Profile Away!

Wow! Sarah Palin's amazing! As another major holiday travel season approaches with the whole TSA / body scanning / "junk" fiasco still on our minds, Sarah's Twittered the solution!

"Profile away".

It's so simple. (And oh-so-reminiscent of that environmentally-conscientious "Drill baby, drill.")

I mean, just the other day I was talking to a friend on the phone about the last time Salee was in the States for new legs. Salee is a young Iraqi girl who lost both legs to a US air strike in 2006 and was brought to South Carolina in 2007, and again in 2009, for prosthetic legs through the organization 2010-12-05-Saleeresized.jpgNo More Victims. My husband Cole and I had driven Salee and her father, Abu Ali, to the airport and I'd gotten a pass to go with them to the gate to help carry Salee's crutches and push her wheelchair. As Abu Ali was going through a pat-down, a TSA agent directed me to wheel Salee into a small room where she was told to remove her two above-the-knee prosthetic legs. Knowing how Salee lost her own legs and Salee's personal modesty, this seemed like the ultimate cruelty and humiliation but I held Salee's hands and she made it through the procedure.

In mentioning this to my friend, she responded with, "Well, considering where she's from, she could have had a bomb in those legs!"

Considering where she's from? Salee's from Iraq. Iraq has never attacked the United States. Even our War Criminal turned Bestselling Author Ex-President knew that there were no Iraqis in those planes on 9/11. How thoroughly we've digested the Kool-Aid. Salee didn't just lose her legs to that US airstrike in November of 2006. She also lost her best friend and her brother, both blown to pieces. The children were outside in their back yard playing hopscotch at the time.

But Salee's only one of hundreds of thousands of injured civilians in Iraq, not to mention Afghanistan and Pakistan. And, we're the ones sporting the bombs.

So, I'm wondering about Sarah's solution. Who exactly is she talking about "profiling"? She does realize that the 9/11 hijackers were from nations who are our "allies", and that none of them were from Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan? I know allied nations cause this potential Presidential candidate some confusion, (as evidenced by her standing firm with North Korea), but surely she remembers that, prior to 9/11, the deadliest terrorist attack on the United States was committed by Timothy McVeigh, a far-right NRA card-carrying Caucasian male raised in a Christian home?

Or, perhaps not.
