Most people know me here as a guy who frequently rants about the latest Dick Cheney drivel, the Republicans being the "Party of No," or how ludicrous it is to award million-dollar bonuses to Wall Street's TARP babies. Throw in a little Obama euphoria and that's me in a nutshell. But what they don't often know is that I also run a non-profit foundation that supports women filmmakers with scholarships, production grants, finishing funds and living stipends, and that this foundation carries the name of my late wife, Adrienne Shelly, who was brutally murdered in 2006.

Adrienne wrote, directed and starred in Waitress, the critically-acclaimed box-office hit of 2007. But it was not the first feature film she wrote and directed. There were two others. She struggled, like most filmmakers--especially women filmmakers--to get their work produced. And it is in her honor that the Adrienne Shelly Foundation was founded to help other very talented women get their films made.

On Monday we launched the Second Annual Adrienne Shelly Foundation eBay auction. There are 39 amazing items up for bidding including 20 private lunches with major celebrities including Paul Rudd, Jeremy Sisto, David Schwimmer, Rachel Dratch, Edie Falco, Jon Hamm, Lily Taylor, Gina Gershon, John Slattery, Rosanna Arquette, Nathan Fillion, Keri Russell and Kevin Smith. There's also movie walk-ons (wanna be in a film with Bruce Willis? Drew Barrymore?), VIP television show tickets (Rachael Ray, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Ellen DeGeneres), a signed Meg Ryan original photograph, movie premiere/party tickets, Sundance and Tribeca Film Festival VIP packages and more.

It's all for a great cause, so check it out and place some bids if you can. Click here to be directed to our eBay Store.

As a side note, Adrienne wrote a script after Waitress called Serious Moonlight. It's a film I'm producing with Waitress producer Michael Roiff, and it has its world premiere April 25th at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Directed by Cheryl Hines, it stars Meg Ryan, Timothy Hutton, Justin Long and Kristen Bell. How wonderful that movie audiences will get to see another Adrienne Shelly-penned film.

I was surfing on ebay, when up came an offer to have lunch w/ Jeremy Sisto. I almost fell off my chair. I'm a huge fan. Eventually, I wound up here (funny how that happens when you're avoiding a pile of laundry). I'm just a mom who loves movies, but hey, cheers to all of you who realize that we fans are out here who still love great writing and characterization. We are entertained by the substance of dialogue, not graphics. I will make small a donation on the foundation website to support this cause.

Waitress was a meh, forgettable movie with cliche characters and a wholly predictable ending. sorry had to be said. sorry for your loss in any event.

"...sorry had to be said."

You lack any sense of propriety, clearly have no skills in social perception, and possess the emotional maturity of a fourteen year-old.

Sorry, had to be said.

Waitress was also my first opportunity to see Adrienne's work, and it is one of my favourite films of all time.
I was so sad to hear of your loss. She was an amazing woman.

I really appreciate all the kind words about Adrienne. Thank you. And, I'd love to see that college paper when it's done! And if I can help in any way.....

Congratulations on the second production. Your wife was a lovely, talented woman and I was saddened to hear her story. And now so happy to hear to hear some of your story and know that your wife has someone to honor her still. Best wishes to you and a successful auction!

I first saw Adrienne in TRUST and HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME and was a big fan of her work. I was very saddened when the news broke about her passing. Of course, I bought the WAITRESS dvd and will do the same when SERIOUS MOONLIGHT is released. She was a great talent, who left this world far too soon.

Great to hear this. I am taking a Graduate level Gender Communication class at FSU and one of my classmates is writing his paper on Waitress and Adrienne Shelly, so we started talking about obviously gender issues in the world of entertainment industry and the portrayal of women in her movie.

"Waitress" is an amazing movie, a wonder. What a tragic loss that Adrienne was so stupidly taken from us when she should be making many more fantastic, unique, heartfelt movies.

Adrienne was a very gifted filmmaker, writer and actress, and since seeing Waitress I think of her often. What a terrible loss. Wonderful that you are working to continue her legacy.

The only one of Adrienne's movies I've seen is Hal Hartley's "Trust" - she made a huge impression. I will make a point of seeing Waitress and Serious Moonlight.

The Foundation is a wonderful project and I wish you every success in promoting women making film and in producing Serious Moonlight. Your work is a wonderful tribute to your wife.

I LOVED "The Waitress." Absolutely loved it. I didn't realize until the closing credits that Adrienne had died or the circumstances of her death ( actually, I still don't know the details and I don't need/want to). It's enough to know the talent we have lost. I commend you for carrying on in her memory. I'm sure she is very proud. Thank you for keeping her alive for us.

Waitress is one of my favorite movies of all time. It breaks my heart to watch it, especially the last scene where Adrienne is holding her daughter, who was her inspiration for the script. I commend you for keeping her memory and her passion for making quality films alive. It is a great lesson for the rest of us on how to bring good out of a heartbreaking situation. I know your lovely wife is watching over you and your beautiful daughter with great pride and joy.

I know her films well, and your writing. I had not known she was your wife. What a loss, for a hundred reasons.

Good on you for raising money for women making film. And let me tell you how happy it makes me that Cheryl Hines directed Serious Moonlight. That must be very special for her, that it's Adrienne's work she'll bring to life. I cannot wait to see it.
