Bush Says Economy Is Going To 'Come On'

President Bush, buoyed by a batch of economic news that wasn't as bad as expected, predicted Friday that consumers are on their way to better days.

"I know it's tough times, and I know you're having to pay more at the fuel pump than you want," Bush said. "But this economy is going to come on. I'm confident it will."

Folks who want $25 an hour to put wheels on cars aren't going to have their jobs very long. It's not surprising when there is a world full of people perfectly able and willing to do the same job for $5 an hour.

So what is your point? All manufacturing should go overseas or people should be willing to accept $3 an hour and thus have no money to spend on consumer products and the economy tanks. Have you thought through any of your most basic premises?

What an outfit! I thought he had (another) head injury or was out playing war because its so "romantic".

Like how he talks down to us:

"...YOU're having to pay more at the fuel pump than YOU want".

Haven't most presidents at least tried to give the impression that they are one of us by using "WE" instead of "YOU"?

What a despicable moron.

For over eight years, now, I've sat back and thought to myself everytime I've seen a picture of Chimpy McFlightsuit, "is it possible for this guy to present to the world that he's anything above an utter moron?" Now, given this picture of him in sweat band, pedophile shorts and sun goggles, I've answered my own question: "No, he's not." I recognize that I deserve all the criticism coming for even pondering this rhetorical question and what's more, I accept it. I am very sorry.

Although not a "Declared War", we are definately at War, with a War Economy. With the massive deficit spending, the economy should be BOOMING - especially with a lap dog Federal Reserve lowering rates in the teeth of Inflation.
Give a terminal cancer patient enough morphine - and they will "feel better" for a while, but it only makes the end nearer! I suspect that is what will come this Summer & Fall, as soon as the Republicans lose power, the Fed & other powerfull financial institutions that have been propping up our facade of an Economy will pull the plug on the morphine. Then all but the very richest will feel the effects of outsourcing & deregulation. One can already see what will happen - although the new Democratic majority in Congress has not been able to set an agenda, and has been thwarted by the actions of the Republican minority -in concert with Bush's veto, we're already hearing - "none of this happened before the Dems took over Congress"!

Someone please tell me what George W Bush did to ruin the economy?? Seriously, In some detail please somebody tell what "HE" did to cause any of what is going on.
I don't like Bush but let's keep an open mind. The economy's issues are not at all solely his fault. No president has that kind of power over the U.S economy. George Bush could find a cure for cancer...save 25 babies from a fire in a burning orphanage....get Isreal and Palestine to live happily ever after..and people out there will still find a way to bash him. That is the absolute truth. The guy has made some screw ups but he isn't the cause for all that is wrong in the world. What has he done that congress hasn't let him do?? ..and still letting him do.

somebody should tell him, too.

Toby25, WTF, are you living under a rock for the past 8 years? Have you not heard about the war in Iraq? Did you know that the thick-head that is Bush authorized and waged this sham of a war? Do you know that wars cost money? Do you know that taxpayers are paying for this war? Do you know that war has a global effect on the economy? Do you drive or own a car? Have you noticed that gasoline is just about $4.00 a gallon? Get a clue! I just gave you several.

I think you are in a differenct planet. I was in Europe few times and they told me that the dollar will become cheaper and cheaper because of the war in Iraq and the deficit and that is the cause of the problem we are having now. The value of the dollar abroad is 50 cents and may be less after convertion fees are applied. Crued oil price was $28.00 before Mr. Bush took over and know reached to $117.00 and that is because of the cheap dollar and when gas is expensive everything becomes expensive. Mr Bush did not think about the middle east problems for more than 7 years and now he is trying to do something. He must know that the Palastinian/Israel problem cannot be solved unless Israel goes back to the 1967 boards. Period.

Have you been living under a rock for the past five years?
How about a trillion dollar war that has broken our army and our national bank account.
I'm surprised that there are still people out there who listen to that buffoon Bush. Nothing he has said for the past eight years has been coherent or meaningful. And when he speaks in public on the world stage on behalf of this country I am totally embarassed.
I wish someone would put a muzzle on him and lock him behind closed doors (preferably cell doors) for the rest of his term.

Actually to be correct we are talking a 3 trillion dollar war. As outlined by JOSEPH STIGLITZ

"Joseph Stiglitz was the winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Economics, professor at Columbia University and the former chief economist at the World Bank.

Please Read:

how did you come up with that price tag, $3 trillion?

JOSEPH STIGLITZ: Well, the way you approach this problem is basically adding. You begin with the budgetary numbers. But what they claim as the cost of the Iraq war in the budget is not the full cost. There are the operational costs that everybody understands, but then there are costs hidden elsewhere in the defense budget. But then there are really some very big costs hidden elsewhere, like contractors that have been the subject of such concern. We pay their insurance through the Labor Department.

But the most important cost, budgetary cost, that we haven"t talked about publicly, that haven"t been talked about, are the costs of veterans"their disability, veterans" healthcare"that will total hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decades. This war has had a huge number of injuries, and that will mount, the cost of caring for them, disability. 39 percent of the people fighting, the 1.6 million who have already fought, and if we continue, it will of course be more than that, are estimated will be"wind up with some form of disability.

You are absolutely right. The Republicans in Congress have facilitated all of this. Any measures the Dems have tried to implement have been blocked or vetoed.

We need to get rid of the Repubilcans.

He (and you) can't have it both ways. Either he is "the decider" or he isn't. While few think he is actaully entitled to all the power he wields, he nonetheless dos so. With such power comes responsibility (so said Aunt Em).

When people say "Bush" did this or that, please understand the shorthand. No one is saying he did anything completely by himself. C'mon, you already know this. Don't use literalistic obfuscation to hide mock open mindedness.

Very well said. You have captured the essence of it all perfectly. The man is truly the greatest calamity to ever befall this nation. How could this disaster have ever happened? What was it, something like 17,000,000 people were in the streets worldwide pleading with us and warning our country of disaster as we went headlong to war. The NeoCons have the exact same toxic brain chemistry as religious fundamentalists. Disaster. Disaster. Disaster.

Here at home - any person here that has ever served in the U.S. military knew that Katrina required a minute by minute military response to something of that magnitude. Yet the President of the United States was was lost in space. Completely clueless surrounded by a staff of people completely clueless.

I know people from ages 22 to 70 whose families have been here for 150-200 years that are going to leave the United States FOREVER for other countries if this country does not get on the right track with the next election. It has really come down to this now for many. We are now a nation of total complete idiots who have forsaken our birthright as a free people to fight back against the ruthless Corporatist ideology that has now completely destroyed our once great nation.

The man is a complete disgrace and will be reviled for centuries.

I have heard it said that if we really love this country, no matter how bad it gets, it is our duty to stay and fight for it. But after realizing the true nature of the millions who have sat by and fiddle while we burn, and knowing it is not in their nature to fight for anything, I am pretty well looking for the suitcases. . .

Oh yeah, the economy is on a comeback - in about 10 years - if America is lucky and after there's been a chance to clean up all the pathetic goofs you've made - Mr. GWB.
You have become a "President" in name only. Soon that will end. And you will be put out to pasture. No self-respecting American will ever, ever go to your your library - even in protest.
You will live in infamy. Forever.

Gee, thanks Mr. Prez-i-dunce for the encouraging words. As if your words mean a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g to a-n-y-o-n-e. They don't. They are as vacuous as the empty space between your ears. Your preziduncy has been a scourge to real Americans -- those of us who value truth, fairness, freedom, and democracy.

You, Mr. Bush, are a loser of the worst kind. And the sad truth is that America has been on the losing end because of it. Your enablers have enabled you to disable all that was good, decent, and fair about America. In point of fact, Mr. Prezidunce, you suck!

Dow tops 13,000. Unemployment report much better than expected. NY Times runs front page story about optimism returning to Wall Street. Largest labor force in U.S. history. Credit Crunch easing. Historically low unemployment. Dollar getting stronger.

Thank you, President Bush for once again not giving into the doomsday predictions and staying strong. Looks like you were right not to use the "R" word.

I'm sure the unemployment report is good news for the 20,000 who got laid off durint this period. Wow! That's swell news for them. And tell us about our increasing debt, something over a trillion dollars for the war alone. Now tell me all about all the benefits of that little excursion.
Credit crunch easing??? What a joke. This morning's local paper had a whole section devoted to property auctions, something I've never seen before and I go all the way back to the Great Depression. There were twelve pages of properties listed, at least 50 per page. I'm sure all those ex property owners are reveling in their good fortune.
These aren't "doomsday predictions". These are the result of an economy going broke.

Prices should come down (except for oil, gas, food & anything imported - weak dollar you know) but there are bright sides. I hear that a new brothel is opening outside of Reno that follows the "new Corporate business model". Prices are slashed to pre-WW-2 levels - and they take all major CC's
Of course - it's completely self-serve----!

Hang in there Larry, every spinner has his day.
The Dow will climb all by its self as long as the value of the dollar declines on international markets. Ask your self this: is the Dow going up faster than the dollar is going down. Don't bother replying to me with trollisms.

Unemployment is a measure of people collecting on it. After a year or so of job declines, the people being dropped off the count because their time has run out starts to reduce the the total without needing to create any jobs. There are other job indicators if you are serious, and not too busy "running multiple blogs."

The NYT constantly runs that. I have watched them say that for the last five decades. Try checking out The Economist or other more objective journal.

Exactly where did you get the info that the "credit crunch is easing"?

Unemployment is not "historically low" and is unlikely to ever be again.

The dollar has been in steady decline for a few years. During that time, it has of course, blipped up occasionally. And it will again. If you seriously believe it is getting stronger, take all your personal savings and sell gold short. Of course, if all the experts you ignore are right, you will be up a creek...

I figure you've gotta be getting paid to keep up all this nonsense on your "multiple blogs." Actually, that probably pays well. You are getting paid, right? Bozo did.

What's good for Wall Street isn't necessarily good for Main Street. The dollar is so low that it has know where to go but up. Off course the credit crunch is easing when you just had the Feds bail out Wall Street i.e Bear Stearns, etc. Wal-Mart and Target are always looking for baggers and checkers at $8.00 an hour.
Lord knows $3.69 a gallon gas and $1.79 for head of lettuce isn't really affecting the pocket book of some pig banker on Wall Street is it Larry?

BTW any relation to Montgomery Burns? Sound like everything is "excellent" to you. Jerk
