DEBATE: It's About More Than Medicare...

Americans watching tonight's debate would think the only thing seniors and soon-to-be seniors care about is social security and Medicare. But the 79 million baby boomers who are turning 65 in the next 10 years desperately need home care workers to allow them to age at home with dignity. And that means jobs. Good jobs. When are we going to hear the candidates address the full needs of seniors -- and the future of our workforce?

Mitt Romney and President Obama are both clearly concerned about the needs of seniors and the plight of unemployed workers in our country. So why not talk about both, together?

To keep pace with our rapidly aging population, we need to add at least 1.6 million new trained and qualified care workers to our economy by 2020. That, simply put, is a game changer for seniors and our economy. And not addressing this need would be disastrous for our aging communities.

Almost 17,000 Americans have signed an open letter asking President Obama and Mitt Romney to respond to a question about how, if elected, they will safeguard the health and dignity of our seniors while also creating well paid, well trained care jobs that so many workers and our economy clearly need.

Talking about Social Security and Medicare is a good start, but just a fraction of what voters need to hear. Hopefully in the next debate we can hear some real solutions to these pressing challenges.
