The Right Wing's Racist Attacks on Michelle Obama

2008-08-12-ObamaMichelle.jpg
The shameless right-wing attack machine has figured out that it may be more politically expedient to go over after Michelle Obama with subliminal racist attacks than the Democratic candidate himself. And the racist code word of the day is "angry." What they're trying to do is scare Americans into seeing Michelle Obama as nothing more than an angry black woman who they should fear getting into the White House. It's absolutely disgusting.

We've heard for months now how the wife of the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee for president, Sen. Barack Obama, is unpatriotic and hates her country. That she is not "proud" to be an American. That she believes America to be a "mean" place.

And now she's "angry." Very, very angry. One of the more relentless perpetrators of this reprehensible attack is Sirius Radio's Andrew Wilkow. On his "The Wilkow Majority" show Monday the Sean Hannity wannabe went on a verbal rampage against the "mean-faced," "tough-looking" Obama, saying she was "harboring a whole lot of anger" and that she was "full of rage." So much rage that she has "quivering lips" and a "scowl" when she speaks. And as if that wasn't enough, he railed that "she looks like the kind of woman that would hit her husband with a shoe for talking back." Is this guy for real? If Wilkow would like us to believe that he's not trying very hard to conjure up the racist image of the angry black woman, he is either terribly dumb and naive or thinks we are. Just how does Wilkow know she's "full of rage?" What's he basing this prognosis on? Is he watching the same intelligent, happy family woman that I see plastered all over the TV? I've yet to see even one public display of even a bad mood let alone the sort of "rage" Wilkow refers to. Perhaps it's Wilkow who's the one "full of rage?" Maybe it's Wilkow who "harbors a lot of anger" at the thought of a a black First Family? What's even more outrageous than Wilkow's blatant stereotyping is his claim that his attacks on Michelle Obama "are not personal."

The right wing attack dogs have one goal, and that's to scare the crap of America. "Michelle and Barack Obama. The angry radical black man and his angry black wife. A couple of militants whom Whitey should be very, very afraid of." It's 2004 all over again. But instead of gay marriage it's angry black folk. Let's just hope this time Americans care more about the war, the recession, $4.50/gallon gas prices, unemployment, record debt, the housing slump, the mortgage crisis, universal health care and global warming.

The shameless right-wing attack machine has figured out that it may be more politically expedient to go over after Michelle Obama with subliminal racist attacks than the Democratic candidate himself.

So, who's listening to him anyway? The people who already believe the way he does. He is insignificant.

I don't care what smears they perpetuate about MO..... she is an awesome woman.
She has, literelly, brought herself up from bootstraps and has gone on to become an influential person in Chicago Medicine.

I was amused a couple of months ago when I was watching some guy from Fox News on Verdict saying that MO had a "do nothing" job...... she was promoting DIVERSITY and that Diversity was a non-issue...

Where and when was this guy born? Diversity is the number one issue in the USA today.... only bigots like him would not be able to understand that.

I am Asian/american... a halfer... but look out for us "people of color" you white people.... We are soon to become the majority in America...... and in the near future you can look forward to the celebration of Caucasian Day and Month in our diversity activities because you will be the minority.

Where are the voices of the feminists on behalf of Michelle Obama? Where are those same feminist voices that rallied around Hillary Clinton? Where is the voice of Gloria Steinem? Is she still outraged over the fact that Hillary Clinton is no longer in the running for the presidency? Or does she not know how to relate to a Michelle Obama? Where is the voice of Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women? Of all people she should be the one to stand front and center when it comes to Michelle Obama being attacked. Where are all the “sisters” that stood tall and supported Hillary and other women in similar positions? Why not offer the same support to Michelle Obama? A little solidarity will go a long way. Or perhaps there are other issues that cloud this subject of support for Michelle Obama. Or are there too many angry white women that have difficulty supporting a beautiful and intelligent black woman?

that any of these so-called feminists are planning to vote for MkKain

I'll tell you where they are, they are sulking and plotting to try to crash the Dem. Convention in order to get Hillary back in the race. I have a feeling that most of the 18 million supporters she had, do not intend to lose this election and there-fore will be voting for Obama, who by the way should in not be seen as a consolation prize. He is a remarkable candidate and would make the whole country proud as President.

I wish the MSM would spend more time bringing us the speeches made by candidates and their wives and less time feeding us their take on what someone said, how they said it, what it really means and so on. Show us Michelle Obama and let us decide for ourselves. If you ask the average person how much time they have spent listening or watching Michelle vs, how much time they have spent listening to or watching the predigested stuff, or ten second excerpts, they would be hardpressed to say they have heard or seen her directly. Let's decide for ourselves who is what. The farther you get from the source of something, the more distorted the picture--and the more likely you are to fill in the blanks with your own belifes and stereotypes. I have watched some of her speeches (see barackobama.com) and I like what I see. As a white women, I defend her, and support her right to feel however she feels, even if it makes me uncomfortable because of my own issues.

The American public is just witnessing what happens to Black women on a daily basis only now at the highest level. It's easy to label and dismiss Black women as mean or angry for expressing our opinions in a passionate manner, or not being afraid to express our frustrations or discontent. I know plenty women of all races who fit that aforementioned discription--so, why label Back women angry? I really hope Americans will focus on the real issues facing our nation and not on the personal attacks of a candidate's wife. By the way, I'm a not so angry Black woman

Attacked from both sides the GOP and even worse the silence from the suposed womans rights groups who came out full force yelling and screeming sexism toward Hillary have yet to say anything about Michelle Obama being racked over the coals. The only one saying anything against it is either Michelle herself and Barack. The womanes gropus and the woemn of the democratic party are not speaking up over this nonsense...no one. it seems in this electin the Obama's are in it bythem selves battleing not only the GOP but the non supporting deomocratic party and the anti Obama frindge groups and talking heads. This is the worst lack Of support I've seen from a candidates own party.

The Bible tells us that Jesus got angry, more than once. The important thing is: it's ok to get angry over the right things. There is a lot to be angry about these days when we consider the state of our economy, poverty in this country, hundreds of people without healthcare coverage, unlawful discrimination; poor education system; inability to adequately respond to natural disasters; etc. etc. And , considering that we are spendings billions of dollars A MONTH on a war where the citizens want us out; considering the waste, fraud and abuse of American tax payers dollars in support of the wars.Every day we read about contractors who over charge; paid for services not provided; and products not delivered!

My advice to Michelle is: Continue to be YOURSELF and don't let others define WHO YOU RE. It's your life and you must stick by it! YOU ARE SOMEBODY and that's what haters are having a problem with.

It's about time someone in this country gets angry. We are losing our rights, jobs, freedoms.

It is interesting that I am middle aged with no children and I should not give a .... But I do.

Wakeup before we lose the wonderful country to fanatics and power hungry dictators.

For those who believe Ms. Obama is anything other than an intelligent, supportive woman..... Well, Stupid is as stupid does!

So what is the politically correct way for the GOP to express their main point in this race which is "Those darkies are getting uppity and don't know they're place!"

I'm a Black female officer, and any time I make it clear that what I say goes (because it does, my rank and position say so), I get "Ma'am, could you be a little nicer to the guys next time?" But I know that if I do that, then the next time it'll be "Ma'am, you gotta toughen up on these guys if you want them to listen to you." It's a hideous double standard, but it's there nonetheless. Stay strong Mrs. Obama, they fear you know, but they won't cross THAT LINE (and we Black women know what that line is)
