Romney: University Professors Don't Have Real Jobs

Posted: 05/25/2012 9:15 am

In a Fox News interview this week Mitt Romney made it quite clear that he's the anti-education candidate. In criticizing what he calls President Obama's attack on capitalism, the presumptive Republican nominee summarily dismissed and disrespected the entire teaching profession:

"He doesn't understand how the free economy works," he said of Obama. "He's never had a job in the free economy."

Really? Teaching Constitutional law was not a real job? Being a grade school or high school teacher or college professor doesn't make you part of the "free economy" workforce in Romney's convoluted elitist thinking?

It's morally reprehensible and irresponsible enough that, as Massachusetts governor, he cut the education budget so severely that state universities were forced to raise tuition by 63 percent. But his latest salvo against educators should be a dire warning to voters as to what a Romney presidency will look like for those who, unlike him, weren't born with a silver spoon and who need educational assistance.

And any teacher or professor who is contemplating voting for Romney has to question his principles, his lack of commitment to the education of America's youth, and to his palpable disdain for how they earn a living in his "free economy."

I wonder why someone didn't ask him what he considers as real job. I would really be interested in the answer so that I can determine if I had a real job or just spent my time chasing butterflies all these years.
How about it Mr.Hotshot, Tell us what a real job is so that we can get rid of all the fake ones that we don't need....But then again, I have a sneaky suspicion that you wouldn't know a real job from a hole in the ground.

Hail to the chef -this Romney fella is all about himself. His job was the only job where folks work, despite the short days and thousand dollar lunches the wall st crowd buys with their million dollar plus bonuses. How about a real job...have the chef cook a meal at a shelter rather than cooking the books and sucking up all the loot.

Of course Romney doesn't value education; it was just handed to him by his father.

Teaching 8th graders is hardly equivalent to teaching
idealogical beliefs to the "community".

"due process of law; nor deny to any person within its
jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws"

Your President 'taught' his views on the 14th. He cannot
explain them to his American audience. He is a vociferous
ideologue, IMO!

He does not seem to understand the US Constitution
or the 14th Amendment. There is zero evidence I am wrong.
Else! Show me, please.

Vinegar + Water = Romney

I always thought of Romney as a reduced form of vinegar. Maybe not ethanol. Probably more like acetaldehyde.

My guess is that Robmey thinks that anyone tha works for the government in any capacity, doesn''t have a real job. Only private sector for profit jobs are "real". I can't stand Mr. 'I live for laughter" Romney.

I think one of my friends that lived in MA when Robme was gov, said he donated his salary back to the state. Of course his salary to him is probably like a dollar to you and me.

Gee, Barack Obama was a university professor...was that intended as a slight towards him? No matter...Obama went on to become President of the United States whereas Romney continues to lie and bully his way to the highest office of the land.

So what is "free economy". Don't know where that exists as everything seems to have a subsidy attached to it.

Mitt Romney =anti intellectual. Why is the Mitt? Because you think only stupid people or people who believe in economic Darwinism will vote for you? Well, you may be right on that score.

Let me see.... Romney has lost the Latino vote, the union worker vote, the people caught in the safety net vote, the people who have ever been fired vote, the people with unusual hair styles vote, the people who love their dogs vote, the woman vote, the teacher vote, and now the college professor vote. Who is left to vote for this guy?

Rmoney is saying that unless you are engaged in or supporting the act of fleecing a target clientele of inordinate amounts of money for personal financial gain you don't have a real job. Although higher education (the industry where Obama was admittedly employed) is notorious for fleecing its target clientele, there is little evidence of college professors realizing inordinate financial gain.
