American Vs Ameri-can't...Setting Precedent For All The Wrong Reasons

From July 4, 1776 until today, our country has made many strides in the name of mankind and humanity. That is not to say we do not have a long way to go, but we are making progress.

AMERICA!!! Land of the free home of the brave; the country that transported man to the moon, just decades after two ambitious brothers figured out how to enable man to soar in the air by engineering an aircraft, the Wright Brothers. A country that went to war, to be free from British rule, then later went to war within itself in the name of freedom and civil liberties. From July 4, 1776 until today, our country has made many strides in the name of mankind and humanity. That is not to say we do not have a long way to go, but we are making progress.

Now, in the year of our Lord 2016, our Country is faced with a presidential election, composed of two candidates, who come with some sort of "baggage" if you will. The presumptive democratic nominee is the former Secretary of State and US Senator, Hilary Clinton, who is mistrusted by many, due to a few issues that have overshadowed her time in political office. And we have Real Estate billionaire mogul Donald Trump, on the Republican ticket. Mr. Trump has been categorized as a xenophobe, racist, sexist and tendencies of being a loose cannon, as evidenced in his wildly offensive and off the cuff remarks as it relates to, well, just about everything...

But my issue, isn't so much about their personality flaws or transgressions, after all, we all have them; my concern essentially is that we haven't had the opportunity to truly hear about their policies, agendas and plans to move our Nation forward, due to the plethora of distractions.

I mean think about it.

Clinton cannot seem to escape the dark cloud above her regarding emails, a private server and the tragedies in Benghazi. After all the investigations, political posturing and millions of dollars spent, she was found not to be in violation of selling secrets to a foreign nation or risking our nation's security; yet we barely hear news about Clinton and not for it to be followed-up regarding these damn emails. Nevertheless, there are some conflicting accounts of what really happen at that U.S. Embassy... Press releases stating one thing, while the investigation found conflicting information.

Was it intentional?

Was it a cover up?

Was it an attempt to protect sensitive information while the investigation was on going? Only a few people on Earth know the truth. Hillary is one of them.

And then there is Donald Trump. I mean, some of the things this man says are enough for me to have an asthma attack--and I don't even have asthma! Trump clearly displays his discontent with being politically correct, which some consider a good thing. But there is a thin line between "speaking your mind" and illustrating to the American people you have the diplomacy and temperament to be President of the United States.

We are on the brink of choosing the next leader of the free world. Arguably, thee most important job in the universe. A job, whose only requirements are to be;

a Natural born citizen of the US;

at least 35 years old and;

to have lived in the United States for at least 14 years.

Considering this job is pretty important, you'd think there would be a tad bit more required...a topic for another time.

Look, enough with the personalities and unfavorable comments. Let's get to the issues that affect the average American. Let's talk about our national security policies. Let's talk about our nation's economy and getting people back to work. Let's talk about keeping jobs here within the borders of the United States. Let's talk about our relationships with other nations and see how we can mend misunderstandings and identify our true enemies!

We, as Americans, are much better than this. Since when did our Presidential election cycle become a preverbal three-ring circus? I can imagine us being the laughing stock across the globe. What is more interesting, is elected officials are constantly chanting that people should get more involved in the process. People should be more aware and proud to perform their civic duty. Can you imagine giving that type of speech to a new voter only for them to hear the ranting and raving between the two candidates talk about emails and how Muslims are bad?

Would that kind of rhetoric motivate you to vote?

Why would anyone vote under those types of circumstances?

It is time for America to get serious. I mean, like, really serious and move our country forward. Our government needs to keep an ear to the ground and understand the woes and hear the demands from the American people!
