Psycho Kidnapper-Rapist Phillip Garrido Should be Put to Death

2009-08-29-Garrido.jpg
In 1988 Phillip Garrido was released from prison after serving eleven years for kidnapping and raping a Nevada woman. He was supposed to serve fifty years but was paroled and tagged a registered sex-offender. And now we know the chilling details of the 1991 abduction of then-11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard, now 29, who Garrido and his wife Nancy grabbed off the street in front of her Northern California home and held her prisoner in their backyard shed, during which time he repeatedly raped her and ultimately fathered her two children, 15 and 11. Do the math: she was impregnated at age 14.

This sick monster, who delusionally called the ordeal a "heartwarming story" when arrested, should not have been free to stalk his child victim. How is it that one can kidnap and rape someone, receive fifty years, and be on the street in ten? There's something radically wrong with our criminal justice system when animals like Garrido walk amongst us after committing horrific crimes.

So now what do we do with this deranged psychopath who has zero chance of being rehabilitated? If it was up to me he'd be put to death. Get rid of his sorry criminal ass once and for all so that he can no longer pose a threat to another human being, inside or outside of prison. Why should we pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to incarcerate him for the rest of his life? I don't want my tax-dollars paying for his shelter, his three daily squares, his television, his prison-yard weight-lifting, his college degree. I don't want him reading, watching movies, listening to music, exercising.

As the father of a young daughter I cannot fathom what Dugard's mother and stepfather have been through. What Garrido did to this poor young girl is beyond unconscionable. He robbed her of her life. He mentally, verbally, physically and sexually abused her for 19 years. He destroyed her spirit. There simply is no mercy that should be shown this beast. I want him first gang-raped in prison, then castrated, and finally executed. With Dugard pulling the lever.

There is more than just Garrido and his wife to blame. To me the system failed jaycee Dugard. I want to know WHO THE HELL LET THIS GUY OUT and for what reason???? I don't think I have ever been more angry at the system than I have with this case. I wish I didn't have to work so I could spend the rest of my life changing the laws. What the hell does a 50 year sentence mean? Can't these idiots do math????? God, 11 years for a 50 year sentence. I want the person or people who set this animal free to explain themselves and for someone to PLEASE try to change these laws

Why waste time to see if he was connected to killing of prostitutes now? First of all, he's not the type to go after prostitutes. He wanted to get off on molesting someone like your average girl next door, more innocent types. That's why he was into young kids in the first place.

And what more evidence is needed to find him guilty and to kill him? What a waste of taxpayer's money and a sheer insult to our intelligence!

I agree with you, Andy Ostroy. I am no fan of the death penalty, because of the risk of executing innocent people. But Phillip Garrido's guilt is undeniable. What he did is worse than murder. There's no reason to keep this monster alive at taxpayer's expense.
I cannot imagine what hell Jaycee went through. Stockholm Syndrome is a means of survival; Jaycee should not be blamed for bonding with him. That may be the only reason she's alive. Jaycee and her daughters need help immensely, and I wonder if they can ever fully recover. Then, there's the suffering of Jaycee's family and everyone else who knew and loved her, and missed her all these years. Garrido saying this would prove to be a "heartwarming" story, makes me want to throw up.
Just because Garrido is most likely schizophrenic, doesn't mean he didn't know on some level that his actions were wrong. He was functional enough to operate a business. Therefore, he's functional enough to pay for his crimes.

WE NEED TO STOP THE SICKNESS THAT WE ARE ALLOWING TO HAPPEN TO CHILDREN. THE LAW IS TOO LIENIENT. DOING THIS TO A CHILD IS THE SAME AS KILLING THEM MENTALLY. PHILIP GARRIDO AND HIS WIFE NEED TO RECEIVE A QUICK DEATH PENALTY VERDICT. LAWS FOR CHILD RAPISTS/MOLESTERS NEED TO BE CHANGED NOW!

I agree we should have the death penalty for cases like this. However, I am not confident the court gets it right 100% of the time. I am certain that many innocent men & women have seen the death chambers and chairs of America.

Actually that will be very easy. He needs to be thrown out to a Lion cage and be eaten alive. World is better off without people like these.

The guy doesn't need more prison -- he needs help & understanding from liberal sociologists and psychologists who realize that he is a victim too. Besides, the California parole board released Lawrence Singleton after only 8 years --- he raped a girl, cut off her arms & left her to die.

Punishment should fit the crime.

Compare the enormity of the
crimes of Bernard Madoff and Phillip Garrido.

Both men put their lust,
one for money, one for sex,
above standards of civilized social behavior.

The object of Phillip Garrido's lust Jaycee Lee Dugard,
bonded with him and does not want to see him punished,
and the lives of Garrido, his wife, Dugard, the grandmother, the grandfather,
and Dugard's sister have been enhanced by Dugard's two children.

Dugard's life was not taken away as many assert as
having different, more intense, and more painful life experiences,
does not take away one's life,
and it may be that books, movies and donations
will follow that will provide security for Dugard and her children.

On the other hand, the people screwed by Madoff
have not bonded with him,
and only pain and despair have resulted from his actions.

Cold, hard, professional, criminals like Madoff,
who systematically and persistently harm thousands of people,
deserve far more severe punishment
than petty criminals and rapists.

If folks want to hang criminals
they should start with Madoff, Lehman,
and the people who conned America into the war on Iraq.

Hanging gets the attention of cold, evil, calculating criminals,
but does nothing to deter people motivated
by sex, hunger, revenge and anger.

You make an excellent point. However, if I had to choose my money or my life, I would choose my life. And so in this sense Dugard is more of a beast than Madoff in that he killed a human spirit.

Our duty is to unite him and his wife with their Creator, ASAP. Let the Lord send them to their appropriate destiny.

You will get no argument from me about execution for both this man and his wife.

I agree put the personality disordered psychos .i.e. murderers and rapists to death. People with personality disorders are not rehabilitated ever. This is not mental illness, it is a "character" disorder.

He might as well of killed her. He killed her spirit and soul raped her for 18 years. I don't care what you people say. She nor those girls will ever be normal. I would rather my child have been killed and at peace rather than tortured for all those years. I guess you missed the part where this freak had men line up outside the tent to have at this poor child.

Evil is evil. Take them out at their first offense. There's no justice in letting people have freedoms and the opportunity to spread this kind of behavior on this earth. They do not care about others and will continue to destroy people until their last breath. I say the take that last breath once they've proven they are pathological and dangerous to society.

Put this guy and the wife to death. Good riddance. Next.

I am against the death penalty as most Libertarians and most true conservatives are but if he were to receive it I would think that his wife deserves it at LEAST as much !

The death penalty is a revenge punishment. Wrong.

Yet it is known that sex offenders pose an ongoing threat to society. A short stint in prison will not rehabilitate. Sure, perhaps they should be removed from society forever.

Against this knowledge, sex offenders are released. And people like a John Walker Lind, who may have been massively foolish, even delusional, he never waged war against the US, never killed anyone. Was no sex offender and did not prey on children.

He will serve more time in prison that sex offenders and those who harm our children.

True protection of society does not seem to be the motivation of our judicial system.

This story has been repeated so many, many, many times! Different names, different perpetrators, different victims, different countries. Therefore, the big question is: How do we, as a society, stop the vile, blantant wickedness of such crimes, like this against all the "Innocents"? When penal systems release criminals like Garridos back into society, because of the penal systems economic inability to pay employees, house, feed, provide free medical care, clothing, provide all the necessary requirements, etc. etc., even as banal as they appear to be, for everyone looking from the outside in, & these same criminals repeat and repeat, until they're finally caught.God only knows, the crimes they perpetrated, that they DID NOT get caught for. These are situations, that we as the people,as a society, cannot possibly even begin to evaluate. If the death penalty is never applicable, taxes would soar even more then they are now.We as a society, pay for all the expenses of trying to keep the penal systems afloat.Think about it.,death when assigned by a 'system', isn't easily digestible, or a subject that runs smoothly to our softer sides. However, these criminals DO NOT have a softer side. When an individual is incurable, commits crimes against the very nature of our civilized minds, our children, our society, then I for one, believe that preventable measures MUST be enforced whenever possible. What other choice is there. We aren't Peter Pans and we don't live in Never Never Land.We have to face reality and reality is not always easy to face!

Sadly, the reality is that the death penalty tends to get used against the poorest rather than the vilest.

This horrific story disgusts me & fears me.I fear for the safety of my 7yr.old granddaughter &ALL the helpless children & their parents who can't defend themselves against such diabolical evil.I'm so angry at the ineffective people who're lawmakers, law enforcement officials, probation officers, child protection services.California's gone nuts.CPS,(ineffectively called 'child protection services')doesn't care, completely understaffed & doesn't take necessary actions needed to protect children.I've been involved with CPS, re:my granddaughter. They failed repeatedly to protect her against her father.People like this sociopathic pedophile Garrido&his wife(whether she's a victim or not)should be given the death penalty. He was released time after time for repeat offenses,&after serving a very short time in prison for something he shouldn't have been released.Kidnapping, rape& possible murder? How bad can it continue to keep getting?Law officials know a pedophile can't be reformed,& they release animals to offend. He should not be given any manner of mercy, death penalty only.Even that's too good for a disgusting piece of garbage. His probation officer should be chgd.,along with CPS.Such improprieties.I think Gov. Schwarzenegger is doing a horrible ('rich mans) job of being Gov. I wrote him a personal letter, asking for his assistance re:my granddaughter.Never received any acknowledgement.I feel such empathy for the Duggard family, any family or individual, who's had such traumatic events brought on by such depravity like the Mansons, the Garridos and all these depraved lunatics continuing to roam streets of the USA.It's reprehensible!Ehe SYSTEM sucks!
