You Are Not a "Great American," Sean Hannity

I have a huge problem with Sean Hannity. And we all should. He is anything but the "great American" he and his brainwashed listeners delusionally call each other every five minutes. In fact, to the contrary, he's about as unpatriotic as they come. He roots for America to fail just so he can keep spewing his partisan venom at President Obama and Democrats. Shame on him.

2009-11-09-Hannity.jpg

I say this not as a Democrat who's upset with him, because I'm not. Truth is, I and most other Democrats couldn't care less what he has to say. We find him ignorant and insignificant and can't believe anyone actually chooses to listen to him on the merits. But what's most shameful about him is how he blatantly lies and deceives his own audience. People who put their trust and faith in him. And he pays them back by feeding them bullshit at every possible turn. If only they know just how full of crap he is. But their ignorance of the facts is exactly what he preys on. As ill-informed as heis on the issues, they make him appear smart. And that's not easy.

Hannity on Friday was predicting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lacked the votes needed to pass the health-care reform bill, or "Pelosi-Care" as he calls it. That the measure had hit a wall and that Democrats were abandoning ship. He smugly mocked Pelosi, complete with devilish Dick Dastardly cackle, because she had been predicting the bill's passage. Oh, how just a few hours can make someone look completely out of touch. As usual, wrong again Sean.

Hannity, like most disingenuous right-wing talking-heads, has been wetting himself over what he claims to be a "horrible week for Democrats." Give these guys a couple of gubernatorial victories and they predict the Rise and Fall of the Obama Empire. Truth is, on a national level, Democrats have won every single House and Senate special election over the past year, including two last Tuesday. Every one. If there's any referendum going on here it's on the Republican Party and its incumbents, not Obama. Voters are resoundingly rejecting conservatives from New York to California. Hannity and his fellow liars can yap all they want about the significance of Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell's gubernatorial victories in New Jersey and Virginia respectively, but these two statewide contests prove nothing on the national scale. They were fought and won primarily on local issues. Given all the victories the left's piled up in the House and Senate under Obama, I'd be worried if I were Michael Steele and his GOP. And as for last week? With the two House wins and the health-care bill's passage, I'd say it was a pretty good one for Democrats. Nice try, Sean.

Hannity also incessantly lies to his listeners about the economy. He simply cannot admit there's been significant improvement. He rails on that this is now "Obama's economy," yet deceptively shields his audience from the truth about how the president and his economic team have pulled the nation back from the brink of financial Armageddon this time last year. You won't hear him talk of GDP growth, huge declines in job losses or recovery in the banking, housing, retail and auto industries. You won't hear him discuss the Dow's rise from 6500 to 10,000. Don't hold your breath waiting for anything truthful such as, "While we still have a long way to go, we sure have come a long way and are seeing many signs of improvement." Of course not. That would make him honest and objective.

Sorry Sean, but this is definitely not Obama's economy. Obama's trying, and very deftly I might add, to fix the shitstorm Bush dumped in his lap. In office just 10 months, the worst economy since The Great Depression is no more Obama's than the 9-11 attacks were Bush's fault.

If Sean Hannity truly wants to be the "great American" he claims to be, he can start by being truthful to his listeners and by not rooting for his supposedly beloved America to fail.

To call himself as a Great American. What has he done for the country? Has he served? He should not use this word for everyone.

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, who Hannity bashes on his radio show every chance he gets... apparently in retaliation, confronted Hannity on his previous Hannity and Colmes show about Hannity's using Andy Martin, "an avowed anti-semite" as the main source of information for one of his 2 one hour smear Obama specials on Fox"News" right before the election.

If you have never seen this classic clip.... it does a body and spirit good to see this thing of beauty!

How about...

http://mediamatters.org/press/releases/200910160035

"Today, after Glenn Beck attacked White House communications director Anita Dunn for calling Mao Zedong one of her two "favorite political philosophers," Media Matters for America challenged the Fox News host to similarly denounce the numerous conservatives who have also approvingly cited the tactics of Mao, Vladimir Lenin, and the Viet Cong, stated that they had used those tactics in their political work, or have otherwise highlighted their philosophies."

"By Glenn Beck's logic, Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove, and the CATO Institute are all part of the same revolutionary communist conspiracy," said Ari Rabin-Havt, vice president of Media Matters. "Beck should do better research before hurling around McCarthyite accusations."

BACKGROUND:

"...One mistake Beck recently made was to air a clip of Dunn calling Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa two of her "favorite political philosophers" and to use those comments to falsely link Dunn to the murder of tens of millions of Chinese under Mao's reign. However, Beck ignored the numerous conservatives who have approvingly cited the tactics of Mao, Vladimir Lenin, and the Viet Cong, stated that they had used those tactics in their political work, or have otherwise highlighted their philosophies.

[Examples included in article for Gingrich, Rove, Shadegg, Reed.]

We Americans usually think of ourselves as "fair-minded" and engaging in "fair play". Hannity is neither fair minded or plays fairly. He distorts every issue, seldom uses actual facts, and can not engage in a debate without lying. He is a dedicated propagandist and most in America have a low regard for propaganda, even of the flag waving variety.

If Hannity were fair minded the would have come up with a replacement for Colmes or at least lobbied his own network to provide a Democrat or liberal host for Fox news.

He doesn't care about "fair and balanced" just whatever fits into his own person view.

I feel so strongly that every news program should carry a dislcaimer to inform the viewing public of what they are watching.

The viewers need to be informed if a program is an opinion or editorial comment and they need to know that doesn't qualify as news. Opinion programs may or may not contain actual facts.

Fox viewers watch because Fox dumbs down the "news" and presents a simplistic frequently non-fact based agenda that is easy to understand.

Just because their viewers like it doesn't mean they are receiving factual information when most of the network presents opinions.

Hannity picked Colmes, who was a comedian at the time, to be his ideological opponent because he knew Colmes would be a very weak one.

Yes, I agree with you that all Hannity cares about is persuading people to his far-right cause by any means necessary!

I'm STILL waiting for Hannity to show what a "great American" he is by being waterboarded for charity.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/28/hannity-waterboard-offer-_n_192578.html
"Sure," Hannity said. "I'll do it for charity ... I'll do it for the troops' families."

Olbermann offered $1,000 to the families of U.S. troops for every second Hannity withstood the technique.
-- Still no action from Hannity.

Jesse Ventura offered a $1,000 bet that if he were to waterboard Hannity, he’d get Hannity to say that Barack Obama is the greatest president. If he couldn't he'd donate the money to charity.
-- Still no action from Hannity.

C'mon Hannity. Don't you care about charity? Don't you care about the families of our troops?

We've gotten so used to topical, current humor having truth in it thanks to Jon Stewart that when a comedian like Hannity comes along we've forgotten that humor can also be about exaggeration, hyperbole and outright falsehoods.

I suppose the problem may be that Hannity isn't actually funny so people assume he's being serious.

On the day after Michelle Obama's elequent and moving speech at the DNC, in which she talked of their family values, their dreams for their daughters and her relationship with her husband, Hannity told his radio audience:

"Don't you believe it ladies and gentlemen! EVERYTHING that Michelle Obama said was scripted PURE HOLLYWOOD! Never forget that tis is an ANGRY BLACK WOMAN"!

"Hannity also incessantly lies to his listeners about the economy".

Right befor the Presidential election, Hannity told his radio audience:

"Ladies and gentlemen there IS NO FINANCIAL CRISIS in this country! This is ALL nothing but Barack Obama LIES... just his ploy to get elected"!

I find it hard to see any difference between the talking heads from either side. When Bush was in office, the Left bombarded him with criticism while the Right praised his every deed. Now, with Obama, it's the same thing except from opposite sides. If you don't like what any of these bombastic loudmouths have to say, don't listen to them. The facts always speak for themselves.

The problem with the likes of Hannity is that they personalize all the politics. None of their commentary is justified. It's all just personal attacks on people with whom they disagree. They can't seem to take a position based on facts so they just attack the person. It's really shameful and childish.
Fox news, like the Washington Times, will go the way of the USSR's Pravda.

There is a direct lineage between "Father" Charles Coughlin during the FDR years and hucksters like Hannity and Limbaugh. Both then and now, the country was facing economic disaster (and both brought about by Repulican policies) and shameless demagogues crawled out of the woodowork to spew fear and hate when sanity and compassion were most needed.

There will always be a certain percentage of the country that is fearful, racist, ingnorant and completely uninformed. If this were not true, demagogues would have no audience and they know this. And people like Rupert Murdoch are essentially enablers who allow lies and flith to pass off as legitimate news. People like Hannity will always be around to spread this filth as it fills both their egos and pocketbooks. So it is up to us to remain informed and to call him out on his barrage of lies.

Why does anyone listen to this college drop-out anyway? According to his biography, he graduated in 1980 from St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary high school, located in Uniondale, New York, but dropped out of New York University and Adelphi University.
