China Censors Google Searches; "Human Rights" Becomes "Hunan Rice"

What's Your Reaction:

BEIJING (The Borowitz Report) - Google pulled out of China today after discovering that the Chinese government had been censoring the search results of its world-famous search engine.

"When you typed 'human rights' you'd get 'Did you mean hunan rice?'" said Google spokesperson Tracy Klugian. "For us that, was the last straw."

Government spokesperson Qiu Liangyong said that Google was acting "hastily," adding, "It's legitimate to ask if someone was searching for hunan rice. People here like rice, a lot."

But such explanations are unlikely to sway Google, whose spokesman responded: "What the Chinese government is doing amounts to wanton censorship. In fact, if you Googled 'wanton censorship' in China, you'd get, 'Did you mean wonton sesame shrimp? Dude, that's not even a real dish.'" More here.
