASTY. You used to be able to spin it pretty well by injecting a bit of humor or by being somewhat restrained/thereby appearing to be even a slight little touch of demure-like phony. GAME'S OVER BUDDY! You were so nasty to Governor Richardson the other night on Larry King. I thought, perhaps, you'd take the opportunity to try to regain some common ground after the way you and the Clinton campaign used him and abused him. Oh, but not so. Because that has always been the MO of the Clinton camp. Is that why YOU"VE held their backs for so long James????? I used to respect you and enjoy listening to your slant on things. Your slant is now slime and you're lowering yourself to turn your back on Governor Richardson - a man that you know is a true visionary. Ah......and therein lies the truth perhaps? You're still held captive and he's always felt free to speak his truth because he is a man of INTEGRITY !

how can Richardson and Obama's supporters be for Democrats votes in Michigan and Florida not be counted (one way or another)? are they crazy or just on something? We need these 2 states to win the White House and for Democrats to say that these people's vote should not count sounds Republican to me. What is wrong with you people? get a grip!!!

I guess you didn't get the memo....that Michigan and Florida violated an agreement by moving up their primary...they sung their own ship......sorry, but you don't get to violate the rules and then expect to have the rules changed in your favor...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:20 AM on 04/25/2008

You care no more about those disenfranchised voters than Hillary did when she signed the agreement and uderastanding that these voters would be disenfranchised.

What you care about is winning this nomination at any cost, changing the rules, rewriting history...forget the facts. Just as long as Hillary wins.

I am one of those disenfranchised voters, we know what happened. Don't worry we will be going to the polls in November.

@kiga:

The issue is the counting of votes in the primary. Folk in FL are free to vote in the general.

The moving of the Florida primary to Jan. 29th is what caused the primary votes to not be counted. This entire issue was caused by a Dem representative who introduced an amendment to move the date on a bill to put a hotly contested Real Estate Tax question on the ballot.

The irony of this is; with the exception of ONE Dem, all the other Dems in the House of Representatives of FL voted to move the date when they knew the consequences of their action.

Because they weren't fair elections. It's important to understand democracy as we attempt to practice it. Remember, elections need to be free and fair. Don't just listen to the candidates involved or those with vested interests.

America, please watch out for Richardson. Nearly 40 people in the Clinton circle have died mysteriously or come up missing, especially those who didn't cow down or go with the Clinton program. Carville was threatening him some kind of way that's why Richardson looked so nervous.

Be safe Mr. Richardson.

It is quite unfortunate to see the Clinton campaign operate these last few months. After 8 years of absurd republican governance, where the American people are clearly neglected and not informed or respected enough to be told straight answers from the government. Additionally, the wishes of the people are thrown by the wayside, only to be considered when it is in line with the administrations agenda (which is not often). Blaming these kind of malevolent actions on the intrinsic nature of the republicans, which has grown into a power-hungry, do anything to win the next election party that disregards the nature of their purpose, which is to serve idealisms of a group, but ultimately bend to the will of the American people as a whole.
In short Hillary represents more of the same. In complete truth she would do some good for the country. She has sound policies and theory, mostly. Her execution is troubling. She has taken on this republican nature. It is quite evident she would do anything to be elected. This is a dangerous precedent. We must have one party of reason.

I hope that when this nominating process is over, and all the wounds have been licked clean, all the passionate democrats, and there are many, will realize exactly who the real enemy is. It is not Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. It is not Bill Richardson, or James Carville, or any of the other surrogates from either camp. It is John McCain, and the Republican party. I have been thoroughly disgusted with the way Hillary Clinton has been conducting herself during this campaign. I have said several times that I am going to have a hard time voting for her if she wins the democratic nomination. I live in California, so it would be mostly symbolic, as my state will be solidly blue come November. But I will say this; if there is even a hint of a chance that McCain can win my state, I will do what every good democrat should do. I will hold my nose and go into that booth and cast my vote for Hillary Clinton. Because what is at stake is far too important to hand the reins of the country to another Republican for another four years. I really hope people realize that in the end. Think about it. Another conservative Supreme Court Justice, making Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, continuing a foreign policy that is making us less safe, and so on. Are we willing to risk all that just because our guy (or girl) doesn't get first prize?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:48 PM on 04/24/2008

The ONLY way Clinton can win the nomination is by destroying the Democratic party. So there would be no reason for Obama supporters to ever vote for her. If she is allowed to destroy the party, Obama will run as a 3rd party candidate and he WILL beat both McCain And Clinton. It's that simple. He has both the support and the money. And perhaps it's time for that to happen. The Democratic party has become nearly as corrupt as the Republican party. There are MANY unhappy with both parties. That is another reason Obama is so popular. I know MANY "Republicans" that are already supporting Obama. If he was no longer affiliated with the Democratic party, there would be many more willing to join a party that is more focused on supporting the PEOPLE, than corporate interests. Read Hostile Takeover by David Sirota and you'll see that it is members of BOTH parties that have been selling out the people of this country. So no matter which way the Dem nomination goes, Obama will be our next president.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:10 AM on 04/25/2008

Con't.... He'll either change the Democratic party back to a "people's party" or create a new party of those that are more interested in supporting the American people than $$$$ from Big Business. And read the book before you discount this notion. That is why Obama has raised the "grass roots" money that he has. People want America back in the hands of Americans - and they are tired of being played by those in both parties that are merely talking the talk while they continue to sell us out time and again. And Clintons have been selling us out with NAFTA and a LOT of other policies for a long time. So it's far more than a Democratic/Republican fight going on. It's The People vrs Big Business. And this is the year The People have seen through the smoke and mirrors to the heart of the issues. And that's why Obama has the support that he does.

I like both of these men. They are good dems, the problem is that Hillary's camp is desperate, and are truly in a panic. The writing is on the wall. When all of the bonafide delegates are counted, Barak Obama will be the democratic nominee.

And he will go on to lead the Democratic party to victory - a shilacking of the repug party.
