Anyone Can Become President
When my five-year-old kept talking about what he would do when he became president I always ended the conversation saying, "all you have to do is study hard and if you want it, anyone can become president." Of course I never believed that. I knew a week later he would want to be an actor or a scientist so I thought that was the easiest way to go on to another conversation. But Sarah Palin proved me wrong. ANYONE can now be president.
I like Sarah Palin's public speaking ability. I think she is fun to look at, certainly the hottest vice presidential candidate in history. But I looked up some facts. The United States has 10,000 nuclear weapons, 100 aircraft carriers, 3,000,000 people in the armed forces, and ten trillion dollars of debt.
I am now hearing from the Karl Roves of the world that having a 17-year-old daughter pregnant out of wedlock will make Palin sympathetic to millions of Americans who know the pain of that situation. But my question is WHERE WAS THE ADVICE? Do we want a president who cannot communicate to their own child that possibly having a baby a year after you get your driver's license is not the smartest thing to do? Is this the new way for women to break the glass ceiling? To have their daughters throw their babies at it? I want my president to control their children, then they can tell the Navy what to do.

I just cannot belive how the Repubs have just taken in Palin's daughter pregancy. From a group that just looks down on this kind of thing. What a hyprocisy by these people!!! But, then whatver it takes to win they will do. I cannot wait till the debate between Biden and Palin.. I hope he cleans her clock big time....

It's really quite ironic that the Republicans are always the ones who promulgate the political and social taboos - and they're always the ones who shatter them.
Anybody CAN become president. We've seen that first hand in the fact that Hillary is not the Democratic nominee.
Face it, Republican appeal to the bases of qualities of the general public. It is very concerning this is the way the US would like to be seen. We really have too much going for us to be in constant fear.
Ooohhh noooooo, Mr. Brooks, Can we please not reverse ourselves and change places with the conservatives? They're already experiencing motion sickness from the newness of telling people family matters should be private and that women can have full-time careers and pregnant teenagers don't mean ANYTHING about how they were parented, and sure it doesn't matter if it's the daddy who stays home.
Just watched Biden on Meet the Press. Can't wait til the Biden-Palin debate! She must be cramming for the intensive foreign policy class as we speak. Sunni say what?!
I was glad to hear Biden refer to Hillary supporters by saying that they would not necessarily support Palin just because she is a woman. Of course not, they a diametrically opposed! I find it an insult when the media states that we will do so because she is a woman and we are scorned!! I find that deduction very insulting! Do they think we are all idiots???
When your 5-year old becomes a 16 or 17 year old teen.....come back and tell us how you manage to "control" him. My son is now 24, my "control" ended at about 13. While I agree with your sentiment, it is spoken like someone who has never raised a teenager.
I love Albert Brooks. I could see him ranting and raving about this with his wife, especially the throwing their babies at the glass ceiling bit, while she nonchalantly ignored him. ROFL

Oh dear... don't you understand Republicans and the nature of doublespeak? Up is down, right is left, high is low... whatever they say is real. If Chelsea Clinton got pregnant at age 17 you can be sure that the scumbags who make up the GOP would have made a federal case out of it and the poor girl would have been hounded even if she married the baby's father. But when one of their own does the same thing... hey it's perfectly alright. She loves Jesus and that makes everything cool. Hypocrisy! What's happening to this country is that a substantial portion of the electorate swallows this crap without blinking. From my perspective, the girl probably never got a lot of guidance from her parents and screwed up. I'm sufficiently open minded to believe this is not a big deal but then I don't go around sermonizing on what's Satanic and godly. Kids (and adults) have been getting pregnant before marriage for generations. My mother did it in 1950. What's changed is that today such behavior is publicized, criticized, and lamented. Frankly, if Republicans weren't so hung up about this sort crap, I'd be opposed using it as an election issue but the GOP has hung their political life on social values so I say hang the bums with social values.
How many women shoot animals from planes, home-school their children so they can take care of the two babies in the family while Dad is off ;training for his sport, and Mom is away acting as governor? I see no softness or empathy in Palin for her children. Is public humiliation of a child an esteemed family value? These children had no spontaneous warmth for their mother on camera. She is using them for window dressing, they know it, and wonder when the American people will wise up.
She has babies having and raising babies. She has bigger fish to fry--the American people.
