Hot Girls Hunt for Ghosts

Posted: 09/01/11 04:43 PM ET

The Travel Channel has a new ghost hunting challenge reality show that recently featured girl ghost hunting groups who claim to be "hot." Although many scientists argue that there is no evidence for the existence of ghosts, the experts who have taken a look at the photographic evidence below do find the girls' claims of hotness very compelling.

Paranormal Challenge is a spin-off of the Travel Channel's popular ghost hunting program, Ghost Adventures. Ghost Adventures star, Zak Bagans, hosts Paranormal Challenge which pits two teams of paranormal investigators against each other to find out who has the best ghost hunting skills. A panel of paranormal experts, including Bagans, judges the competition.

The first all girl group to appear on the show was Paranormal Xpeditions who describe themselves as the hottest female paranormal investigators. Their website says they are, "Three brave, sexy girls out to prove or disprove the phenomena of the paranormal." On their episode of Paranormal Challenge, they investigated the Rolling Hills Asylum, a building in East Bethany, New York which once housed lunatics and other people in difficult situations. It has a history of haunting and is now a paranormal training center.

The second group call themselves the Paranormal Hot Squad, a team of models and actresses. Their website says they "film sexy sleepovers in the scariest and most haunted locations." Their challenge was held at the La Purisima Mission in California. La Purisima is the state's most extensively restored mission, and was founded in 1787. It was once home to the Chumash people and Spanish settlers.

Each of the groups has allowed me to use their pictures so you can decide which ghost hunter girl group is the hottest.

Here's what I think. It shows a level of desperation on the part of the producers. There are two reasons why they would resort to this tactic. One is, the cheap thrills of a ghost hunting program are not enough to sustain an audience. Let's be real, at their best, these type of shows are third rate horror shows and add nothing to the overall evidence of paranormal reality. Turn the show into a sexy funhouse, and you might get more viewers. The other reason they would resort to this would be that we as the audience have become inured to the existence of the paranormal realm. Contact with ghosts and the paranormal has become some routine, that filmed encounters is no longer enough to draw an audience, so now they have to introduce hotties and a competition format. Of course, this is a less feasible explanation, as any real filmed encounters would draw huge audiences. To be honest, I would much rather see these girls competing on Wipeout.

True. What are your thoughts on the girls in the story? Some of your expert commentary would be appreciated.
