Live from New York...Vote Hillary!

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Let's face it, the Republicans love Hillary Clinton. They quietly in their heart of hearts pine for her to win the Democratic nomination. The Republican Governor of Florida is rolling out the red carpet for a second primary which will favor Clinton. Pat Buchanan can't be quiet about how much he respects Hillary. Even Ann Coulter pal and SNL sketch writer Jim Downey has written several sketches portraying Hillary as picked on by the press. Downey is one of the all time great sketch writers but I know he's no Hillary fan. Don't get me wrong, I like Hillary and still think Bill Clinton is one of our great presidents. But it's weird. Weird like....well, Pat Buchanan praising Hillary Clinton.

Now it's possible the corporate right wants her to win in order to keep afloat the huge economy of Hillary hate bumper stickers that if my numbers are correct generates over 55 billion dollars in revenue for the south.* They also could be supporting her because after over seven years of the absolute incompetence that is the Bush administration they finally get that corporate welfare and tax breaks for millionaires are not good for the economy. Or maybe they think she's Hilary Swank.

But more likely, in fact, screw it, for sure, they are backing her the way I root for Nenad Krstic to cover Keven Garnett so the Big Ticket can put up twenty and twenty on him.

And yes, it's sad that someone as capable as Hillary would be considered fodder for McCain, a "don't change horses in mid-stream, even when it takes that horse twelve years to cross that stream" kind of guy. Senator McCain just got the thumbs up from Bush. Isn't an endorsement from W like a job reference from that astronaut chick who lost it and wore diapers? Well, she is an astronaut and Bush is president.

The biggest upside of this whole thing is that SNL has clearly still got clout even in this day of a thousand channels and a billion internet sites. They influenced a primary for F's sake. That's big. Now I wrote for the show in the nineties and it's an incredible place that's actually as exciting as it seems like it would be. I've seen SNL have incredible political influence in a good way (Dennis Miller's line about Reagan: "It scares me when the finger nearest the button has a string tied around it.") and a bad way (Portraying Bush and Gore as equally buffoonish in their debates. Bush was an embarrassment and the sketch made people think they were in the same ballpark.). It's had its left wing writers like Al Franken and it's right-wing writers like Jim Downey, who also wrote those Bush-Gore debates sketches. Franken is now running for the Senate and Downey is spinning primaries.

There's no doubt our nation's comedic TV political coverage between SNL, the Daily Show and the Colbert Report is far better than the straight news. And though that's a pithy and tired observation, it's also stone cold, for better or for worse, true.

So put your bumper stickers on your cars Repubs: "Hillary in '08, Up Until November, and then McCain!" If you drive an Excursion it'll fit.

*My numbers were not correct.

Hillary is a blowhard much like her male counterparts. Her much vaunted "experience" as the wife of a president is as delusional as her claim of readiness to be commander-in-chief based on her ?35? years.
By sheer coincidence, 35 years is exactly what is required by law (the Constitution) in order to even qualify as a candidate for president, so its not much of a brag to call attention to that. So, its a basic qualification, not evidence of experience. Of course, the absence of evidence of experience is not proof of the lack of evidence of experience--uh,,,better to leave such torturous constructs to the experts like Rumsfeld. Anyone seen him lately? Must be off shaking hands with one of our many enemies who was formerly our ally.

All I want from this self-centered ambitious wreck is how she managed to turn a $1000 investment into a $100,000 bonanza, in one short year during her husband's presidency. Unless this represents a most questionably unbecoming affiliation with one of the smartest financial gurus in the nation, it seems Hillary would be better qualified as the new head of the Federal Reserve. With talents like she demonstrated (without explanation) she could probably retire the national debt by herself. Move over Bernanke!

When a blog starts with the words, "Let's face it, the Republicans love Hillary Clinton"- it's not worth reading on. Has there ever been a politician the Republicans have HATED more than Hillary Clinton? I guess Bill Clinton would be in that race...but that is all.

Republicans hate Hillary, but they love the way she's dividing the Democratic Party and undercutting our nominee, Senator Obama. Hillary has put a smile on Rush Limbaugh's face, just like she did when she voted for the war. Good job!

The Republicans and the media pundits are still desperately trying to play their very lame reverse psychology game. First they spend the last two months singing the praises of Obama all over the map, with all their sheep bleating he will be much harder to beat than Hillary. But even so, because they're such a great group, they would prefer to run against him because he's such an exciting guy!
Of course, they think the voter will never notice, they're planting this seed in the unsuspecting 'not to bright' voters minds. Step two.. condition the public to believe Hillary stands little chance of beating McCain; because people hate her.....blah blah, blah. They run with that non stop day and night all over MSM and having a field day... vilifying their 'target of the year'..

Step three: The pattern then continues with the Obama camp repeating the same nonsense like drones on automatic pilot.

Take a look at past posts. How many times have we been subjected to: "....Hated more than Hillary.... hate Hillary..... in the last 3 months? .

And they say Obama is running a positive campaign ? LOL.

Yes, the Repugs HATE Hillary Clinton and that's the big reason why they want the Dems to put her on the ticket -- ask any of them, and they'll tell you that she would be the one unifying force for bringing their disenchanted voters out to vote for McCain in November!

Pay attention, Dems -- the Clintons will not be voted back into the White House again by a majority of American voters! Everyone's been there on that bridge back to the 20th century!

Also, for as much as they dislike the Clintons, they would rather have Hillary in office than Obama. Obama's call for civic participation scares the hell out of the conservatives. Either way, Hillary and the Republicans are on the same side. She is indeed McCain lite.

"Don't get me wrong I like Hillary." If ever a guy was lying through his teeth. You probably hate her guts but don't have the guts yourself to say so, you sound like McCain when he starts to lie about something. "My friend "he would say "don't get me wrong". If you like Hillary none of that stuff would phase you.The question is how much do you like her. Enough to support her for president or enough to damn her with faint praise?Me thinks it is the latter.

My favorite part is where he says "The Republican Governor of Florida is rolling out the red carpet for a second primary which will favor Clinton." Like it's somehow a BAD thing to let Florida's Democratic voters have a say in who our nominee should be, just because they turned out overwhelmingly for Hillary the first time. Last time I checked, Florida was the third largest state, and since it was pretty evenly divided between Gore & the idiot in '2000, that probably means a pretty big number of Democratic voters live there. I guess maybe we shouldn't name our party the "Democratic" Party anymore. Perhaps the "OBAMAcratic" Party would be more appropriate, especially since the word "democratic" generally implies that you allow all qualified people the right to vote. Oh, and he's hardly "rolling out the red carpet." I saw him interviewed by Wolfe Blitzer, and he said unequivocally that the only way it could happen is if the Democratic Party completely foots the bill, and that's estimated at around $20 million dollars.

You missed the point of "The Republican Governor of Florida is rolling out the red carpet for a second primary which will favor Clinton."
McKay is saying that Republicans are tripping over themselves to get Hillary nominated, because they stand a better chance against her in the General. If Clinton is the nominee I agree that the current apathy in the repub party would dissapear and instead GOTV for McCain (or against Hillary). I really do believe that, but that is not going to stop me from voting for her if she is the nominee. I just think Obama has a better chance against McCain.

Florida and Michigan unwisely flouted their party's rules, gambling that the DNC would back down. It didn't, and now the Floridians and Michigonians are crying about it?

I like David Plouffe's idea: Split the delegates from those states evenly between Clinton and Obama, 50/50. Now, Clinton will not like that, because it still brings Obama closer to the magic number, making the "superdelegates" increasingly superfluous.

Can anyone remember SNL before the writer's strike? In one Hallowe'en themed skit, Hillary (played by Amy Poehler) was dressed as a bride but everyone at the party thought she was a witch. Ha ha! How funny and original! Then someone in an Obama mask shows up, takes off his mask, and reveals -- the real Obama -- to the adoration of the partygoers and studio audience. I don't remember what he said exactly but it was something along the lines that he was going to crash more of Hillary's parties. Certainly it was a plug for Obama when he wasn't thought to be the frontrunner.

I know this is the Obama Post now, but jeez. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Go ahead, call me a Republican plant!

The reason that Bill Clinton won't release the names of people who donated to his Presidential library is that he has received millions upon millions of dollars from Dubai, Arab Shieks and Islamic organizations. Do you think they are donating this money to the Clintons without expecting favors? That is why the Clintons won't release their tax returns and other information being asked of them by Obama's camp. This information is coming from Dick Morris, Clinton political advisor for 20 years. He knows a thing or two about the Clintons. It's interesting how the Clinton work. I thinks it's high time to press the Clinton to release their tax returns so we find out exactly who THEY are in bed with.

I always supported free elections in the USA but after the last few years, maybe we should make people show some intelligence and not be paranoid. Hillary is a republican? Who is believing this crap? I know a lot of republicans and not one of them is supporting Hillary. Most of these republicans aren't happy that McCain is the party's nominee. I live in Texas and I didn't even vote in the primary. I'm probably not voting in the general election unless someone picks me up at my door, buys me some beer and cigarettes and drops me back off at home (I feel naked in the voting both without a 40oz beer).

Look there isn't some vast right wing conspiracy guiding Hillary to victory. The republicans are just as dumb as the democrats. Anyway, I' sick and tired of the candidates with all their advisors telling the candidates on what to say. The candidates need to say what they really feel. I also agree that we should remove the ability of foreign powers to donate money to presidential libraries and campaigns. I support removing all contributions above $10 and only from USA citizens that can vote. Take all the money out of the race and the big paid advisors will disappear. The influence of foreign powers will disappear.

What don't you get. They support her in the primary. They know that if she is on the head of the ticket that it will unite republicans and keep those of us who are disgusted by the shame the Clintons continue to wear, like a badge of honor, will stay home. But after all ... I don't expect you to understand. That is how the Clintos have gotten this far.

Just sent the following to SNL today. Thought it fit perfectly into this post. (Monique and others how did Michael Vick get into this post, jeez--half the page too??!!).

Mr. Michael’s,

I remember very well the beginnings of Saturday Live with its original talented cast, hilarious skits and its young, hip aura. These days it all seems contrived and mainstream, and frankly, not very funny. I also found it odd that you seem to have decided to align the show especially in your opening skits, with the soon to be 61 year old Hillary Clinton and to portray Obama—not only by hiring a white actor with darkened face, but also as a mono-syllabic doofus (sp?). I don’t see on what level that is funny—or even an accurate caricature. It was just hurtful and dismissive of all the young people, of every ethnicity that have cast their lot and hopes with the Obama campaign. It is doubly puzzling since Obama is no where near as clueless as our current president. They are in a completely different league. He is brilliant, hip, and clearly competent—having run one of the most successful and well managed campaigns in recent history. He came from nowhere and knocked off some of the longest serving candidates in Washington. A doofus couldn’t have done that. For that, he has become the target of a media onslaught of thinly documented, largely untruthful, and strangely envious propaganda.

Yes, I am an Obama supporter. I am also female, and in Clinton’s age group. I voted for her husband twice. But, as a woman, I have been disappointed and embarrassed by her performance in this campaign, especially in the last few weeks. She has played into all the negative stereotypes about women (which are evident and I will not list here). Now she has turned into an attack candidate, along with the media, that is not at all what anyone wanted in this campaign—doing and saying anything to win whether it’s true or not. It’s a Republican tactic that has been a source of great distress to long time Democratic voters who came out of the hip, young, cool SNL legacy, who wanted truth, but not libel. Now, SNL seems just cruel, out of touch and stale—and frankly, rarely funny. Having lived through the glory days, sometimes it’s too painful to watch. It reminds me of the aging baby boomers who walk around with drastically receding hair lines, and snow white pony tails in the back—very sad. SNL is on a walker and will soon be on life support if you don’t change your message and align yourself with the messages of hope and change that young people are espousing. They are the ones who will keep SNL and this country alive and strong—not an alignment with past policies that many young people know little about, and about which they care even less.

Fred Armisen is half white I think like Obama. So I do not see your point.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:14 AM on 03/07/2008

The caricature of Obama is actually dead on, if you pay attention to Obama at all. Armisen is not portraying him as a fool - he is perfectly capturing (in a comically exaggerated manner) how Obama carefully constructs and parses everything he says before it leaves his mouth. Don't get me wrong - I think this is a fine trait. It is certainly preferable to the stream-of-unconsciousness gibberish that dubya spouts.
But it is funny.
It is amusing how Obama never speaks off the cuff; and his halting delivery, when we can see the wheels turning, piecing together the most perfectly vague yet inspirational phrasing (this when he isn't riffing from his practiced and polished arsenal of rhetoric), is ripe for parody.

What I wonder is why this is a problem. When Obama was embraced by those TV or media people, I haven't heard complaints from the people that time, the people who didn't like what happened right now. Instead, what I heard was celebrations for over-criticizing Hillary, and pushing for more of that.

Really, that is really strange. Everyone has the right to make a choice and display that choice. And, even that choice to support Hillary is "nothing" compared to what the opposite side have been doing to push for more Obama in multiple ways. And I am glad some of the people have come to their senses and wake up from the virtual reality created by the Obama punishers, again residing, in the virtual world.

SARGE1,

See, this is the problem.

When you have a DEBATE and when people are running for PRESIDENT, there is a reason for all of the questions.

See, the candidates are supposed to show their knowledge, expertise, and intellect, instead of repeatedly saying something along the lines of "Brian, I agree with everything Hillary said."

I don't think she is whining when she points out the bias of the press -- a press which is very influential, and very much to blame for the fact that we don't know very much about a candidate that is just a few steps away from taking the most important and powerful job in the world.

See, those debates have a purpose. And the press has a duty -- which they have blatantly disregarded.

As a post menopausal crone, myself, and proud of it, I gotta tell ya, kids, it ain't just donuts the Clinton campaign is spending all that $$$ on. You don't want to know what's underneath all that polished Hillary exterior, believe me, but it takes a lot of semollians to look that good at her age. And John McCain, well he'll never admit the exquisite pain it is for him just to get up and walk after an hour in a chair, but you can believe it's heroic. Can't we, just this once, put some trust in the young of this country for a damned change? We've tried old, dignified, experienced for centuries and it worked out for awhile. But change is good and the times call for a bold, new approach to this weary world. Tell Hillary to own up to that grey hair, now, and get behind the man who speaks for a brave new world: Barack Obama!

I mean, all this time, I was concerned about silly issues like national security and the economy and the environment, and all the while, I was overlooking the real important issues. I was so distracted, I totally didn't snap that maybe Hillary was coloring her hair! I feel so foolish.

I mean, you are so right, what we need to do is set aside all the wisdom that age bestows upon us, and -- I'm sorry, how did you put it? Oh, yes, I remember, we need to "...put some trust in the young of this country.." Brilliant.

Thank you for cutting through all the crap and helping us to focus on the right priorities. Silly me -- why, of course, we should dismiss any knowledge, wisdom, or experience that McCain or Hillary may be able to share with us. I mean, damnit, you say it hurts him to walk, and that she looks too damn good fo her age, so you must be right!

Thanks for focsuing us all in the right direction. Youth, yes, therein lies the answer to all our problems. Thanks Grandma.

I don't have a problem with politically based humor - SNL has always done that. But this year they've made a straight up endorsement of Hillary. Which is fine, as long as they go ahead and say that fully and don't act like they're just creating non-biased humor. Take your shots, but spread it around, or, if not, clearly state that you are rooting for someone in particular. SNL state your pro-Hillary endorsement for the record.

the964kid:

They didn't endorse Hillary at all. What they did was demonstrate what the public has been subjected to by the 'pretend journalists and pundits' at CNN and MSNBC. It has gotten to the point of being grotesque in its anti Hillary bias. And still is.

Last night on Anderson 360... a 'new and real pro Hillary pundits' (I guess they're half heartedly trying to pretend they're credible... and democratic) was pointing out Anderson's mistake in reporting the polls.. and that the polls actually showed, Hillary would win hands down against McCain etc... Well Anderson sure looked like he swallowed his gum, and almost leapt off his chair in his zeal to silence the guy. The funny thing was the Hillary supporter ... firmly stood his ground and insisted Anderson Cooper (the Keeping Em Honest Hypocrit) allow him to finish his point and correct the misinformation Cooper had given the viewer.

Cooper had no choice but to agree... but my God, he couldn't shut this man up fast enough.. babbling, okay, okay, enough, enough... the public isn't interested in this... Which is a pile of bullshit... because the public is very interested in (a) hearing an honest to goodness Hillary supporter be able to speak.... on CNN for a change; instead of the Donna Brazille type - creepy crawler CNN ass kissers, professing to 'love Hillary'... except...... as they go on to sing Obama's praises for the next half hour; whilst giving him advice on how to beat their good friend Hillary ..

Instead of calling it "keeping them honest" why not BE honest and call it the "Praise Obama - lie about Hillary Hour" - Now that'd be honest!

In any event, watching Cooper.... squirm was an absolute 'delight'.
