Year of the Sex Scandal

Jane Condon | Bio

What a year 2008 has been!

A lot of people say this is the Year of the Recession or the Year of the Election, but I would like to nominate 2008 as the Year of the Sex Scandal. What is going on here?

This year, John Edwards cheated on his wife who has terminal breast cancer. He explained, "But my wife was in remission." Oh, that explains it!

It's not just the guys either. Barbara Walters revealed in her book, Audition, that she had had an affair with a married United States senator. Oh, I'm sure he was delighted to have her go public with that information. I was shocked: I always thought she had a thing for Fidel Castro. (Well, good thing he's banned American television, so he won't find out.)

Then there was the husband of the senator from Michigan. He got caught with a prostitute. She cost $150. All I could think was, "Prostitutes are cheap in Michigan!"

And what a lot of crazy governors we have right here in the New York tri-state area. Jim McGreevey, former governor of New Jersey, is reported to have had threesomes. I have enough trouble having a two-some. If I'm having a three-some, it's because Sister Edwardette is in my head going, "Don't do it. Don't do it."

David Paterson, current governor of New York, had extramarital affairs. The man has limited vision. I have all my vision, nothing happens to me. Do you know where he took his wife for make-up sex? To a Days Inn! Honey, you may not be able to see, but she can!

But to me, the king of the idiots is still Eliot Spitzer. He spent $4,000 for an evening with a call girl. Four thousand dollars! I'm going to tell you the truth here: there is nothing I could do for my husband at the end of which he'd say, "Now that's worth $4,000!"

I can only imagine what 2009 will bring. Happy New Year everyone.
