Dr. Sullivan (PhD, University of Pennsylvania, 1976; Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Bastyr University, 1986) is a founding member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the president of the DC Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She is also a member of the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians and the National Center for Homeopathy. She has been practicing in Washington DC for over 20 years. In 2001, Dr. Sullivan was appointed by DC mayor Anthony Williams to the Board of Medicine, and in 2007, Mayor Adrian Fenty appointed her Chairman of the Naturopathic Medical Board for the District of Columbia.

Excerpts from Sullivan’s first book, A Path to Healing: A Guide to Wellness for Body, Mind, and Soul (Doubleday: 1998), appeared in Essence magazine in July of the same year. Essence has also featured her patient care and has interviewed her twice, and she occasionally contributes to the magazine. She is also a contributing writer for Prevention Magazine Health Books, Heart and Soul, and Health Quest.

A frequent guest on radio and major network television, Sullivan travels throughout the country and Canada to lecture on naturopathic medicine and wellness every year.

In 1976, prior to beginning her work in naturopathic medicine, Dr. Sullivan was the first African American to receive a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in sociology and criminology.
