Until now, Shirley Morgan had always been the kind of voter the Republican Party thought it could count on. She comes from a family of staunch Republicans, has a son in the military and has supported Republican presidential candidates ever since she cast her first ballot, for Richard M. Nixon in 1972.

But this year Mrs. Morgan exemplifies a different breed: the Republican crossing over to vote in the Democratic primary. Not only will she mark her ballot for Senator Barack Obama in the May 6 primary here, but she has also been canvassing for him in the heavily Republican suburbs of Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis -- the first time she has ever actively campaigned for a candidate.

There goes Hillary's broader, deeper base. Happened in Texas, Ohio, PA and probably will in Indiana. Too bad they won't be around to vote for you in November. My questions is without the repubs voting for you, what is you true popular vote total?

A great many Republicans are very upset that McCain is the apparent nominee. Many of these voters would prefer to go for Hillary in the general election ("the devil you know") while none of them would vote for Barak (the devil you don't know"). So their votes may decide the presidency, but not in ways you indicate above.

On CNN"s Ballot Bowl on Saturday in a speech in Gastonia, N.C., I am quite sure I heard Hillary say that "you can say anything whether it is factorial or not in a campaign." Can anybody confirmed this?

Indiana voters take note.

The Sunday Times May 4, 2008 Sarah Baxter

" An unrepentant view from inside the neocon bunker"

They may have been chastened over Iraq but the hawks are hoping for a resurgence if John McCain becomes president

On a quiet, blossom-filled street on the outskirts of Washington an extraordinary gathering took place recently in the house of Richard Perle, the former Pentagon adviser and Iraq hawk.

Had news of the meeting leaked a few years ago it would have been taken as evidence that a nefarious plot was being hatched by a sinister cabal of all-powerful ideologues and policy makers known as neoconservatives. For here they were, being served coffee and pastries " no alcohol " although it was evening: not just Perle, the host, but also Paul Wolfowitz, the former deputy defence secretary, officials from the Pentagon and Vice-President Dick Cheney"s office, and a smattering of neocon scribes and thinkers....

How to See This Mission Accomplished

For the fifth anniversary of President Bush"s declaration of the end of "major combat operations" in Iraq, the Op-Ed page asked nine experts on military affairs to identify a significant challenge facing the American and Iraqi leadership today and to propose one specific step to help overcome that challenge.

I'm not sure about crossover Republican voters, but the conservative talk show hosts, pundits and commentaators sure want Hillary to win the primary. If Hillary and McCain are the nominees, irrespective of who wins the presidency, the Bush-Clinton era of division, warmongering and corporate profiteering continues..

Maureen Dowd is too funny in her NYTimes column today. It seems Hillary newest persona is being a MAN. What a hoot. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/opinion/04dowd.html?th&emc=th

Dowd notes, and it is very sad, that Clinton is not only chaning her personality, but forcing Obama to do te same. He has been swift boated as an elist out of touch with the working class. In the best tradition of Karl Rove, Hillary has painted the minority candidate, who worked on the streets of Chicago helping the poor, as elitist, and in contrast to Hillary -- also Ivy Leauge educatied, with $110 million forturne, who has lived in mansions with chafaurers and chefs for three decades - AT PUBLIC EXPENSE.

Hillary cannot win as herself: Mrs.Bill Clinton, the political wife who enabled her husbands serial infidelity, lied to keep him in office, and now wants her rewards --- again at the nation's expense.

Hoosiers, we're counting on you to help elect a new president. Your decision is critical.

If you've concluded, as I have, that our likely nominee, Senator Barack Obama, is worthy of your vote in the fall, I urge you to consider voting for him May 6. I think it is a wise move for everyone who hopes for a Democratic victory in the fall.

Even if Obama is not your first choice now, your vote in his column of the popular vote would be a gesture of hope for a Democratic victory in November. Doing so will help unite the Democratic Party and give us our best chance for a win in the general election.

As a California voter in June of 1992, I cast my vote not for Jerry Brown, my governor and favorite candidate, but instead for an inexperienced, charismatic governor of a small state, Bill Clinton. It was clear that he would be the nominee, and I wanted to add my little boost to strengthen him going into the convention and the fall election.

All the best.

I'd like to know IF it's true, which way the Republican cross-overs are voting. I can't help but feel (sadly) that it will be Clinton, BECAUSE they don't want Obama to win (as the msm doesn't want as well). Remember Limbaugh encouraging Rethugs to vote for Hillary. It's hard to belive they can be controlled like that. Well, maybe not. They did vote the worst President ever into office, not once but twice.

Anyway, the Rethugs just don't have enough on Obama (Wright will wear pretty thin by the time this primary is over. It's been forever), but Clinton they HATE and always have. She mus t know it and she must know they are kissing up to her. BUT, she's proven to me this primary just how low down and dirty she is. I started out thrilled to no end that we had not one but TWO great candidates. Not anymore. I am not as bitter as the Clinton lapdogs and WILL vote for her if she gets the nomination........but, sadly, and holding my nose. I hate her but think she's capable. I wish I could say I respect her, but I don't any more.

Whoa - this is weird. The photo shows a woman with Hillary signs and a headline about Republicans voting democrat.

But the article is about a republican woman is voting for Obama.

Why would Huffpo use that photo if the woman in the article is campaigning for Obama.

Something is odd here.

The caption on THIS picture, as it appears in the NYT:

'Darlene Boatman, a Republican, will vote in the Democratic primary,
too: "Much as I like John McCain as a war hero, I am fearful he does
not have the depth of experience to fix the economy."'

(I'm guessing that Ms Boatman is NOT an Obama supporter, but...)

Under a DIFFERENT picture, you read:

'"I used to like John McCain, but he"s aligning himself too closely with
what Bush did," said Shirley Morgan, a Republican canvassing this
week for Mr. Obama, in Noblesville, Ind.'

And under a 3rd picture, you read:

'Melissa Achtien, a Republican, canvassing for Senator Barack Obama
in Fishers, Ind., ahead of next week"s Democratic primary, in which she
plans to vote.'

(So, we can conclude that Repos in Indiana are voting for Demos, with
two-thirds favoring Obama! One can only hope that this is the full picture.)

My take is the republicans want to run against Hillary and not Obama for two main reasons: 1) against Hillary, McCain has an outside chance of beating her in November; 2) more realistically, they think that McCain is going to lose whoever the democrat nominee is, so better it's Hillary because a) she is a moderate and tied to special interests, 2) they can disrupt her term in office to a great degree with all sorts of accusations of corruption, etc. and 3) they believe they can get back in office in 2012 because she is so weak and vulnerable to attack.

Obama on the other hand presents serious problems to the neocon agenda. First he will change the structure and concept of our government for the good of the people, meaning the oil/insurance/banking/military oligarchy that now runs things will be controlled. Second, he will win a second term, and possibly his VP could win two more terms, so they are out for 16 years. Hillary is far more palatable to the republican business plan than Obama, so they are actively investing in her candidacy.

Oh for months I have been reading posts here from Obama supporters critical of Hillary and calling her every name in the book because they claim Republicans and Rush Limbaugh got her votes in certain states.

Now it looks like Obama is attracting the Republicans.

Well I for one can see why. The Republicans and the Obama surrogates and supporters have proven they can run a campaign like the Bushies and Karl Rove.

These two groups are birds of a feather.

Karl Rove would feel at home with these guys anyday.

Thanks for ruining the Dem party.

I campaigned in January in SC for Obama and guess what? There were Republicans that came from out-of-state to do the same thing to show their support for Obama. I truly believe that the entire 'Operation Chaos' thing was to counter the Obama defectors - except it probably did help Rush's ego, maybe he doesn't have to take as many pills (blue or otherwise) now. You are wrong if you truly think there aren't any insincere Hillary votes being cast now. I've seen the Operation Chaos t-shirts on election day in PA.

Neo-cons couldn't decide they thought HC would be easier to beat, but now they think Barack
H. will be easier, with no knowledge of Iraq,(foreign policy) the economy or healthcare. McSame
will remind people how Al Queda, Hezbo, and the rest of the middle east want Husein Obama in the White house, so they can influence his relgious beliefs. The little brown man from the east will rise and rule the earth. That along with Rev. Wright and his chickens that came home to roose will scare the dickens out the rednecks in the country. LOL. So we get GW Bush for another
four years at least, maybe Obama, ought to offer his services as VP for the Republican party,
he loves Ronald Reagan so well, and is willing to reach across the aisle to the neo-cons.

"...and he doesn"t speak to my heart the way this Barack Obama man does."

You never see this much passion for Senator Clinton. People fight to the death for things they are passionated about. People rationalize with Senator Clinton, you want someone who you think is tougher than the Republicans, who can get down and dirty on their level. You want someone who will do to the Republicans what they've done to us.

When Senator Obama wins the nomination, I don't expect all of her supporters to rally around Senator Obama, but enough will. The rest will have four years to shed their bitterness.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:48 PM on 05/03/2008

All those women that say this about not voting for Obama can just go back to what they do best and not vote for him then. I think we will have no problem in November. Who in the hell wants a 72 yr old fossil replacing Bush, with the ability of none.

How the winner wins in the general will depend on how the loser loses in the primay. If Clinton doesn't get the nomination and she rallies around Obama and she talks about the responsibility of defeating McCain, and she makes a strong and sincere case to her supporters, then most people will put aside their rancor and put the country first.

I hope the smae thing will happen on the other side if Obama doesn't get the nomination.

You can be sure that Senator Obama WILL support Senator Clinton for president with one of the best political speeches imaginable.

You can be sure that the opposite will not be the case, if for no other reason than Senator Clinton being a less than mediocre political speaker with no talented speech writer on her team.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:00 PM on 05/03/2008

It doesn't take a great speech writer to give a great speech. It just takes passion and belief.

Some of Senator Clinton's most genuine moments came when she wasn't trying to be calculating or plotting, most memorably in the debate when she closed with she was honored to be here with Senator Obama.

That felt real and for that moment I thought better of her. I hope she can do that, but she has to want to do it, for her party and the country, not because it's part of a calculated political move.

She isn't a very good actress, the people would be able to tell.

I"m a registered republican, a vet and have an advanced college degree. I, like McCain, am also a septuagenarian, i.e., we"re about the same age. I have strayed only once, at least in a POTUS general election, when voting for John F. Kennedy. I find Barack Obama equally inspiring and am actively supporting him. McCain is a great American and a war hero. However, we old duffers tend to have lapses of memory and we don"t need to have "senior moments" at 3:00 a.m., or at any time for that matter. But rest assured, it would be a cold day in Hades before I would ever consider Hillary Clinton. She"s dishonest, divisive and harbors way too many negatives.

Clinton and McCain pander to the unwary intellectually deprived on the economy et al. Gas Tax Holiday? Please pay attention to the experts; it would be a disastrous step in the wrong direction. .

Nuke Iran? Lost American lives in the Middle East for oil? Please, enough is enough.

Being a warmonger is not synonymous with testicular fortitude. Being cool, calm and collected takes juevos.
