Alejandro García Padilla is the governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

García Padilla was born Aug. 3, 1971, in Coamo, Puerto Rico. He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor's degree in political science and economics and has a juris doctor from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Before entering politics he practiced law, taught law at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and was a member of the board of the Puerto Rico Bar Association. In 2001 he married Wilma Pastrana. They have three children: Ana, Juan Pablo and Diego.

García Padilla was elected governor after serving a term as a senator in the 24th Senate of Puerto Rico from 2009 to 2013. From 2005 to 2009 he was Secretary of Consumer Affairs under Gov. Aníbal Acevedo Vilá. He heads the Popular Democratic Party and is a member of the Democratic Party of the United States.
