Why (I Think) I Love Henry Paulson....

You might think I'm writing this because I bashed John Snow so many times that I'm afraid I'm going to be audited (and I'm trying to get on somebody's good side), but you'd be wrong,..

Here are the reasons why I think I love Henry Paulson.

Because, as the head of Goldman Sachs, his job was to make money for other people.

Because he was a major stabilizing force, as were others at Goldman Sachs, immediately post-911, unflappable, sleep-deprived, dynamic, and many on Wall Street credit them and others with averting a major, catastrophic economic downfall. Yes, it was bad but it could have been a lot worse.

He's the Chairman of the Board of the Nature Conservancy -- I hope he's not resigning. He watches birds. It's one of his favorite things to do, watch birds, not shoot them, and his wife takes people on bird-watching tours in Central Park.

He believes that the U.S. must sign the Kyoto Agreement and he truly does believe in developing alternative energy. (It's stunning, but he actually believes in global warming.)

He understands global markets and he recognizes that the U.S. really is in debt.

He's clearly open-minded as it appears, from her campaign contributions, that his wife may be a Democrat.

He personally donated $100 million dollars in Goldman Sachs stock (I"m not sure how that works, by the way...is that a tax-dodge) to a family foundation dedicated to conservation and environmental education.

And he has that Dick Cheney look, like Bush would actually listen to him.

Look at it this way, if George Bush made a hundred Cabinet mistakes, one time, by mistake, he had to get it right.
