Online Ad Network Specific Media Acquires MySpace

Specific Media, one of the biggest online advertising networks, has purchased MySpace from News Corp. for $35 million today.

We spoke with CEO Tim Vanderhook recently about growth of the Irvine-based company, which is now one of the industry's largest video ad networks with its $55 million acquisition of BBE.

Andy great scope on the reporting. I had to check by all recollections News Corp bought MySpace for $580 MILLION in cash. We than thought that Murdoch was just buying access to the social network's young demographic; he wanted to serve his advertisements to this group but as the rest of the story pans out it was 30, 40 and 50 something that took front and center stage on the social network arena and poured money in to it. What I see is the bunch right behind them that are getting a pretty good idea what they want and it's not going to be purely social networking. There is an element of 'scoring', 'ranking' or 'liking' whatever you want to call it is going to emerge from this MySpace world. The value will be in its intelligence...
