Alex Geana loves writing about fashion, culture and New York.

He put out a book mixing, poetry, photography and short stories called Side Step Me. His first play, Three Tables, was successfully produced in fall 2006. He also freelances, when possible as a slightly snarky blog writer for hire. While taking great pics. For more info.

He has a sensitive eye for the flora and fauna of the Big Apple. As a consummate lover of people and their stories, he is able to bring interest to the most mundane experiences of living. Alex started out life in Romania and came to the States at an early age and has been here ever since. He went to school for luxury hotel management which gave him his eagle eye for people (and food). He is now a confirmed Manhattanite, possessed of a shrewd yet compassionate outsider perspective on contemporary society.

An Editorial LookBook for Lyle Thomas

Posted December 11, 2009 | 12:16 PM (EST)

I'm excited that I was able to do this concept for a new and young designer, in a very challenging location. Titled "The Cool Kids", they've found their way into a vintage Soho loft after a night of clubbing and drinking.

I picked the location to compliment the clothes,...

Posted November 9, 2009 | 02:40 PM (EST)

Dinner theater is making a comeback with a distinctly downtown twist. During the beginning of the last century New Orleans was the center of the opera universe. Duane Park drew inspiration from there for their new Thursday night series, Theatre d'Orleans, serving Crawfish Bisque and Gumbo on a special $33...

Spring Fashion Week sponsored by Mercedes-Benz has come to a close. The palpable excitement I was hoping for was not there. The near brush with celebrity and the sense of discovery -- almost gone. The industry, at times, seemed to clash with its future while dusting off its Victorian...

We're in the middle of Mercedes-Benz Spring Fashion Week. The world has truly turned upside down. For fall, the runways were awash with iridescent and neon. For Spring Fashion we get beige? Too many designers are giving us subdued shades. Alexander Wang does earth tones and Lacoste gives...

At Y-3, the bags, clutches and purses were divine. The shorts were great, and so were the tux-inspired overcoats. The shear shirts -- not so much. Yet there were some strong looks.

In the end, five models came out and pulled the Italian Vogue photographer Bruno Rinaldi out of...

1 Comments | Posted September 9, 2009 | 09:54 AM (EST)

As Mercedes-Benz Spring Fashion week approaches, I'm expecting glitz and glamour -- the industry's almost fevered attempt to divert our attention from the reality of living in this retracted economy. Denim is going to be strung, twisted and reinvented. From the preview sketches sent by a few designers, color...

Gay Pride in New York; 40 Years after Stonewall

Posted June 30, 2009 | 01:12 PM (EST)

I bounced around on Sunday, taking pictures and watching the diversity. Strangely, 40 years after the protests spurned by drag queens, hustlers and the mob, Pride is a stayed affair, and most in the gay community feel it's not needed. We're proud every day. The street is filled with out-of-towners....

In the Land of Punk, Wealth and Cody Ross. Priestess NYC

Posted May 12, 2009 | 11:58 AM (EST)

The night I met Cody Ross, a dog was placed in the microwave. He gleefully stated, "He can go for 52 seconds!" I promptly screamed, ran over and popped him out, onto the floor unharmed. Vice previously mentioned his love for animals; he received death threats from PETA.

The line...

Fashion's Divided

During Fashion Week the stock market searched for bottom, again. Roland Burris was caught in an expected scandal. The BCBG Max Azria Group, which showed three times this week, was downgraded by S&P from "B-minus" to "CCC-plus". A move showing Wall Street does follow fashion.

The week started...

Will You Marry Me?

Posted November 18, 2008 | 02:38 PM (EST)

Something larger then the quest for marriage is swelling the gay ranks. A sort of massive re-think, as we collectively must understand what marriage means to us.

I was morbidly surfing Facebook and came across my ex-bf, with my ex-bf's fag hag (does that make sense?) in the odd scenario...
