Most Anticipated Books of Spring 2011

Posted: 04/ 3/11 08:02 AM ET

Here's another great selection of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction for Spring of 2011.

There are several important books on the current morass in Afghanistan-Pakistan, above all veteran analyst Anatol Lieven on Pakistan, drawing on long first-hand knowledge of the region to present better policy options based on understanding of facts and history.A timely book addressing the exploitation of the nation's younger workforce under the guise of the "internship model," and yet another urgent call to bring our energy policy in line with reality. Short story collections from two British masters, and one great Irish writer. A book exploring whether Marx remains relevant. The borders of inequality, and why attention to illegal immigration is a diversion. An expose of the madness industry by the British author who wrote the most perceptive analysis of extremists a decade ago. And more!

Adam Zagajewski, 'Unseen Hand: Poems' (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, April 29)

Exciting new poems from another Eastern European poet worthy of the Nobel Prize. As good a book of poetry as you're likely to read this year.

This dude is the funniest writer on this site. Props for the "15 Most Overrated Authors" article.

Yo, I still think that dude wrote an epic article that was all 100% honest about how overrated those authors are.

I'll be reading Edna O' Briens Saints and Sinners and Pakistan: A Hard Country. I love Margaret Drabble however I'm not fond of short stories, not even from one of my most favorite authors. I am going to reread her The Witch of Exmor" this year.

Oooh, Anis, I didn't know about Eagleton's book before. It's a must for me to check him out. I'm reading Fromm's "Marx's Concept of Man" and that is such an eye-opener, I'll be primed for TE's book by the time I'm done. Respek!

good poems - garrison keillor it kind of remind me of that 6 word memoir thing. Their were some famous people but mostly average people that wrote poems for every mood. I can't think of one that was crappy. It had quirky little bios of each person who contributed. I was sad when it had to be returned to the library.

The greatest find I made in the last ten years. I like to discover interesting new books, and I hit the jackpot with this one. It was available for free on it's website but now you have to buy a copy to read it. I did even thought I already read it because it is so worth it. The book is An Old Black Marble by Florin Nicoara. Check it out at anoldblackmarble.com.

Its one of the most stunning works of literature I have read, but I have to warn you, it will change the way you view the world and yourself in it. This novel is a game changer. It seems the writer is as of yet unpublished and unknown(which is odd considering what he wrote) but it won't be so for long once word spreads around.

For those who can't wait, there's a big chunk of poems from this book in Little Star magazine, as well as other great Polish poets Wislawa Szymborska, Anna Swir, and Ryszard Krynicki.

Nice to see so many academic press books on your list. These presses often don't get the credit they deserve.
