Medicare is lurching toward disaster and it is too late for the Bush Administration and Congress to do anything about it, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt said on Tuesday.

He said the next administration will have to act to stop rising costs and get control of the $400 billion federal health insurance plan for the elderly, which now covers 44 million people.

Greed and fraud is what has wreck this program and this administration and congress have let K=Street ruin it . This has been the biggest cash cow for the medical & :Pharmaceutical firms and will get no better until we get control of the fraud in the program.

This is a first rate documentary about health care in other capitalist countries. Countries where timely, high quality, comprehensive health for every citizen cost less than half of what we pay in America for 80% of our population.

Don't confuse me with the facts. The Medical & :Pharmaceutical firms have already made up my mind for me.

Its only this bad because they have worked hard to make it this bad. Rethuglicans have wanted to move that money into the open market for years, just like SSI. They want to be able to freely and quickly rip off as much of that as they can. And, over the years Congress has borrowed against SSI , but never paid back any of the IOU's they left in place of the cash that was there. SSI and Medicare would be very strong today if they would just pay back what they borrowed and stole from it. No it is us who get punished for their greed. Just as it always will be.

Tell insurance parasites to take a hike.

Tell me, what value do they add to health "care"? Just an f'in middleman, taking from both sides.

Leavitt is a parasite. He wants us to accept the idea that Bush would have, but couldn't fix it, so it has to be left for the next administration. It's a really silly attempt to wash his hands as he departs. If you're looking for an economic stimulus for our country, I can't think of a better one than to simply declare a single payer healthcare system, and tell the insurance idiots to not let the door hit them in the you-know-where when they leave.

This story is about eight years too late. Anybody who's needed coverage drifted into the afterlife.

Brilliant. As Leavitt (ironic name) is walking out the door - "Oh by the way, you next administration people are f***ed! Better get to work."

I know how to reduce costs. Move to a single-payer system like the rest of the industrialized world.
Canada manages to have a balanced budget and universal health-care because they have contained the costs of health-care through a single-payer system.

And Canada doesn't pay trillions to defense contractors and other government apparatchiks that coat our nation like cockroaches.
