Fox News: The "Ins And Outs" Of Shaving Your Pubes

Fair and balanced? Fox News' "sexpert" Yvonne K. Fulbright has a new column up today describing the "ins and outs" of shaving your pubes. Here's a sample:

Are you bare there? With summer just around the corner, you may now be thinking about joining the ranks of the totally shaven.

It's no longer simply a style concern for porn stars; it seems that everyone now - guy or gal - is giving at least some thought to pubic hair care. I certainly get enough e-mails from male readers about going hairless. They want to know: What's the deal? How is it that nether region hair maintenance has evolved into an art form? Should I do it, too?

Hair removal in contemporary Western cultures is actually not a modern day phenomenon. Such practices have been prevalent in cultures worldwide, like Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Uganda, and the Tobriand Islands.

Just a hint of hair or going totally bare has throughout history been equated with the highest of beauty and femininity. Women in the Middle Ages, as seen in Botticelli's late 15th century painting "The Birth of Venus," were known to have kept their wares entirely shaven.

Read the full column here. Of course, this column should hardly come as a surprise. Even as Bill O'Reilly bemoans that "the moral and ethical climate in America is declining," and that the "Internet and an irresponsible media have hit traditional values hard," Fox News has become a premiere purveyor of sexualized news. Or as BraveNewFilms described it, FoxNewsPorn:

Shaving the pibic area is nothing new, western, or a sign of pedophila. The Crusaders brought back the practice of shaving the pubic are during the 10th century I think. As for shaving, why not use a lighter? No razor bumps.

Anytime a guy tells me he likes the shaved, waxed bald look I ask him if he likes little girls.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:43 PM on 05/05/2008

I wish the worst kind of pox
On that vile news outlet, Fox.
They should really beware,
When they discuss pubic hair.
They've opened up Pandora's Box.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:31 AM on 05/05/2008

Is nothing too private to discuss on fox?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:51 PM on 05/04/2008

Fox: experts on how to make assholes look good.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:14 AM on 05/04/2008

A lad from lower New Haven
Was inclined to be terribly craven
Of ladies, though cute,
With regions hirsute.
So he sought out only the shaven.

Should you call yourself Bushpetshisgoatee?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:17 AM on 05/04/2008

Not necessarily, but with Jeff Gannon always hanging around Bush does need Laura as his beard.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:27 AM on 05/04/2008

Ask a former soldier who was stationed and fought in Vietnam about crotch rot. This is not because of porn and isn't as "new" as some would like to think by relating it to porn.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:16 AM on 05/04/2008

i also think that the current fascination with hairlessness, both female and male (wtf?) is strictly related to the mainstreaming of porn.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:15 AM on 05/04/2008

i agree with the comments about how vapid and sexualized fox news is. I do think this topic is interesting and could be enlightening. however, the whole setup is meant to titillate. I also have serious problems with her analysis and think it is very ahistoric to presume anything by looking solely at art to determine how things used to be or have always been. art is stylized and often interested in form, not in merely replicating in exacting detail what is "real"--this was even true in pre-photographic times when one may suggest that there was a need for strict realistic reproduction. if one would follow your undisciplined way of looking at things, one could also infer that there was an epidemic of beautiful amputees in antiguity as many great roman and greek statuary are armless and headless.

also there is also as much an issue of class within the topic, as culture. for example, would the "professionals" --courtesans, prostitutes, etc--and/or privileged do something different than the average woman. would the wealthy, who had time and money to beautify and were expected to be much more ornamental (in the sense that it was the chinese women of a certain status, for example, who had their feet bound), participate in much more elaborate grooming than a less well-off woman .

It's nice to see that even a venue as vapid and vile as Fox can occasionally offer up something of value to the nation. As they say, even a broken clock is correct twice a day....

If guys want to drastically improve their appearance, get rid of that shaggy caterpillar extending across your forehead and get into a hair salon and get your EYEBROWS waxed. You know, eyebrowS, emphasis on the plural. Really, a lot of men have that dumbed down, Neanderthal shag look, with a single, continuous eyebrow 1/2 an inch high and meandering across their face. You know those insurance commercials featuring the cavemen bemoaning that everyone assumes they're stupid?
They have that single eyebrow thingie going for them too.

You would shape and trim a beard or mustache - unless you're a hermit. So take a critical look at the hair between your eyes and your forehead. And while we're on the subject of male body hair, don't forget to trim your nosehair - really gross to look at. Some guys even have hair growing on their ear lobes.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:07 AM on 05/04/2008

you are correct. NO ONE looks good with a unibrow.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:24 AM on 05/04/2008

you don't know frida.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:04 AM on 05/04/2008

That's seems to be an obsession with certain people, but I contact a whole lot of people and I can't thnk of one in hundreds who has what you described. Nose hair is another thing, but who the hell cares. I'd settle for some honesty and at lesat a hint of morality. I do see a lot of dishonest and cruel people, eager to destroy someone to distract from their own failure. Americans need more time looking at themselves, for a change and not worrying about being critics of how their neighbor lives. In other words, mind their own damn business.

Man, if only O'Reilly had asked Hillary which way she goes.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:36 PM on 05/03/2008

What's that old saying? Oh yeah. . . "Bald is beautiful."

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:48 PM on 05/03/2008

Has anyone considered the possibility that a new sociological crisis may be on the horizon?

Bald Pubic Areas?

No hair growth whatsoever where it counts?

And which one of the Presidential candidates is going to tackle this emerging crisis?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:38 PM on 05/03/2008

And I'll take ding-dong, pussy, cooter, boner, ass, and titties, and the like any day, I say ANY DAY over the unAmerican, and obscenely pretentious "Naughty Bits."

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:12 PM on 05/03/2008

A feature on trimming pubic hair and an interview with Hillary Clinton. It's all in a week's work at Fox News.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:09 PM on 05/03/2008

both equally important

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:04 AM on 05/04/2008

ADVICE TO MEN: trim, ok, maybe sometimes. But NEVER EVER EVER SHAVE your bush.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:00 PM on 05/03/2008

Hey guys, don't get too wigged out about this pubs thing. When you get older, pubs thin, grey and mostly fall out anyhow!

Grandmas and Grandpas still get it on very well but with not nearly as much decoration or shaving/waxing, depending on your preference. Everything drops a little too! Enjoy every year as it comes. All years are great if you've got your health and a good partner for conversation, intellectual stimulation, companionship, fun, exercise and sex if interested, at any age! Don't gag, you'll be there sooner than you know and remember what I said!!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:43 PM on 05/03/2008

Since I was a boy, I always associated hair with maturity and awakening. Hairless meant "too young"- definitely not there yet. Jailbait. Maybe the guys on To Catch a Predator would disagree... Hygiene is definitely important, but I personally don't care for the bald look, particularly one with a 5 o'clock shadow (it's Brillo time!). Or one that reminds me of diaper rash.

For men, I find it totally bizarre and probably narcissistic- think ya look bigger without the bush?

This is another of those odd sociological phenomena, that, along with tattooing and carrying tiny dogs I find utterly incomprehensible.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:17 PM on 05/03/2008

that's because you've never tattooed a tiny dog.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:06 AM on 05/04/2008

It's not a matter of size, but rather of cleanliness. And no one likes to end up with hair in their mouths.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:52 PM on 05/03/2008

Stop it! You're killing me!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:41 PM on 05/03/2008

LOLOLOL!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:14 PM on 05/03/2008

This just about more information than I need to know at my age all the girls might as well shave most of public hair gone.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:53 PM on 05/03/2008

So much for family values. No wonder the GOP is the party of sex in public bathrooms.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 08:17 PM on 05/03/2008

How naughty! Well, I'll bet she's achieved her goal of shocking the crap out of Mommy and Daddy. What a silly twerp. Any woman who has had to have her pubic area shaved knows the ensuing agony when the hair starts to grow back.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:55 PM on 05/03/2008

One can only hope that the Stepford Wives who watch Fox News may finally be liberated via their pubic hairs, and from there we may hope they can inch their way to enlightenment.

I say we as progressives fully embrace the shaved movement. I can't wait to see the new Apple ads featuring the pioneers of shavery, just like those iconic images of MLK, Gandhi, Amelia Earhart, et al.

Who will pose the question to Hillary?

Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch whose media empire has long specialized in "T&A." Take a look at another of his media properties in its coverage of the Elliot Spitzer affair:

Never let it be said Murdoch let the news get in the way of soft porn.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:57 PM on 05/03/2008

I am firmly pro-shaven. I think that about says it all. I'm not Frank Black or Clack Francis, however, I do endorse this message.
thank you

I first fell in love with the clean shaven look back in 1979 when I saw a porn star who also did strip shows, Rene Bond. She was the first woman I saw totally shaved and I was in love and from that point on that was all I would have. The women love the look and how it works when you do your stuff. Then about ten years ago it started to catch on everywhere. And apparently ALL females do it now as well.

But I'll never forget that first glimpse and how I said YEAH BABY and from there on, got them all to shave even when no one else did.

Sometimes I just felt A "head" of the times (heh heh heh, sometimes I crack myself up)
