Obama vs. Clinton: What Tips the Scales

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Watching some Democrats kick around Mrs. Clinton has grown into a sad spectacle.

Hillary Clinton would make a fine president and I think all reasonable people know that. She would make a better president, offering more constructive policies protecting more Americans, than McCain could ever hope to. Her problem is that Americans, in any given election cycle, can become inflamed with a true passion for change that can only exist in a country like ours. She does not represent that change as well as Mr. Obama does. In spite of her superior capabilities in many areas, Obama would still move into the White House with more foreign policy experience than George Bush had when Bush and his brother stole the election in 2000.

Americans can put up with a lot. After these past eight years, they have proven that they can put up with more than anyone ever imagined. However, that cannot hold forever.

What Mrs. Clinton has that Mr. Obama does not have, Mr. Obama can get. What Mr. Obama has that Mrs. Clinton does not have, she can never get.

Which one is the best hope at defeating McCain, who sounds more like a Bush brother with every passing day?

Whether you love her or hate or, It's time for her to stop. She may fight another day, but this Primary is not hers. If you agree, please sign the new petition at www.youarehurtingtheparty.org .

Timing IS everything! The majority of people in this country have been beaten down and pommeled half to death by seven years of Bush and his failed policies. He has brought the country to it's knees! People are truly DESPERATE for change! They want to change the channel. Clinton would change the channel, but for many, that would be like switching from NBC to ABC. Obama comes off more like HBO, a qualitative shift.

Democrats are vulnerable to a certain degree; their desire for real change may blind them to seeing things realistically. Is it unrealistic to believe that Obama can deliver on his promise to "unite" the nation, to sit down and peaceably negotiate with those who represent the opposite side? It is a noble mandate, but is it really feasible?

Timing is everything.

I think if Hillary had run 4 years ago she likely could have won - the country was looking for someone with experience and wanted someone with a firm grasp of the issues.

But now many people look they are just plain done with "experienced" people - and want to take a bit more of a chance on someone new who might be able to do something that the old guard can't do.

Sometimes you have to take risk if you want to move forward - without it - we have no real chance.

I agree completely rh654..
The one thing that appeals "the Most" to about Obama is his "Lack of Experience in Congress".

We have seen clearly what "Experience" can do with the present administration and how one can work a system totally corrupt for an elite few!

I'm trying really hard to hold onto my deep respect and admiration for the Clintons. I will still vote for her is she is the nominee. But she is making it more and more difficult lately. I am very surprised at how off the mark her campaign has been run. I would have expected a lot more from her and her Elite Political Team.

I'm sorry to see you're being taken in by the media anti Hillary campaign. Try running a campaign where your message is being continually skewed and corrupted by the media.

Have you ever wondered why the media and the Republicans went on a 'We love Obama" media blitz? Isn't there something very wrong and sinister with that picture?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:26 PM on 02/25/2008

Interesting. It wasn't so very long ago that many Dems insisted that the Republicans and the media wanted Hillary to be the candidate because the Repubs knew they could beat Hillary. Now that bully media is responsible for her trailing numbers?

So, according to Didi47, anyone supporting Obama has been "taken in by the media anti Hillary campaign"? Are you suggesting, Didi47, that only Hillary supporters have the ability to think for themselves and that Obama supporters have all been totally dumbed down by the media?

Like other commenters, I've been turned off by the shrill Ann Coulter-ish harpy comments coming out of Hillary lately. It's not working for her and she needs to knock it off immediately if she plans to knock it out of the park in Ohio and Texas.

"He thought that there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush and eight years later I think people realize that Ralph did not know what he was talking about," Obama added.

That's my President, reacting to Nader's announcment. Sounds like he knows whereof he speaks...

I totally disagree with the statement that Shrillary has superior capabilities. This indicates to me that you have not studied Barack's background. The idea that she has more experience is a myth. First Lady is not experience that qualifies her for the Presidency. Take a deep breath and do your homework, Alec.

It is a sad spectacle to denigrate Hillary Clinton; and the media is especially guilty of the sexist and chauvinisitc innuendos and remarks.

Having said that, Hillary's campaign has been aggresssively attacking Obama from the early days of last year (!) with the leaked memos about Obama.THis continued negativity has served to contrast her campaign with Obama's uplifitng campaign and she in fact is the looser in the comparison.

Secondly, while her policies are not markedly different than Obama's (they are really shades of gray, for distinct differences let's look at Kucinich) she made a fatal error in voting for the Iraq invasion. Even in the fateful days leading up to that "shock and awe" day in March 2003, we (thinking Americans) could see the charade in this Administration's pretense by going to the UN to present war as a "last resort". The lies were transparent, our protest of this war was massive and vocal and regionally in Brooklyn she would not meet with her constituents to hear why we oppposed the war.

To be revisionist now and say that Bush "misled" her is absurd.IF she is that gullible she shouldn't be POTUS; however she isn't gullible. She is one of our brightest political figures and simply has a coprporatist agenda.

What aggressive attacks are you talking about? Every time I've heard a question be asked about Obama it gets shoved under the table, and is replaced by accusations that he's being 'unfairly attacked'. The questions themselves are NEVER addressed, discussed or made public again.

What on earth is that about? It seems to be just fine to rip Hillary to shreds... but God forbid anybody ask anything about Obama. This is scary! The guy needs to be scrutinized even harder than Hillary because no one really knows what he's about other than, he's good looking and is a wonderful speaker.

Come on, this hysterical adoration of a 'mythical media made - presidential pop star' belongs in the movies. What is wrong with scrutinizing him VERY CAREFULLY?? It's not an attack... If it is... then people better stop the battering they're heaping on Hillary, big time and they owe her one hell of an apology!

I really don't agree that Hillary Clinton would make a fine president. She supported the Iraq invasion -- and that's all you need to know about her and her judgment.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:27 PM on 02/24/2008

Hillary was one of many who voted to permit Bush to invade Iraq. It seemed the wiser choice at the time. Obama didn't vote that way, which worries me. He didn't know for sure that there were no WMD. If he suspected that there weren't and he had been wrong, there could have been devastating consequences. In my opinion, he was foolish to take such a chance.

Unless you can tell me that Obama is psychic (and I know that some of the kool-aid drinkers probably think he is!), then I am much more concerned with the way he voted than the way Hillary voted. I will feel far more safe and far better represented with Hillary as the Democratic nominee and ultimately our next President.

I am sorry but who is drinking the kool-aid?
After all the lives that have been lost, the billions wasted and so many of the lies have been exposed, how can you take that stance?
There were plenty of us that knew this war was going to be a disaster. We saw through the president's pathetic fear-mongering sales pitch. We tried to speak up and were ignored.
Please don't try to continue to provide cover for president Bush.

"He didn't know for sure that there were no WMD." What an astonishingly idiotic defense of Hillary and equivalently idiotic indictment of Obama.

You know, there were a few mainstream reporters like from Knight-Ridder who actually figured out that the WMD issue was bogus. But perhaps you would have liked it if they had kept their yaps shut and just assumed the worst.

Debbie, did you realize that a secret anti-American cult is storing 2 to 3 thousand nuclear warheads and 5000 tons of nerve gas on the south island of New Zealand? Now, Debbie, I can't give you definitive proof (national security, you know -- sources and methods!!) but I am depending on you to elect the candidate who will invade New Zealand and save our country from certain destruction.

It's change all right. The hate-filled attitudes of the religious right are now expressed in so-called "new" Democrats.

I suppose they will eventually run the course, just as the Religious Right has.

Until then, the Democratic party has changed into something that is vastly unappealling to most normal Americans. Who would join the hate wagon?

Not me.

The Clintons are the hate-mongers. They personally attack opponents and their supporters all the time. They have mastered the politics of personal destruction created by Atwater. Look at the way HRC refuses to acknowledge defeats and marginalizes supporters of Obama abd even Edwards.

Furthermore, rather than answer charges, she denies or changes the subject. She has yet to explain why her tax returns and healthcare reform minutes aren't public. She has yet to answer the question of her vote for the Iraq War. She has yet to detail any experience she garnered in the Rose Law Firm or as Bill's wife when he was Arkansas Attorney General or as Arkansas' First Lady.

Because of Clinton campaign lies and calling me delusional and now making all the people who go to obama rallies , instead of listening to uplifting speeches and now to listen to long policy manuals which all of us college educated and yound and old had all read. But the low income blue workers never could. So carryinng bitterness and literal hatred for the clintons into the next few months WE wont HAVE TO SIT AT HOME AGAINT HILLARY, WE CAN SHOW HOW MANY MORE VOTES OBAMA COULD HAVE GOTTEN BY VOTING FOR NADER

I suspect that if Obama wasn't running, the so-called "media bias" might be focused on Hillary instead, in which case you have to ask yourself, if the media is "supposed" to report on the news and give people what they want to see, is it possible they're doing that? it's not unreasonable to say either that Obama is the bigger phenomenon, having been the underdog that overtook a formidable opponent without her political machinery and connections. Indeed, Obama is a phenomenon like few we've seen, with the kinds of crowds he attracts and millions he's out-raised his opponents (again, without the established political machine). It's only natural that some might be skeptical, saying "what do we really know about the guy", "he's all talk and no proven record", etc. But in the end, it's all about what he represents, the collective desire for positive change, more than who he is himself; Obama knows this and says so. It's taken an exceptionally bad president for some exceptionally good people to step forth, but it might've been what it took all along. Hillary would indeed make a fine president but I believe Obama can be an exceptionally great president. In the end, though, these are only people who make mistakes and can't change anything by themselves. We have to do that together, and the change begins with changed attitudes and perspectives about the way things are. In politics and in life...

Here's part of my viewpoint:

Patriotism from AP article this morning:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23315711

Now, if someone doesn't place his or her hand over their hearts maybe it means that they don't know it's the LAW not just tradition:

"During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. -- United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171"

But here we are NOT talking about just your average everday citizen but a SITTING UNITED STATES SENATOR who ought to know better

RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!

This should make anyone wonder?

This is just plain silly stupid!

My gosh if one of his aides didn't kick him in the shins some time ago and read him the riot act at least his wife should have?

And this man wants to be MY PRESIDENT?

Hogwash squared and cubed!

E-mail to send to Texas Republicans
Sat, 02/16/2008 - 10:49pm -- afnighthawk

http://republicansforobama.org/?q=node/3 59
Attention All Texas Republicans and Independents!!

On March 4th, Texas Republicans and Independents will have an opportunity to end Hillary Clinton's (and Bill's) presidential ambitions once and for all!

Since Texas has on open primary, Republicans and Independents should sign in at their polling place and request a Democratic ballot. They should then vote for Barack Obama. Even James Carville admits that if Hillary loses Texas, "she's done!" Republicans can help make this a reality!!! Just think, no more Clintons in the White House!

Voting Democratic this one time will have NO effect on your ability to vote in the next Republican primary or obviously on your vote in November. Since John McCain has the Republican nomination locked up, voting for McCain or Huckabee at this point will have no effect on the outcome on the Republican side.

After you vote during early voting or on March 4th, you ARE NOT done! Report back to your regular polling place at 7PM on March 4th to sign the Barack Obama list for caucus delegates. In a little known Texas voting quirk, 67 delegates to the Democratic convention will be seated because of these caucuses. This is a full one-third of the total number of Texas delegates. For Hillary to lose, she has to lose the primary votes AND the caucus votes.

I urge you to vote against Hillary Clinton by voting for Barack Obama. Please forward this e-mail to all your Texas Republican and Independent friends so that we can help ensure the Clinton's defeat on March 4th!!!

If the Obama campaign authored this email, then someone from Texas needs to explain something to them. When a "Republican" votes in the Democratic primary, if there is a Republican runoff ("the next Republican primary")the voter will not be allowed to vote in the Republican runoff because it is noted in the records that this person voted in the Democratic primary and is not a Republican.

But I am sure that most Republicans and Democrats in Texas know that.

The Supreme Court ruled that no one can be forced to do this in regard to the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem.

As to it not being patriotic, look at it from a black person's p.o.v.. What has the US really bdone for them, as opposed to what it has done to them. Slavery, black codes, sharecropping, JIm Crow, Grandfather Laws, the Scottsboro Boys, Emmett Till, the treatment of Jack Johnson and Joe Louis, the failure of the giovernment to rebuild South Central LA or N.O.. Those are just some of the indignities heeped upon black people. If you or your family had suffered this way, then I doubt you would find the National Anthem as moving.

IT'S THE WAR STUPID!!!

Hillary thought she could win over middle America (Iowa, Kansas, Utah, Missouri, Wisconsin and a bunch of other states) with the hawkish Liebermanesk rhetoric that has consistently produced results for her from the more right leaning part of the Democratic party. She clearly underestimated her own party's distaste for endless war with all its human and financial implications, the politics of fear, and the erosion of individual rights. She made no effort to distance herself from the "politics of personal destruction" that she and her husband used to constantly whine about. Instead, she has supported and engaged in this crap - same old same old garbage we've been seeing for the past 16 years. Is it any wonder why she's lost the last 10 primary contests in a row?

Hillary is trying to frame the next debate around her fake indignation at Obama telling the truth about her. The same truth went right by her at the debate in Austin.
She'd like another shot, please.
And let's discuss the fact that she hadn't yet ridden Bill's record into the Senate when NAFTA was passed.
And let's consider her tenderness in those sweet photo-ops with soldiers wounded in a war.

ANYTHING to keep away us from her record of voting for that war she says she opposed. (Like she opposed BAFTA?) Oh, and you shouldn't mention that vote when she is crying over her tenderness and those wounded soldiers.

Anything so she isn't asked to explain her vote on Kyl-Lieberman. Anything anything anything

Just not her record.
