As soon as the Eliot Spitzer scandal became public, book agents and writers were speculating over how much the stories would be worth. While much attention swirled around the notorious "Kristen," the hooker at the center of the scandal, others suggested that the spurned wife Silda's tell-all would be the real money-maker.

Now, it appears a Fortune writer is about to test how lucrative Eliot Spitzer's tell-all will be. The New York Daily News' Sherryl Connelly reports that a book about the Spitzer scandal is being shopped around with a starting price of $350,000:

A book is being shopped around about disgraced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer and - like his call girl - it's high-priced.

The starting bid for the proposal by Peter Elkind, Fortune mag writer and co-author of a book about Enron, was $350,000. His agent, Liz Darhansoff of Darhansoff, Verrill & Feldman, refused to confirm the figure, though she said she expected to have the deal wrapped up by Friday.

"It seems like a lot of money to me, but the book will get a lot of ink, if not sales," says Sara Nelson, editor of Publishers Weekly, which broke the news.

Who cares that he is a whoremonger? Rhetorical question obviously a lot of you do. Why is completely beyond me. It doesn't effect his ability to govern as far as I can tell. It seems to me it should be an issue between him and his family. Spitzer was one of the very few people who successfully prosecuted corporate criminals. Its too bad that Americans are so hung up on sex that this ruined his career.

Who in the world would pay $30 for a book about this? It is such a common story..infidelity is a ho-hum story now. Why would he be special? With all that is happening in the world..or even the US, can't we spend our time reading something worthwhile? I'm not interested in his story, his wife's story, or the prostitute's story.
