John McCain has repeatedly argued that his wife's financial holdings are separate from his political life, and should remains so for the privacy of her and her children. However, as Slate pointed out this weekend, McCain has no problems keeping nearly everything the couple does own in her name:

Aside from a Wachovia checking account, in which he keeps between $15,000 and $50,000 (wouldn't some of that money earn more interest in a certificate of deposit?), all of the couple's assets are in Cindy's name. John McCain's tax return is so anemic, so marginal to the couple's actual financial situation, that he doesn't even take a deduction for interest on his home mortgage. Presumably Cindy does, since disclosure forms indicate that she has several mortgages.

Presumably, of course, because we can't know for sure. Because John McCain refuses to disclose the information.

Who said charity begins at home? WJC gives to the WJC Library and gets a tax deduction. If you think it's incestuous, write your congressperson, not that you will receive a response other than the canned one. We do have the best government money can buy, you know.

John Kerry's wife never turned over her tax return on the Heinz wealth. John Kerry is the richest person in Congress, which isn't easy with Jay Rockefellow and Ted Kennedy. Oh yes, they all endorse Obama. Hum...

Why are members of the top 500 wealthiest persons in America Democrats, and liberal Democrats at that, and why are they supporting Obama????

I thought the wealthiest of the wealthy were all Republicans. Fooled again.

Remember trickle down economics? With these rich white people in power, what gets trickled down? If McCain makes financial contributions to his family business and then to facial deformities, who benefits from his contributions? Self. Self. Is it any wonder that you have to be rich to be in power. Is it any wonder who is being helped with people with total self interest at the helm. This conditions makes many want to yell, "God damn America. No trickle down in this senario.

Question: "What gets trickled down?"
Answer: "Shit."

In the senate, a senator gets to write the rules. A self interested one would write the rules to benefit self. Let's try to guess which rules Mc Cain wrote and where all the loopholes are.

No homes interest deductions no investment income disclosure on his income tax return. But that doesnt keep him from taking a $96,000 deduction for charitable contributions (this accounts for 80 percent of his itemized deductions on his 2006 schedule A). And where did those charitable contributions go?
They went to the John and Cindy McCain Foundation. Coincidentally that same year the McCain Foundation donated about $93,000 to the Xavier Preparatory school, the Brophy College Preparatory school and Christ Lutheran School (three private schools in Phoeniz Az.

What do these three schools have in common?
Why they are all schools that McCains Children attend or have attended. If you look at the tax returns for the McCain Foundation for the last 6 years you will find that the Foundation has donated more that $500,000 to these schools. So the good Senator is taking a tax writeoff (one that saved him over $20,000 in income tax alone in 2006) to support elite preparatory schools that his children attend.
This is all quite legal under IRS regulations. But it speaks volumes about the priorities that the McCain's have when it comes to charitable donations.

Why should Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama have to disclose then? You right wingers would be all over them if they didn't.

McSame is one shady character isn't he?

Yeah, maybe we can 'marry' China and live off their wealth. Of course, they'll insist we put everything in their name.

He obviously is making hay with her money by using her airplane free. Should this not open her assets to public view? This money is supporting his presidential campaign, we should know where it comes from.

Hopefully Obama will hammer him repeatedly on this point as the GOP did Kerry in 04. But then again, there are so many other things to hammer him on will this ever float to the top?

Wow. I never realized how poor I am. According to this store, McCrazy is "decidedly middle-class" with his paltry earnings of almost a quarter of a million dollars per year! That's only four times what my wife and I make, with two bachelors and one masters degree between us and twenty years each in the work force! We've figured it out - we're never going to retire! I'm glad Ol' John has a rich honey or he'd probably be wanting to bunk on our sofa, poor guy.

"He also donated more than $100,000 last year to charitable organizations. Much of the contributions went to a family foundation, which in turn donated to an organization that helps victims of facial deformities."

Seems like last week or so, the Clintons were trashed for doing the same thing with a family foundation charity.... can you say "double standard" boys and girls???
