More than 150 people, including some from Alabama, gathered today on the campus of Spelman College to learn more about what they can do to help bolster the presidential campaign of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton in Georgia.
The training, which was lead by members of Hillary Clinton's national campaign staff, began with a pep talk from Georgia Congressman David Scott who recently endorsed Sen. Clinton's candidacy.
"This nation is in need of the sterling leadership of Hillary Clinton," Rep. Scott said. "I am determined to make sure Hillary is the next President of the United States."
Congressman Scott, who was accompanied by state Rep. Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus), told the training attendees that Sen. Clinton asked him to campaign in Iowa for her and also said, "Women are going to be key and we've got a great woman at the top of the ticket."
Alan Stegall, a freshman at the University of Georgia, said he left Athens at 6:30a.m. and also sold his ticket to the UGA/Auburn football game because he was "very excited about Clinton being in office."
"She's going to be our president," Stegall said.
Another training participant, Pam Davis, said she traveled from Barrow County because she felt Hillary was an excellent candidate.
"She's not totally left or right," Davis said. "She's in the middle on the issues."
Davis said she was just checking to see what she could do for the Hillary campaign and also mentioned that she was trying to get a Democratic Party organization started in her county.
