State of the Union: a Love Song

The idea of Bush clearing out corruption is literally insane. Like asking Baskin Robbins to be in charge of our national diet.

This Tuesday's State of the Union was an old fashioned three chord love song. Education, alternative energy, health care, fighting terrorism, clearing government corruption. Unfortunately hearing George W Bush talk about education and cutting oil dependency comes off as sincere as hearing Mick Jagger sing about how he can't live without a particular woman. You just know there's, oh, two thousand Brazilian models who would say otherwise. Wild Horses couldn't drag him away but any woman under 25 in fishnet stockings can.

It's the same for Bush. There is not a chance in hell that George W Bush will reduce oil dependency. There is no way that he will ever create a better public education system that is fair for all. He will never, ever, ever, create a tax structure that doesn't favor the rich. Bush does not care about AIDS at all. He is far more concerned about steroids in baseball. He really is. Is there one single Republican who would deny any of this?

And the idea of Bush clearing out corruption is literally insane. Like asking Baskin Robbins to be in charge of our national diet.

The only good news is that at least it's clear these are the issues America cares about. If that's the love song Bush sings it must work. No band sings Devil With the Red Dress On unless there's some hips shaking in the crowd. So at least America wants good things. We just need a lead singer who's not a cynical whorish creep. Maybe Mick's free.
