Chyron Of The Day: Drunk Driving Is Awesome

Posted July 7, 2009 | 01:40 PM (EST)

Typos are tough in chyrons. Changing a 't' to a 'w' can make a world of difference, like, say, encouraging drunk driving instead of warning against it. Of course if they were skilled chyron writers in the first place this just would've read Authorities: Don't Let Assholes Behind The Wheel.

Bon Jovi Throws Impromptu 4th Of July Concert (AUDIO)

40 Comments | Posted July 4, 2009 | 11:40 PM (EST)

The 4th of July is a hit or miss holiday. I enjoy the parades and free pass to eat nitrates, but I'm kind of over fireworks (so sad) and therefore need another activity for the evening. That, predictably, turned out to be drinking with friends. We...

Don't you just love weird town names? Like all those places in Britain called Olde Craptown and Ur Mumms A Whora? They make chyrons like this possible. A child was abducted by her father in Massachusetts, which happens to have a town called "Sandwich" which happened to be where...

Chyron Of The Day: CNN Takes A Slap At Obama

I don't even know where to start with this one, well actually let's start with the word "at." You can take a swipe at someone or you can slap someone, but to slap AT someone means doing this. Secondly, I don't think "His Slap At Dick Cheney" shows enough...

Chyron Of The Day: A House Derided

11 Comments | Posted June 3, 2009 | 03:55 PM (EST)

Oh, I get it. Whereas an "Economic Alert" tells you something incendiary and untrue about the economy on Fox News, an "Ecoonomic Alert" tells you something true but completely stupid.

Tim Geithner, like many Americans, is selling his home and unable to find a buyer in a bad...

Chyron Of The Day: Hold The Phone

7 Comments | Posted June 2, 2009 | 04:58 PM (EST)

You know those local news reports that let you know you're in imminent danger because of some household item? Or the ones that tell you your neighbor is probably a serial killer? But they can't tell you who why or what until 11:28p? Yeah, those are awesome, and they're no...

In a horrifying report, detailed in the "New York Times" today, we learned that tens of thousands of poor Irish children, taken into the care of religious institutions, were sexually, physically and emotionally abused by priests, nuns and other care-takers. As a baptized Catholic, who thinks the Church...

Alan Alda, the Academy Award-nominated, Emmy award-winning actor, director, screenwriter, hasn't yet discovered that he's too big a star to be talking to me (thank god) and keeps granting us interviews. On this occasion, we were curious what his time on the set of "30 Rock" has been like, and...

The Dos and Don'ts of Job Interviews

10 Comments | Posted April 21, 2009 | 11:03 AM (EST)

Going on a job interview is like going on the worst first date ever. You have to be able to answer questions without revealing anything bad about yourself, while insuring your doubletalk sounds sincere. (It's unlike a first date in that you cannot expect sex at the end, unless you...

I'm a little embarrassed to love this show as much as I do, but I can't help myself: The "Real Housewives of New York City" is mesmerizing. Just look at how much news they generate: one of them got dumped by her royal husband, one of them beat...

Now I know I'm jumping the gun here because Four Christmases hasn't opened yet and any movie that combines the humor of Jon Voight with the understated elegance of Vince Vaughan is sure to be a winner, but I thought I'd risk it and come out with...
