Anita Weinberg has worked on behalf of children and families for 30 years as an attorney and as a social worker. Currently she is Clinical Professor, and Director of the ChildLaw Policy Institute at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. In that capacity she also directs Illinois Lead Safe Housing Initiatives, a statewide effort to eliminate childhood lead poisoning.

Weinberg oversees a public-private partnership including state and local public health and housing agencies, community groups, and universities to address problems of childhood lead poisoning. In 2003, with the Chicago Department of Public Health, Weinberg planned and convened a citywide summit that led to the development of a strategic plan for the City of Chicago to eliminate childhood lead poisoning by the year 2010. Weinberg worked with stakeholders and advocates to draft and pass the Illinois Lead Poisoning Prevention Act of 2006, Illinois’ first prevention driven law to address childhood lead poisoning, and legislation to establish a grants and loans program to fund window replacement initiatives in buildings with lead paint hazards.

Weinberg teaches courses in legislative advocacy, domestic violence, and children’s “best interests.” She is the recipient of grants from The Chicago Community Trust, Chicago Department of Public Health, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for work on lead poisoning prevention.
