The Audacity of the Vatican

Anne Polsky | Bio

Remember back in November when lots of Black people were on TV saying that they would continue to tell their children that they could grow up to be anything they wanted to be, except now they'd really mean it?

Well Time.com says there's still one thing they'll need to lie about, and that is becoming The Pope. Though Catholicism is spreading faster across Africa than in any other part of the world, the Papacy is still exclusively for Old White Men (kind of like Colonialism, which Africa also welcomed with open arms). Heck, even Jesuits call their Pope the Black Pope (he's White though. Clever!) Note: Given Obama's victory over here in the U.S., there's no word yet on bi-racial candidates chances in Rome, but were betting they follow the old one drop rule.

Why does the Vatican continue to crush the Papal dreams of melanin-positive believers? If Jesus was most likely Black, his father was probably Black too, right? Did they not study history growing up? Oh, wait, that's sort of like asking Sarah Palin about evolution vs. creationism. So many of faith's questions are best answered by Catholic scholars. Call us if you know any. I'm guessing the Vatican also doesn't tune in to NPR very often; they declared our era to be post-racial a few months ago. Somehow gentrifiers and real estate agents didn't get that memo yet. But I guess it's on the way.

Anyway, our suggestion is to take a clue from noted religious organizer Louis Farrakhan. A Million Man March on St. Peters Square sounds effective. If one million Black men showed up on the Pope's door step, they'd get reform happening faster than you could say affirmative action Jackson in Latin.
