The Most Anticipated Books For The Beginning Of 2011 (PHOTOS)

There are some amazing books to look forward to in the first quarter of 2011! There won't be a better book of fiction all year than Rana Dasgupta's Solo, and Colm Toibin, one of the world's master storytellers, is out with an incredible new story collection, The Empty Family. Look for the selected poems of Michael McClure, a poet who's been writing for 50 years and deserves more attention, and the selected poems of Tadeusz Rozewicz. As we head into the third year of the financial crisis, a number of books offer necessary perspectives on global economics, financial regulation, and the balance of power heading into the future. There is a Humphrey Bogart biography, Joyce Carol Oates's memoir on widowhood, Andre Dubus's memoir, a book on the gospel of Oprah, a J. D. Salinger biography, and books on the continuing chaos in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A few of the non-fictions look ok, I'll probably check out Prophets of War. The rest look rather dull to be honest.

I've read review copies of The Paris Wife by Paula McClain, a novel about Hemingway's first wife and Salinger by Kenneth Slawenski a biography of the author of The Catcher in the Rye. Both are excellent and will be published in the first quarter of 2011.

World Wide Mind looks good but I'm more exicted about the two vintage Michael Moorcock books I ordered over Christmas.

Nothing about David Foster Wallace? His posthumous, unfinished novel, "The Pale King," comes out in April. I think the 15th.

I believe Julian Assange's former no.2 man is also writing a memoir that is coming out in February. That will certainly be one of the most anticipated books of early 2011.

Hype, pure and simple.

Lots of good political books, demonstrating that small publishers like the New Press and Nation books still running strong,,,,

Too bad they didn't put a one or two sentence blurb explaining each book.

If J. Hoberman's new book reads anything like "Bridge of Light", it'll be great!  That's the one which stood out the most to me.  I'm really looking forward to it, Jim!

Nobody knows, but we can hope. With the "mini-series" coming out - ?

Patrick Rothfuss' next is due in the Spring, however, so there's something to look forward to, in that vein.

I've given up on Martin. It's just been too long. I can't see him ever finishing the series. I'm certainly not going to read another volume, until the series is finished.

Guess Rothfuss is the biggest Fantasy book for 2011. I'm ready for it!

OK y'all got the "Depressing" Genre covered. How about some great entertainments?

Not sure how these were picked but I doubt if these selections are the most anticipated books of the year by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm looking forward to Patrick Lee's sequel to "The Breach", called "Ghost Country. New novels by A. Lee Martinez, Robert Charles Wilson, Robert J. Sawyer, Dean Koontz, Daniel H. Wilson's "Robopocalypse", Richard K. Morgan's "The Cold Commands", Dan Simmons' "Flashback", Chris Roberson and Mike Allred's "iZombie", Preston and Child's new books, Patrick Rothfuss, Chris Evans' Iron Elves sequel, Paul Malmont's sequel to "The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril", as well as keeping up with the new release from Marvel and DC comics.

Personally, I'm not much of a TV watcher so reading is my prime entertainment. I like to escape into another world. Not all "important" books are doomy and gloomy.

The headline should read "anticipated by those in in a writing program or who already have their MFA ".

I'm reading Karin Fossum's new book Broken. It's quite different from her Inspector Sejer police procedurals. As someone writes on the blurbs, it's very much in the vein of Patricia Highsmith.
