Daytime Emmy Nominees: "The View," Ellen, Rachael Ray Up For Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ "The View," "Rachael Ray" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" were among the Daytime Emmy Award nominees announced Wednesday.

The programs will compete for best talk show, while the new category of best informative talk show pits nominees "Dr. Phil," "The Tyra Banks Show" and "A Place of Our Own" against each other.

Nominations for best daytime serial went to "General Hospital," "Guiding Light," "One Life to Live" and "The Young and the Restless."

Winners will be announced June 20 in Los Angeles.

"The View" hosts Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd are among the nominees for best talk show host _ and get another a chance to break their 10-time losing streak in the category.

The series itself has been honored, although DeGeneres' show has dominated the best talk show category in recent years.

Oh how cute! They "thinned" out Rachel Ray.... who by the way, deserves NO award for her talk show and is a fine example of the dumbed down society and what entertainment it enjoys.

She has no syle, no class... and is NOT a chef. She cooks.... so does my mom.... who probably deserves the award more than rachel.

I agree. I don't understand how Rachel Ray got on the Food Network in the first place. She has absolutely nothing going for her. I especially hate how her phrases have become part of the American lexicon: EVOO, Delish, Yummo, Sammies, just to name a few. And to think now she is being nominated for an Emmy Award. It says alot about the high standards of Americans these days. Her food always looks like unedible crap. As long as people get their advice and info from Dr. Phil, The View and Ray, we are all pretty much doomed.

I love the linking photo of Ms. Ray (and fellow nominees). If her mouth could open any further she should stuff a whole stuffed artichoke into her gaping maw and swallow it whole.

What a joke in the talk show categories. The View? Please. What crap. The only reason that show made the list, particularly this horrid season, is because the pool of eligible shows is so tiny (especially now that they've split the category between "informative" and "entertainment") that it's the only fossil left to keep the category from being a sad chick fight between Ellen D. and Rachel Ray. Oprah pulled herself out of the running years ago, so there is literally no one else (except maybe Regis and Kelly). Ditto the "Host" category. Why bother with the charade? Just award the thing to Ellen and call it a day.

At least this finally strips The View of any possible attempts to hold itself out as "informative". Of course, I would also quibble with any claim that it qualifies as "entertainment" anymore either, but that's a post for another time . . . .
