Meet Paul Ryan

Posted: 08/13/2012 10:51 pm

Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's new running mate, has a history of anti-climate science statements and votes, according to Brad Johnson:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Mitt Romney's vice-presidential pick, is a virulent denier of climate science, with a voting record to match.

A favorite of the Koch brothers, Ryan has accused scientists of engaging in conspiracy to "intentionally mislead the public on the issue of climate change." He has implied that snow invalidates global warming.

Ryan has voted to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from limiting greenhouse pollution, to eliminate White House climate advisers, to block the U.S. Department of Agriculture from preparing for climate disasters like the drought devastating his home state, and to eliminate the Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E).

He has also said there is "growing disagreement among scientists about climate change and its causes."

In addition to his opposition to meaningful action to reduce global warming pollution, Paul Ryan's budget called for "drastic cuts in federal spending on energy research and development and for the outright elimination of subsidies and tax breaks for wind, solar power and other alternative energy technologies."

Solving the climate crisis requires political leadership that recognizes the serious reality of global warming and fights for policies that move us toward a clean energy economy, not backward.

Dear Piranha:

Take some Novocaine. I am about to remove all your teeth.

Ice Ages are now believed to be caused by Milankovitch cycles in the earth’s orbital precession. The cycle is well understood and we should be entering a cooling period now but we are not, thanks to man made global warming.
Water vapor is the major greenhouse gas, of course, but it has the habit of condensing and precipitating out of the air as rain, snow, and ice, so it only exists in low parts per million concentration throughout most of the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, on the other hand, is present in nearly 400 parts per million concentration throughout most of the atmosphere and already has reached 400 parts per million in some places.
The pre-industrial age carbon dioxide level was around 280 parts per million. Humans have increased the level by 40 percent to nearly 400 parts per million. Humans do not contribute all the CO2 in the air, they just add enough to tip the balance of nature so that we are adding it faster than nature can remove it.
Arthur Clark considered Fred Singer an old friend but a far lesser intellect. He wrote disparagingly about Singer having to be convinced by others that man could rocket into space, even though Singer was a rocket scientist himself at the time. Singer is not respected by many scientists, especially since he supported the tobacco industry, and did not believe in ozone depletion by Freon.

climate-eagle, aka netdr, Plato, etc has stated, "Those that milk fear of 1/2 degree per century warming with one at all this century are without honor and should be defeated."
To support this claim, he will cite a graph carefully cherry picked from the CRU's data.

The BEST study presents a very comprehensive graph that integrates data from NASA, NOAA, the CRU and it's own analysis.

http://berkeleyearth.org/analysis/

The National Center for Atmospheric Research states, "Averaged over all land and ocean surfaces, temperatures have warmed roughly 1.33°F (0.74ºC) over the last century, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change..." and goes on to say, "There are slight differences in global records between groups at NCDC, NASA, and the University of East Anglia. Each group calculates global temperature year by year, using slightly different techniques. However, analyses from all three groups point to the decade between 2000 and 2009 as the hottest since modern records began more than a century ago."

http://www2.ucar.edu/climate/faq/how-much-has-global-temperature-risen-last-100-years

There's the big picture that his cherry picking attempts to hide.

Climate change is absent from the debate in this election. That says something pretty dreadful to me about the quality of all of our esteemed "leaders". No issue is more important, and none is less welcome as a serious topic in our national conversation it seems.

dear sir, you are a big supporter of the environment, yet you never mention the consumption of animals and all it involves accounts for more global warming then anything else. You never bring it up. not to mention you have to KILL an animal if you want to eat meat and if you knew how bad animals are treated and housed, it makes any prison ever invented a luxury hotel in comparision. And when you check out, you know you are about to be murdered. great life. I hope all you steak lovers come back as Bulls. lol

The Koch brothers. Nuff said.

If some Hollywood hack were to make a movie with two evil villains using the factual biographical information of the Koch brothers, the audience would get up and leave proclaiming the movie 'not believable'.

If he thinks that catastrophic AGW is unlikely no matter how much money we throw at politicians including himself he is a man of integrity.

I will vote for Romney and him in a heartbeat.

Those that milk fear of 1/2 degree per century warming with one at all this century are without honor and should be defeated.

You have never answered the question about why ancient corals didn't go extinct.

There was much much more CO2 then.

The acidification lie is just that a lie !

climate-eagle:

"You have never answered the question about why ancient corals didn't go extinct."

I am not interested in your astroturfing strawman. You read something on the Watts fossil fuel misinformation franchise, and then you rush over here to peddle it for weeks on end. That is why they keep throwing you off the board netdr.

"The acidification lie is just that a lie !"

We'll go with the qualified oceanographers at NOAA, not you netdr who has a long record of falsifying every single thing about climate.

The ocean is acidifying. The atmosphere is getting carbonized.

Al Gore's book has been created in an "app" form and received hearty, glowing reviews from David Pogue, New York Times technology columnist.....

"I took the bait. I met with him and his collaborators on “Our Choice,” a $5 app version (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch) of Mr. Gore’s 2009 best seller of the same name.

Now, I’ll be frank with you: I must get pitched every other week on some “revolutionary” e-book app that claims to reinvent the book. That usually means it has a couple of video clips in it.

“Our Choice,” though, might actually live up to the boast....
It’s vintage Gore: persuasive, careful, reasoned and filled with layman-ized recaps of recent scientific research. If you didn’t know about black carbon, albedo and halocarbons, you will after reading “Our Choice.”

The Republicans are a direct result of the lack of oversight they compell their member to.
Accepting poor performance is condoning poor performance....The same application that could be said of Wall Street.....except in both cases their behaviors are by design and intent.

Don't be simplistic. Killing off the EPA will instantly lead to increasing pollution and emissions. Thanks a hundred Republicans.

More jobs will be created by regulation of polluters. They will have to take measures to reduce the toxins they release and those measures will require manpower. JOBS !!!!!!!!!

Riders, quietly added last summer to HR 2584 by the Republicans.........

Blocks EPA Guidelines on Misleading Pesticide Labels [Section 460]: Prohibits funding for the EPA to finalize guidelines on misleading information provided on pesticide labels.

Blocks Fictitious EPA Action on Ammonia Emissions[Section 461]: Prohibits funding for the EPA to develop or implement regulations related to ammonia emissions under the secondary standard for NOx and SOx. EPA has already stated that it has no intention of doing so.

Blocks Clean Air Rules for Power Plants and Requires a Study That Ignores Public Health Benefit of the Clean Air Act [Section 462]: Directs the EPA to do a cumulative assessment of the impacts of EPA regulations, and prohibits funding for the "Utility MACT" and "Transport" rules.

Blocks Permit Requirements for Pesticide Discharge in Waterways [Title V]: Amends the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act and the Clean Water Act to eliminate requirements for chemical companies and agriculture to obtain permits for pesticides entering waterways.

More legislation added out of the media's sight last summer, while the Republicans added riders to HR 2584 for their pay masters, aka corporate sponsors. All while they pitched tantrums over a debt ceiling they cared nothing about. They just needed to produce for their lobbyist attorneys.....you know, the authors of the bills they submitted to the floor of congress.
Congress is no longer the House of government where the citizens business gets done. It's the corporate sponsors house.

Blocks EPA Opinions on Pesticides : Prevents the EPA from using biological opinions related to pesticides and the Endangered Species Act, with a focus on ESA-listed salmon.

Blocks Clean Air Act Regulations of Cement Industry : Prohibits funding for the EPA to implement Clean Air Act regulations on the manufacture of Portland cement.

Blocks EPA Enforcement of Florida Water Quality Standards : Prohibits funding for the EPA to implement or enforce numeric Florida Water Quality Standards even though the state receives millions in federal funds for water projects.

Blocks EPA Greenhouse Gas Standard for Automobiles : Prohibits funding for the EPA to develop or finalize a new greenhouse gas standard for automobiles after model year 2016.

Blocks Clean Air Act Regulations of Fine Particles/Soot : Prohibits funding for the EPA to regulate certain levels of particulate matter in the air under the Clean Air Act.

Blocks EPA Regulation of Hard Rock Mining Operations: Prohibits funding for the EPA to develop additional financial assurance requirements for hard rock mining.
