Are You On the Obama Or McCain Campaign's Email List?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

OffTheBus writer Diane Tucker sent me this email today:

"On Saturday night I received emails from both McCain and Obama -- each asking me to "get to work" on their behalf. What's interesting is how different their approaches were, at least in Virginia. McCain wants me to make a gazillion phone calls; he'll provide the list (which I hear is superb). Obama wants me to get in my car and visit folks in person (which sounds like a lot of work to me). I'm wondering whether others at OTB noticed the same 180-degree difference in end-game strategies between the two camps."

Would you share with HuffPost's OffTheBus what the Obama and McCain campaigns emailed you over the weekend and yesterday, Monday Oct. 27? We would like to do a story comparing and contrasting their end-game strategies in states around the country. Everyone who contributes will be included in the story byline.

Report back to us here on what the campaigns have asked of you (Survey Monkey form).

All you need to do is open up your email inbox and reread campaign emails from the past four days. Then report back to us here on what exactly you're being asked to do. Make sure you note the date and exact request.

Why doesn't McCain just continue using the robo-calls?

I still keep getting emails from John Kerry, and I really wish he'd stop. I guess I am on some ancient list of old anti-Vietnam activists
Then again, my best friend gets e-mail harangues from Fidel Castro in Spanish.

If I could walk anymore, I would walk for Obama until I dropped.
If I could only walk.

I live in Killeen, Texas. This is the first time I've followed a campaign from Primaries to finish. I have voted early(Obama/Biden). This will be my son's first chance to vote. He's 19. I get daily e-mails from several sources within the Obama camp, including Michelle and Barrack. Also Mr. Biden. I feel as though I'm a part of "the process". I have taken ownership. This contact has made a great impression on me. I am a 45 year old retired army vet. Go Team Obama!... We are moments away from history. Civil rights movement to this great day in America. I have always been, but today I'm more proud than ever to be "American"!

I live in Virgina and get many emails from the Obama camp. I have raised money, canvassed, registered voters, donated equipment and food to local headquarters, made phone calls to assure that voters can get to the polls, raised almost $500. for Obama, attended 3 rallies, wear buttons/ tee shirts, and have a bumper sticker on my car. In addition, I have voted early and saw to it that my 93 year old dad has done the same. This is all a first for me, and I have been a registered voter since 1964. My efforts are a direct result of being contacted by the Obama team on a regular basis!

I have received 2 "benign" robocalls from McCain, and nothing more.

I received an email from the Doug Holtz-Eakin of McCain campaign on October 28, 2008, claiming that the Obama campaign is lying about his healthcare plan. Doug invited me to read the "fact sheet" that followed. An interesting omission in the "fact sheet:" McCain's plan to tax employer health care benefits.

Now, if Doug claims that this is a "fact sheet," why was this important fact omitted? They would not be trying to mislead their own voters, now would they?

Not only is this "raising taxes," it is instituting a completely NEW tax on working families. The Republican claim to be the party of family values must mean that they want to TAKE value AWAY from families!

Yeah! That's the ticket.

I also note for the first time a hyphenated last name from a Republican. Women NEVER have hyphenated last names in Republican-land. I suppose that this would be considered an evil feminist thing to have. Now, we have a MAN with a hyphenated last name. Most peculiar, mama!

I got an email earlier in the week from the McCain campaign from someone named Christian Ferry. Was that some kind of code? Wink, wink, it's ok to be a fairy in Republican-land if you spell it wrong and you don't ask or tell?

I am in Ohio, and get emails from MoveOn as well as the Obama campaign, mostly asking me to "volunteer for a shift" at an office I cannot reach by bus. I can't do it.I sure don't know who the "undecided" folks are; folks seem passionate for McCain or Obama; I haven't even heard, "I don't know yet."
I was on the fringes of the crowd when Obama visited 2-1/2 weeks ago, saw Michelle Obama speak and shook her hand last Friday, and attended the Springsteen Obama Rally at Ohio State University. Best I can do in addition to a pitifully small donation. I got an Obama-Biden sign from a friend cuz my yard is on a heavily trafficked main drag.
I have had someone come to my door; banging like the cops and nearly giving me a heart attack, just as it was getting dark; she asked for some guy, then found my name in her PDA, and halfheartedly asked me to vote for a Democratic Congressional candidate and Obama. I don't want to make matters worse for Obama, so won't attempt door to door or phone contact. I think enthusiasm is fine, browbeating and trying to shame people into doing things they are not suited for is not okay.

I get at least 2 emails from Obama per day now. Most are asking me to drive to Iowa or, most recently, Indiana (I'm from Chicago). Naturally all these emails also ask me to make a donation. I also received an email today asking if I would like to attend his Election Day rally in Chicago. I've also received invitations to see him speak in Indianapolis twice.

I've been volunteering for the Obama Campaign for about 2 months now. I get LOTS of emails from everybody in the campaign, as well as MoveOn.Org. I also get notices when Barack, Joe, Michelle or Jill come to town. Our volunteers are led by a very dedicated, capable young man, who I swear works 7 days a week. I've been doing a lot of canvassing lately, and I have done some phone banking too. The emphasis is on canvassing - I'm in Florida. On Tuesday I'm making my famous chili for our team - it's going to be a busy, and hopefully fantastic day!!

Oh, I almost forgot. I used to be a Republican, and whenever I get mail from John McCain asking for a donation I send it back to him telling him sorry, I've given all my extra money to Barack Obama!!

I am on the Obama list and have done all they have asked of me. Was delegate at the County and State level for Obama. I've registered voters. I've worked at the Obama Hdqtrs. I've email friends.
And I voted last week for Obama. When I got home from voting, I received a call from the McCain campaign and I explained that they were toooo late, already voted for Obama and Jill Derby. Bet I won't get any more calls from them.

On my personaI e-mail account, I signed up for Obama, MoveOn, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, International Campaign for Tibet (which weighs ALL the candidates), MIchael Moore and others who support Obama, and get about 7 mails a day from them, about 2-3 from Obama/Biden daily. Obama wants local help in the way of canvassing and volunteering here in the State of Washington. If I wasn't flying to Chicago on election day I would be volunteering to drive the elderly to the polls. I've already voted absentee. I am looking forward to a big party in Chicago starting the night of the 7th - yes counting chickens already. It's just GOT TO BE!

On my business account, I don't know why, but I was getting mail from the RNC every day and I admit I was replying with words I would never say to any person to their face and won't report here. I finally stopped replying because it didn't get me off their list, so I simply unsubscribed, and if I get anything now it winds up in the JUNK bin and I don't have to see it anymore, so I can't tell you what they are asking me to do.

The people I talk to here in Texas all agree that the DNC and Obama campaigns are passing up a golden opportunity to turn Texas around. With all the money Obama has garnered to date, some of it would be well spent on a visit from Obama and Biden to this state in addition to some well placed commercials or ads.. Our gov. barely won the last election with less than a majority vote and many people here see Sen. Cornyn as no more than a mouthpiece for Pres. Bush for the last eight years. indeed, his record of support George Bush is even better than Sen. McCain's.

Absolutely! Many of us here are working hard trying to Turn Texas Back to Blue ... all help would be appreciated!

Since I am in a battleground state, Colorado, I signed up a long time ago for emails from Obama and get on average 4-5 per day asking me to donate, make phone calls, canvass neighborhoods, etc. All spare time I have I give to Obama. What surprises me is that no one has ever come to my door and inquired about my choice. I have never received flyers on my door. I think that is odd for a state that could go either way, no one is pounding the pavement in my neighborhood.

2 weeks ago, out of the blue, I got an email from McCain and when I tried to unsubscribe, I thought I was going to have to get an act of congress to do it. I still don't know if I am off their list, haven't gotten an email from McCain since last Sautrday.

They may be pounding the pavement - just not knocking on YOUR door. My guess is they know who you are and what your views are so they don't waste resources on you. I've been doing phone calls and GOTV canvassing and it's not door-to-door.

I have to agree...I used to get Obama people coming to my house (NH) during the primaries Ever since I donated $200 to his campaign, no one has come to see me. I think they figure my vote is safe (which it is). I do get phone calls asking me to volunteer.

I have only been e mailed by the Obama camp. They have asked me to call, drive, and canvas for them which I have done. I was glad to do anything I can to get this wonderful candidate elected.
