When we get that inner urge, when we hear the call from deep inside us, when we feel that knowing in our heart of hearts that tells us it's time for a change, we have two choices -- we can either honor it or ignore it.
As human beings we can easily become creatures of habit. Whether we have become complacent with our positive accomplishments, or whether we are addicted to pain, drama and disappointment, it is all too easy to resist the part of us that wants to burst free from our self-imposed cocoons of the familiar routines we use to define ourselves.
To say: "That's just the way I am..." or "I can't do what I really want because of A, B or C..." is often a web designed by the ego to keep us "safe" from the uncertainty of change. However, it is also a way to keep us trapped in a life that is less than fulfilling.
If we are on a spiritual journey -- which I define as a way of living where we acknowledge and work with the energy of our Source -- it becomes a question of whether or not we trust that connection enough to honor the wisdom and guidance it offers us. Whatever we call this Higher Power -- be it God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Spirit, The Universe or something else -- the question is, do we have the courage to listen when it speaks to and through us?
It may be that we are guided to move to a new residence, or to leave a job we have outgrown. Sometimes the "knowing" is urging us to start a business we've been thinking about for many years, to end a relationship that is broken, or to take time out for a sacred journey. It may even call us to relocate to a place where we have no friends or family, in order to start a new life.
What I have learned, is that to ignore this calling is to stunt one's own growth, to block one's blessings and to deprive oneself of the freedom and exhilaration derived from walking by faith. The fear of change can be overwhelming if we run from it, for what we resist will become ever more persistent. So the excuses and reasons why we can't or won't make that positive change pile up and become our reality and our prison.
What I have also learned is that to honor this sacred urging of the inner voice is to discover the richest aspects of ourselves. To answer the call from within is to set ourselves free. To muster up the courage to say in any relevant situation -- "Pardon me, I have to go now, my life is calling!" -- is to set a new flight plan into motion that will launch us into the life we have always known was possible deep down in our hearts.
To trust the inner voice enough to take the first step, is to activate the universal gifts of divine grace and fortitude that will reveal the path to happiness which is the precursor to realizing our fondest dreams. It is the spark that ignites our inner light so that we become a blessing to the world. It is the power to germinate seeds of love -- for ourselves and others -- that will take root and flourish to serve a purpose greater than we ever imagined.
I invite you to join me in making 2014 the year when we allow the true happiness and prosperity we KNOW lies deep inside of us to blossom. Through our prayers and meditations, let us connect with our Source to discover our first steps. Taking one step at a time, we will breathe easy and trust.
Let us now commit to letting go of all of the fears we have allowed to hold us back, so we can discover and embrace our real lives! Thinking with our heart -- the seat of our souls -- let's launch ourselves into true fulfillment.
