Alice Crisci, founder of My Vision (MYV), a cancer organization for young adults, is a writer, public speaker, fertility preservation spokeswoman and entrepreneur. My Vision partners with patients (18-45) in protecting their future and inspiring their today. Specifically, My Vision funds fertility preservation scholarships for men and women who have to undergo surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and other cancer treatments that could leave them permanently infertile. MYV also offers women who are scheduled for body-altering surgery private photography sessions as a mechanism for them to celebrate their past while helping to transition their mind, body and spirit through their cancer journey.

On February 27, 2008, Alice was the youngest of four generations to have been diagnosed with cancer. Within the first five weeks of her diagnosis, she harvested eggs to preserve her future as a mom, had a nude photo shoot to remember the body she was born with, wrote a free vignette for other young adult cancer patients and launched the foundation. On the day of her double mastectomy, the Huffington Post approved her as a featured columnist in the progressive online magazine’s Living section. She has been recognized by the American Society of Plastic Surgery as a Patient of Courage, by Assembly member Ted W. Lieu for her Courage and has been featured and quoted in numerous newspapers and magazines.

Prior to cancer, Alice founded Beeline Global, Inc, a boutique consultancy that builds scalability within entrepreneurial companies. She builds visionary leaders from the top down while building infrastructure from the bottom up. Her methodology has been implemented by respected clients such as Strategic Counsel (headed by Cynthia McClain-Hill, President of N.A.W.B.O) and DualStar Entertainment (headed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), and The Beanstalk Group, headed by Michael Stone, a pioneer in the licensing industry, to name a few.

Alice confronted cancer with the same drive and energy she uses to catalyze growth in companies that hire her as a consultant and facilitator. She is known to her clients as their Sherpa and now also to the young adult cancer community. Alice lives in Redondo Beach, CA with her two dogs and a cat: a Shih Tzu named Zaney, a Lhasa Apsa named Zan and an outdoor tabby cat known to his “street” friends as Big Slick. She loves dancing, reading, watching cheesy television shows, exploring personal growth, playing with her dogs and six nephews and above all else making a difference in the world.

The Value of Life

I'm 32-years-old and I didn't know I had breast tissue all the way up to my collarbone. I received a great education, graduated college and excelled in my career. I thought I knew my body well - in fact, taking care of it was an extreme hobby of mine. But,...

On December 27, 2008 I moved from my first home in Redondo Beach, CA to someone else's home in Malibu.

My friend Grace told me she thought I was running away. I knew she was right, but instead of owning up to it, I wondered aloud if I would...

I moved to California when I was just 23 years old. I thought I was an adult then; how ironic that since having breast cancer I feel more like a child now than a grown-up. Sometimes, I even hear my voice sounding light and whimsical, much like a young girl...

It's been months since I've written a new column. I could say that I had writer's block, but that would be a lie. Words are constantly showing up in my mind; words that often don't feel like they belong to me. Since I was a young girl, words, sentences, poems,...

Too Young For This: Patient of Courage Nomination

A few weeks ago, I received starling news. Dr. Lisa Cassileth , my reconstructive surgeon, and her office nominated me for the American Society of Plastic Surgeon's Patient of Courage Award. To say I am stunned, honored and touched would be an understatement.

I've been ruminating for weeks...

Too Young for This: Race for the Cure in Pink

Last Saturday, June 7, 2008 was the Race for the Cure in Washington, DC. My sister, Jacqueline, had organized a team of about 40 people to walk in My Vision Foundation t-shirts behind a beautiful banner that listed me and my mother first as breast cancer survivors. Even most...

Too Young For This: Launching a Breast Cancer Foundation

The day I write this blog marks the four-week anniversary of my double mastectomy. Instead of recounting the trials I have encountered while healing over these last four weeks, I am reflecting on the fourth day leading up to my surgery. That day was the most alive and present I...

Too Young for This: Sperm Shopping From A Catalogue

Early on in my breast cancer diagnosis, I learned cancer treatments can cause infertility. Chemotherapy can throw a young woman into a permanent state of menopause, subsequently causing infertility. Tamoxifen, an oral tablet usually prescribed for five years for those with an estrogen sensitive cancer (meaning estrogen causes your...
