Hoping the GOP Gets Its Act Together

I am an actor and someone employed in the entertainment business. I have my own opinions about how this government should be run and how disgracefully it has been run by both parties. I want to give it as hard as I can to those who willingly seek political roles and disgrace their office and, conversely, commend those who, in my opinion, behave commendably. I express those opinions un-self-consciously while never believing for one minute that they will influence anyone or anything. I do it as an American. For me, it's an American thing.

I am not the head of my Party.

Rush Limbaugh is an uneducated, marginally talented, overbearing, recovering drug addict who was, at least according to Wikipedia, ineligible for the draft because he had cysts on his ass.

I have dear friends of mine who represent real Republicans. Goldwater Republicans. Strong on defense. Tough on immigration. Fiscal conservatives. Not the bullshit Reagan wing of the party which, along with Clinton killing Glass-Steagall, brought us to where we are today.

My friends who are these real Republicans (not hypocritical evangelicals who are too lazy to raise their own children properly so, therefore, insist that all public institutions and policies bend to their will to make that job easier) do not listen to Limbaugh. They don't care what he says. They think he is an amusing entertainer. Like most progressives I know are well aware how hit-and-miss Michael Moore can be and, ultimately view him as an entertainer and don't give a damn what he says.

Until Limbaugh gets real, weans himself off the big salary and runs for office, he will always be nothing more than a poorly educated, marginally talented buffoon who has developed a real talent for manipulating the G-spot of the neocon consciousness and massaging the hate gland of so many economically displaced white voters in America.

I hope to God the GOP gets its act together soon and finds a real leader for their Party. Rush Limbaugh as the spokesperson for the GOP? 2010, I can't wait.

i agree...we're far to divisive in america ... there are many great republicans ... as well as terrible ones ... same goes for democrats ... and libertarians ... and everything in between ... it almost seems like parties take sides on every issue and there are few issues where both parties ever agree... even on the simple stuff ... i'm tired of the parties playing these stupid games of name calling ... and yes, i realize that i'm hypocritical because i bash the GOP more often than not ... and i have no excuses for it ... but i digress...

Michael Moore is not "just an entertainer"!
He is a respectful, serious man with serious points!
Limbaugh on the other hand is a crazy, desperate, sad hate monger.

Alaskans are dealing with Rushes "Princess Bride" GINO(Governor In Name Only) Palin. ewwww
Her divisiveness has remained in full gear since her election as Governor only her narcissistic tendencies are getting in the way of her priorities. Anyone donating to SaraPAC is putting their money into the Palin Abyss. She's building so many gates, her career may be headed for the pearly gates.

There are so many pressing issues out there: nuclear proliferation, Afghanistan, Iraq, governments defaulting and collapsing, absolute poverty, education the world over, technology, family...

Yet, people are wasting their neurons that fire electrical impulses that cascade from their brains to their finger tips to tap buttons on a keyboard that processes them and sends the combination of letters that form words out for the world to see about who? Rush Limbaugh? Really?

Limbaugh thrives off of people bashing him and talking about how wrong he is on a given issue. All you have to do to get your wish of a world without Limbaugh, is, whether it is good or bad, stop fueling his fire by talking about him. Simple.

REPUBLICANS DONT HAVE TO DO A THING. OBAMA IS DOING ALL THEIR WORK FOR THEM. HE HAS DROPPED 7 POINTS AFTER HIS FIRST MONTH IN OFFICE. FIRST TIME IN HISTORY OF US THAT HAS HAPPENED. IN ONE MORE YEAR HE WILL BE THE MOST DESPISED PRESIDENT IN HISTORY. HE IS THE NEW JIMMY CARTER FOR DEMOCRATS. GOP IS RUBBING THEIR HANDS ON HOW BAD HE IS DOING ON THE ECONOMY AND TAXES. WE SHOULD HAVE PUT HILARY IN THAT JOB. BELIEVE ME THE IDES OF MARCH ARE COMING AND OBAMA IS LOOKING TERRIBLE TO LOTS OF INDEPENDENTS WHO THOUGHT HE WAS SMART. NOW WE FIND HE IS IVORY TOWER SMART BUT NOT STREET SMART. I WILL VOTE FOR ROMNEY NEXT TIME IF WE HAVE A COUNTRY LEFT WITH ANY MONEY.

Your point is all the stronger because it is in all caps. It's very inviting and creates an environment in which people will read and respect your thoughts. Thank you. No really. Thank you.

Conservatism has failed America
11:57 AM on 03/09/2009
The republicans lost in huge numbers because Americans finally saw them for what they are, hypocrites of the highest order. They wrap themselves in holy cloth and think they are above all. When ever you debate or contradict them they turn into a vile spewing hate monger, hell bent on destroying whatever is in their path. They are so far gone, they still don't see it for themselves. Our founding fathers were some really smart men--we got damn lucky there.

The separation of church and state is vital to the progress and vitality of a democracy. The right wing neo cons don't want a democracy though, they want religion to rule all our lives, which is no better than the Taliban or the Iranians, who allow religion to govern them--the very way of life we are against. Our country is built on freedoms, freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc. I say if you don't like those freedoms, MOVE to another country. We will not stand for anyone destroying our democracy.
04:50 PM on 03/10/2009
They only USE "religion" in hopes of ruling everyone's life. They hide behind religion to promote a less than savory agenda. There's nothing Godly or holy about what they're doing.
06:09 PM on 03/10/2009
So funny, I have said the same thing. All these right-wingers really ARE NO BETTER than the Taliban. I thought we were a democracy, not a theocracy!

Rush Limbaugh has a platform and a big mouth. That gives him carte blanche to be a vocal leader of the derelict party of skeletor and friends. The "God" of this religious/political fringe group is Ronnie Reagan. The only wise thing Reagan did as president (seen in the long focus of history) was to recognize the risk of nuclear proliferation, and actively engage in nuclear disarmament efforts. To their discredit, the republicans never mention this.

What the republicans really worship about Limbaugh is the same thing they admire in Reagan - his persona and his cult of personality. I suspect that Rush will be in the dustbin of history's ridicule in 15 years. His own lack of wisdom and appalling absence of compassion will ultimately tarnish even his pithy, snide witticisms and thin to the breaking his sarcastic over arching radio voice. How dramatically over time we have seen the conservative party fall. How loudly they splash around like a drunken drowning man in 8 feet of water. Do any of us really think this group can rise again? Let this "party" go where other outmoded, outrageous things have gone, to where the platypus and the dodo bird went. Let it be replaced by something more adaptive and less distorted - like conservationism or populism or neo socialist democracy.

Ahmmmm.....the platypus is still swimming in Australia and in zoos around the globe. Other than that, good commentary..

Your editorial was great. Especially when you referred to the "bullshit Reagan wing of the Republican party as "hypocritical evangelicals who are too lazy to raise their own children properly so, therefore, insist that all public institutions and policies bend to their will to make that job easier".

I had never had looked at it that way, but you are so right! Keep up the good work. We need more people like you, people who really care about our country and are willing to take the time to get involved, no matter the cost.

Limbaugh's sweat filled high pitched caterwailing reminds me of Meatloaf, but without the good music. Why isn't someone digging into Rush's past to dredge up the the sordidness that I'm sure's there?

Alec, you are much more effective screaming at 11 year olds....

Ain't it the truth! Alec Baldwin ***Honorary Father of the Year in Absentia***.

As this is my first post I'll introduce myself. I'm TheBigTent, a monicker contrived to give the correct impression that I try to accept others for what they are, within limits, and welcome them into my world. It is indeed unfortunate that I had to, upon my first exposure here, run into someone who is an embarassment to all of us OR should be! No amount of slanted reportage or damage control explanation in feigned sincerity on the boob tube replete with the hand-holding excess can change that.

Give us a break Alec. Take your show on the road and don't come back. You make us an easy target for those on the right.

Btw, I know many evangelical Christians and do NOT appreciate your broad-brush demonzing of them. Just because you define them as you did doesn't make it so. You do such as a rule w/out facts to back such charges up. To believe in God appears to be a secular mortal sin to the likes of you. You are NOT welcome in my big tent. I do NOT like or tolerate arrogant, pompous *sses.
12:48 AM on 03/10/2009
You fail to realize that 80% of the evangelical vote went for Bush both times. If they had remembered that they were voting to elect a President instead of a Pastor and voted with their heads and in the same proportion as the non evangelicals, GWB would never have been elected and we wouldn't be in the mess we are in. Their simplistic stupidity is the main reason that our beloved country is close to collapse.
02:52 AM on 03/10/2009
To- TheBigTent- uhmm - actually just in case your didn't notice, you are in ALEC's tent, and as your small tent seems only big enough for your own ego, perhaps your venture out of it was misguided.

Let's face it, Alec: The GOP has yet to fill the intellectual vacuum created by the untimely death of Sonny Bono.

You propose letting him run for office. I hope he does. It'll be the best thing that's ever happened to the Democrats.

Love your refreshing directness, Dear.

I, too, realized recently that point, about religious rules being enacted as law just to make easier the task of raising children within that religion.
12:01 AM on 03/09/2009
oh boy! the truth will hurt. there will be a half hour show dedicated to Alec Baldwin in tomorrow's Rush show. more likely telling the usual crowd how out of touch Alec Baldwin is and how the Liberal Propaganda is getting crazy. followed by getting called a pinhead by none other than the legendary Bill O'Reilly. are you up for that Mr.Baldwin? you might want to send an apology letter to Rush before it's too late.
11:00 AM on 03/09/2009
Apology? Everything you listed above reads like the citation accompanying a Badge of Honor to me.
11:53 PM on 03/09/2009
that was sarcasm, my friend.
