(Atlanta, Georgia) - At local Democratic watering hole Manuel's Tavern Thursday evening, nearly 100 supporters gathered to hear more about the effort to deliver Georgia's 104 Democratic National Convention delegates to New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Local campaign volunteer Michael Cantone said, "We want to walk out from the early states with a clear mandate so that we can end the primary as soon as possible and unite the party."
Cantone also said that the Hillary for President national office indicated that were "trying very hard" to open up an official office in Georgia and that the Clintons remembered the importance of the Peach State to former President Clinton's campaign in 1992.
Some of those attending the meeting shared their stories of why they were supporting Sen. Clinton's bid for the White House. Ross Deck, a former White House employee for 16 years, said, "Hillary was the smartest person in the White House for 8 years."
Rebecca Vandiver, an Atlanta attorney and organizer of the event, said, "I'm a strong supporter of women's rights. I support a President who will stand up for women's rights at home and abroad."
Sen. Clinton is in Georgia today for what is being billed as a "major campaign announcement" at Paschal's Restaurant in downtown Atlanta.
