Three Random Things

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

I saw Sean Penn's film, INTO THE WILD, this weekend. Hope you all had
the chance to see it on the big screen, as well. Give Emile Hirsch the Jim Caviezel Award for the greatest suffering on film. I have not seen an actor put through this much in quite a while. Good job by Sean and Co.

Also, give Ryan Gosling the Ryan Gosling Award for being such an unbelievable film actor. I saw LARS AND THE REAL GIRL this weekend, too. Gosling is one of the few leading men in movies who could pull this role off. He was phenomenal in HALF NELSON and he is remarkable here.

Man, I keep thinking about how I shot my mouth off with all the things I have said about this administration. All the things that all of their opponents have said. What liars, whores and thieves
these people are. Then, I get uptight when I watch even a snippet of these debates. Is leadership there? Is greatness there? Is the end of the war there? Up on that stage?

I miss my make-up artist, Stacey Panepinto. I miss my hairstylist, Richard Esposito. I miss all of the 30 ROCK cast and crew, who I don't see anymore because of this motherfucking, motherfucking, motherfucking strike.

As for the debates, the lust for power is there. That is all that is there.

Oh Alec!! I was wondering how long it would take this typically nerve disturbing poignant actor/activist to come unglued. Last weeks blog on the subject (see What The Writers Strike is Costing Us) was thoughtful, contemplative and little sad. It is so understandable. This is an actor’s actor who lives to work and has snubbed large studio dirigible films for the path less traveled acting in films some of which the average person has probably never heard of just to work. As an actor he absolutely my hero. And for those of you who don’t know he has an enormous amount of respect for writers and has said so in nearly every interview he’s ever done on the business. I’m actually shocked at Alec’s restraint because for the first time in 25 years he can’t work. He’s obligated to the NBC so he can’t take a film. Stuck and bored and aggravated.

Me, I’m a struggling actor but I finally got cast in a small but recurring role on another NBC Series. Yeah! But Monday will be my last day of filming and probably my last day period. Hiatus Terminus or the Hiatus that Never Ended. Well it was nice while it lasted. One minute I want to cry the next I want to kick the neighbor’s cat! (Not really, my neighbors don’t have a cat) Oh, this motherfucking strike indeed!!! But I hope the writers get what they want. Don’t be surprised if some shows that you’ve enjoyed this fall season new and old will be gone forever as a result of lost momentum due to this strike.

One thing I don’t think we think about enough is all the people behind the scenes that make a project work. I hope if we learn something from all this it’s to appreciate the people that we never see. The people that make it possible for actors to act and others to be entertained. Thank you.

So come on back down to Austin Alec and we’ll throw down with our newly found and unwanted free time.

Alec...what about Ron Paul? I know he is definitely NOT part of the Biz Glitterati, but the man speaks TRUTH TO POWER!!! I have always liked you, Alec, for your willingness to speak your mind and damn the consequences. Ron Paul is someone who also speaks his mind and is consistent in his love for his family, community and country. He believes in the Constitution AND the Bill of Rights and puts his money and mouth where his heart and mind are. We need YOU, Alec Baldwin, to join and support our movement to put a man in the WhiteHouse who, although we may not all support all his ideas, we KNOW he loves this country and the Constitutional principles it was founded on. Let's face it, Alec, the so-called "front-runners" have sold out to either BigBiz (the corporations) or are enthralled with the power of BigNanny (government), and are just trying to buy our votes to further their agendas, no matter how well-intentioned.

Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who believes that each and every one of us has the God-given RIGHT to make our own decisions and be responsible for the consequences without interference from princes or priests. Help us restore government to the Constitutional principles of liberty and freedom.

If you miss your shows, put pressure on the OWNERS.

The writers are in the right on this one.

Writers' strike shows in the above post.

But I kid the good Mr. Baldwin, as Bill Maher might say.

Keep up the good works.

I was just in the wild a bit myself where the White House Tree (non-Festivas) is come from this year, decorated by the residents of Bennington, Vermont from the ho, ho, ho, Green Mountain National Forest, also celebrating it's 75th anniversary, a tradition it's said started in the 1840s by German immigrants in Brooklyn, NY. I recall last years arguments over the "tree" and wish President Bush had not cut down the last original tree on the White House grounds, because a squirrel was bothering him in the Oval Office, probably got fixated on it and VP wound-be "Lon" Cheney had it removed. Paramount's "Miracle Man" (Lon Chaney) comes to mind, at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier recently re-interred with another as DNA showed who the former unknown was, this year attended by the just recently called for impeachment VP, on Veterans Day, while POTUS GWB was in Waco, Texas. There's a Cheney Island off the archipelago of Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy in Canada and some of the residents trace their family to the current VP. The legislation to impeach VP Cheney, I watched dramatically unfold in the US Congress on C-Span before Veterans Day. Wish we could see the voting "board" there also we could see who changed all their votes to make it happen. Mr. Lamb has lamented on C-Span it's not up to them Congress has it's own TV directors.
Anyway, one thing I heard up in the only windfarm on Federal forest land, was that the statistical "withches" have it Bush/Huckabee vs. Clinton/Clark (first in his class at West Point Academy, General Wesley Clark) and thought I'd share what I heard in Bennington, Vermont, with the "Baby Boom".

As someone who's looking on at the strike from half way across the world, and with my humble experience in dot com, content creation and consumption - I keep wondering what the hell happened to common sense?!

Note to the stubborn: Change is inevitable. Adjust your attitudes, start talking, and while you're at it remind yourselves how to think! Of course there's a new win-win-win formula somewhere on the horizon for you all, but you got to be willing to seek it. It's about dollars & sense! Everything changes. Minimize the damage, refind common sense, and embrace a new solution out of this strike.

On a positive note and over the past couple of months, while living in lovely Jordan (a country with an industry at its infancy), my filmmaking partner and I met a young emerging American screenwriter, hired him on a project we're developing and we all couldn't be happier working together and living a few blocks away from each other in Amman. Had it not been for the strike, I'm not sure our American screenwriting pal would be so attracted to live with us in Jordan right now! It's a fantastic opportunity for him and an amazing opportunity for us at the exact time we needed this solution! win-win. Thanks strike!

Sean Penn's INTO THE WILD is indeed a fantastic film Alec! But I think that of all of Penn's films. He cleverly offers us his stories in that comfortable form we are drawn to, and once he's got us, he shakes our soul. Something life should learn from perhaps...

I saw Into the Wild this evening. It was fabulous. Everyone should go see it.

While I do understand and support the writers who are striking, boy, I sure do miss my shows.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Biden and Richardson or Richardson and Biden.
They are the only two adults up there with the experience to guide us out of this mess.
The others have "potential". Not enough for the job at hand. I'm tired of CNN and FOX NEWS choosing which candidates we should follow.
Biden and Richardson is a Democratic dream team. Let's make the dream a reality.
Go donate your $$$ now. Halliburtons going to try to buy the goverment that best represents them, shouldn't we at least have the cojones to do the same?

I am an insomniac, and the debates are the best sleeping pill ever. I want to scream at the tv. "Cut the Crap" just before I fall asleep. I know who the frontrunners are, I know their "positions" what I don't know is Why any of them want to be president. Maybe the fault lies with the moderators, could we please find one who doesn't think its about him or her?
Could the governor of Georgia please pray for Al Gore to change his mind? oh darn I just remembered, Georgia is just taking Florida's water..those mcmansions need to keep their fake waterfalls running.Silly me.

Alec,

The writers are right to strike and I'm glad that most celebrities that know they would be nowhere without these writers are standing with them. It sucks but it's necessary. There would be no phenomenal acting performances by Ryan Gosling without them.

The first unionists of this nation lost their lives fighting to organize for fair wages and safe work environments. To this day workers all over this globe are murdered by hired guns of corporations battling to keep wages down, and to steal and pollute their land.

I understand you miss your friends from your show but I imagine if you didn't act another day in your life you'd still live a thousand times more comfortably than any average American worker and most of the writers in Hollywood or New York.

If you think a strike is painful for you just imagine what it was like for the families of those workers at the Chiquita plantations whose union leaders were gun-down by company hired guerillas. Put yourself in the shoes of a guy working at the Ford Plant in Lorain, Ohio laid off at the age of 50 with a kid or two in college and a mortgage forced to take a job making 9 bucks an hour.

Nothing good ever comes easy, if these writers succeed it is a victory for every American worker.

Look past the "MSM stars" Clinton, Obama, Edwards. Who says they are the "front runners"? Joe Biden is the real deal. A strong and experienced leader with the integrity to pull our country back from the depths we have fallen.
