An Eternal Evolutionary Vow

Posted: 02/26/11 09:41 AM ET

I recently returned from a week-long tour in Europe. In the following video from a seminar in London, I speak about my own interpretation of the traditional Bodhisattva vow and how this important spiritual commitment is recontextualized within an evolutionary worldview.

The Chinese water snake is the richest known source of EPA, the starting material the body uses to make the series 3 prostaglandins. These prostaglandins are the biochemical messengers that control some aspects of inflammation, rather like aspirin, which also affects the prostaglandin system. . Salmon oil, the next best source, contains 18% EPA. Rattlesnake oil contains 8.5% EPA.

Why do spirits awaken themselves as butterflies and snakes and dogs if it's a dead end?

If you dont remember anything, what is the point of reincarnation?
If you wake up a snake, you arent going to care, because you're a stupid snake. Everything that is you (memories, personality, ect) is not going to be there, so it seems kind of like...pointless. For all intents and purposes, You, as in Mr Reincarnated, is dead no matter what.

Reincarnation makes no sense, because it wouldnt actually seem to reincanate anything

"Spirit can awaken to itself... as a snake... but it is only going to have snake consciousness."

Instant karma..... it is faster than light.

"WRONG. You can hear this kind of nonsense in any given bar at any place at any time."

this is not nonsense but much of it is wrong teachings. not all of it but much. most bars are full of people looking for something or trying to drink away their inner loneliness.

one must be very very careful of those claiming enlightenment and playing the role of guru. many people need a guru like many people need a book of truth. in some way this bring seekers comfort to think they have found their guru or their book of truth or their religion of all truths.

the same applies to the materialists when one of theirs writes a book they sell a million copies to the faithful. we humans seek to know but not too much, just enough to bring us some kind of comfort.

there is something about the human ego of many that want to be gurus or mystics. beware of anyone claiming either status.

"Very few of us are able to have this sort of conversation" not an exact quote from the questioner but it's enough.

WRONG. You can hear this kind of nonsense in any given bar at any place at any time. If you want to learn to think and talk like this just get about half a fifth of Benchmark into your stomach in about an hour's time and you'll be there; your own enlightenment will astound you.

"It is through the reconstruction of a broken world (Tikkin) that mankind performs the moral acts that instantiate what before creation were only value arch types existing within God. Man by “repairing the world” in a sense completes God"

the world is not broken but it has the appearance of being broken and in need of repair.

all that appears broken can be traced to ignorance. find the origin and even purpose of that ignorance and a whole new world will be revealed to any sincere seeker.

the adam and eve story gives great clues to the origin of this ignorance. we owe our unique and "individualized" identity to our ignorance, ok unawareness. the tree of knowledge is the evolution of the soul defined. likewise the evolution of the soul is the expression of the Absolute manifesting as infinite unique forms of expressions.

Gotta love enlightenment. Regardless of what anybody says, you can say that they're unenlightened for saying it!

I was thinking that very sentence a short while ago. The Synchronicity is spooky.

BTW - I don't want any mix-ups. I need a witness. I choose Nirvana over Eternal Heavy Lifting with no vacation days.

Jewish Theosophy (Kabbalah) includes reincarnation (Gilgul) and is similar in some respects to Cohen's ideas.

Kabbalah posits a transcendence of this material world as a means for relieving the puzzles, contradictions and sufferings of our own. The Kabbalah, however, also posits transcendence in the other direction as well. In creating our material world, Ein-Sof, the infinite completely unknowable God, completes Himself as God.

Indeed in these dual trends in which the corporeal yearn to transcend the wheel of life and death and the spiritual yearns to become actual, which explains both man’s love for this world and his simultaneous desire to escape it. It is only in the process of restoration and reunification of two realms that are complementary realities (and illusions) that the purpose of creation is ultimately realized and fulfilled.

It is through the reconstruction of a broken world (Tikkin) that mankind performs the moral acts that instantiate what before creation were only value arch types existing within God. Man by “repairing the world” in a sense completes God. Judaism is this world life affirming. (Paraphrased from Sanford Drob).

The word Kabbalah actually means tradition from the infinitive l'kabel to receive. There is no kabbalah but there is Sefer haKabbalah which is the Talmudic name for the books of the prophets. There is, however, a medieval work also called Kabbalah from the Iberian peninsula that served at that time as a compendium on Jewish mysticism. That mysticism rest on two pillars (i;e., foundations): ma'aser breishit (mystery of creation) and ma'aser hamerkavah (mystery of the chariot -- cosmos). On the one hand

You speak of Gilgul. What enters into this world?

There is the notion as introduced in Mesechta (tractate) Berichot (Blessings) five spiritual components to the individual briefly also mentioned in the mystical treatise called haBahir (The Illumination). They can be visualized in the analogy of a glass blower who sends air into the forming transparent globe to create a vessel. To summarize, they constitute a ray come from the ultimate source into the world. Also this is analogous to the process of construction in human terms. First there is the intuitive flash or incentive to build. And then there is the formulation of the idea of the structure to be built. Following this notion is the back of the envelope calculations and rough drawings of the idea. And then, there is the carefully drawn design in which its details are laid out. Finally, there is the execution of the idea such as a bridge or a building, etc. Here individuality is a movement from inception into this karmic world of activity. However the term Gilgul implies circularity in that the individual thematic thread is collapsible back into its source.

The Bahir Illumination, translation, introduction and commentary Aryeh Kaplan,Samuel Weiser, Inc. 1979.

Mr Richter,

Thank you for your interesting post.

The five components might be understood in the following way:

Chaya (Life) is the primordial ground of being
Yechida (uniqueness) A separation of Chaya into the universal and particular
Neshama (Breath) Entrance of the specificity of Chaya into the world
Ruach (Spirit) Awareness
Nefesh (Soul) the existential condition animated by awareness (the actual life of the individual.

The Gilgul is a circular movement in which the descent from Chaya and the ascent from Nefesh simultaneously occur.

It is analogous to the Or Ein Sof and the four worlds and also to the Eytz Chaim (Sefirotic Tree of Life).

wrong wrong. much of this is wrong teachings. dont believe it.

he is making his theory fit his teachings.

we can affect change in all "spiritual" dimensions even more in other dimensions.

now pain and suffering can cause a soul to advance in love and intelligence and this effects their vibration level and our vibration level determines the dimension we cross over to.

accept no guru as all knowing, one must do their own research.

this guru has done little research into spiritual teachings and communication with other advanced souls from these higher dimensions.

this is religion at its best or worst take your pick.

those selling enlightenment often want something from you. find out what that is. ie $$$$$$$

"this is not the most "exciting" place to be". anyone that teaches exciting place to be is not enlightened. no way. proceed with caution here with these teachings. please.

anyone that teaches we must take life seriously is teaching ignorance. we are expressions of that that is and being serious is ego bound which this teacher is. very ego bound.

no such thing as wasting time. impossible to waste time. the Infinite wastes nothing. it is the ego that thinks in terms of wasting time. if it (experiences) was not needed it would not have occurred. simple teachings that few understand.

The Purpose of Creation and Mission of the Wuniverse is the desire of the Self-Aware Supra-Intelligent Transpersonal Consciousness to return all of the created matter to the light of Consciousness. To accomplish the Mission, eternal commitment of the collective is required. The Wuniverse is inherently democratic in nature. No Nirvana for anybody until it’s Nirvana for every Quantum particle. Againstness is Ego; punishable by exile in the Dog Consciousness Re-education Camps. Inmates are kept busy with some kind of amazing idea.

This week I got into an argument with a Catholic priest and he said I was insane. (Don't be too quick to agree John.) Anyway maybe he is right because what you said makes more sense than what Cohen says. LOL

Hi guys,
may I challenge you here?
While it's easy - and fun, I suppose - to express sarcasm, you've actually supported his concern about so many of us today.
All he is saying is that we must appreciate and take our lives seriously: not in a heavy or self-imortant way, but with the intent to contribute in humility. As he says, we live with less pain and suffering than any generation in history, and yet so many of us are bitter, angry, and, yes, sarcastic.
What, really, are you making fun of? The call to growth and contribution? If so, why?
Wishing you well,
Alan

Why would anyone want to retire to Florida before every atomic particle in the universe was lit up with consciousness? This is the place to be.
