Comments FAQ
Q: What is the 23/6 Comment Policy"?
23/6 pre-moderates all comments on 236.com and Dickipedia.org. While we never censor comments based on political or ideological point of view, we do delete comments that, in our sole discretion:
- are abusive, off-topic and/or use excessive foul language;
- certain ad hominem comments, including those that celebrate the death or illness of any person;
- are derogatory based on race, religion, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation and/or otherwise similarly derogatory;
- are solicitations and/or advertising;
- violate our Terms of Use Agreement and/or Privacy Policy; and/or
- contain pretentious and unnecessary Latin phrases like "ad hominem" thrown in just to show everyone how smart you are.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, this Comment Policy is not intended, and may not be relied upon to, and does not, create any right enforceable by any party other than 23/6 or require 23/6 to take or refrain from taking any action (including but not limited to removing comments).
Q: I posted a comment. Why can't I see it on the site?
A: There are three scenarios for why your comment may not appear:
1. It may be pending approval. Comments on 236.com and Dickipedia.org are moderated BEFORE they appear on the sites, and this takes time. Depending on the volume of comments at any given time, the length of the delay between a comment being posted and it being approved will vary, and the delay will be longer during peak hours. We appreciate your patience and ask that you refrain from posting the same comment repeatedly.
2. Your comment violated this Comment Policy
3. Your comment is simply too brilliant to appear on the site and has been forwarded to the 23/6 Commemorative Plaque Department to be etched in brass and placed atop a gold-plated trophy shaped like Arianna Huffington. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery of trophy. Etching charge of $89.99 applies, payable on receipt.
Q: Why am I blocked from submitting a comment to 23/6?
A: A commenter might be blocked from submitting a comment if the commenter has previously posted comments that violate this Comment Policy. This means the abusive commenter is banned from commenting on the site in the future, even if the later comments are not abusive. We ban IPs because the sheer volume of comments makes it too time consuming to individually delete comments written by someone who has previously violated this Comment Policy.
Q: Can I include HTML in my comments?
A: No - we remove all html from comments to preserve formatting consistency and to keep nerds from showing off.
Q: If you don't allow any HTML, how can I include a link in my comment?
A: If you include a URL in your comment, it will be converted to a link. Please note: comments containing links to inappropriate sites or content used for commercial purposes may be deleted. ONLY links to relevant news stories or sites are acceptable, unless it's some really hot fetish site we haven't seen before. We're talking really hot. Then maybe.
Q: I would like to reference a government document in my comment. What format should I use to cite the source?
A: You may use the following example as a guide to citing government documents:
United States. Senate. Committee on the Judiciary. Hearing on the Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 1998. 105th Cong., 2nd sess. S.J. Res.1529. Washington: GPO, 1999.
Q: How can I include a paragraph break in my comment?
A: Empty lines in the body of your comment will be converted to paragraph breaks.
Q: There is a comment that I find in violation of this Comment Policy. What can I do?
A: If you come across a comment that you believe violates this Comment Policy, first, shake your head wearily in resigned disbelief at a world that would allow miscreants to freely post such filth on the Internet. You may then flag the comment as abusive by pressing the Flag As Abusive link below the comment. This alerts our moderators who will reconsider whether the comment complies with this Comment Policy.
Q: Can I change my username?
A: No, once you've registered, you cannot change your username. Should've thought twice about that hilarious screen name, BigTool21.
Q: Can I edit or delete my comments once they've been approved and posted?
A: No, once you've posted a comment, you cannot edit or delete it.
Q: How do I change my e-mail alert preferences?
A: To change your e-mail alert preferences, click on the Account Info link at the top of any page.
Q: How do I close my account?
A: To close your account, click on the Account Info link at the top of any page, and then click on the Close Account button. If you choose, you may uncheck the box next to "I would like to receive late-night drunken e-mails from 23/6 begging me to take them back."
