Brett Favre Breaks the Madden Curse Color Barrier |
East Rutherford, NJ -- Brett Favre threw three interceptions here yesterday to complete the Jets' stunning collapse from playoff contention and in the process made history as the first white athlete to have his season ruined by the Madden Curse. The curse, which rose to prominence after the first seven athletes who appeared on the cover of the popular football video game suffered season ending injuries or disastrous on field performances, had never affected a white player until Favre completely shit the bed against the Dolphins.
For Favre, the breaking of the historic barrier served as the lone bright spot on a day that likely marked the end of his storied NFL career. "I am definitely bummed to have missed the playoffs but just the same it is about time that the top selling sports franchise of all time jinxed a white athlete" said the upbeat Favre, flanked by both Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as he spoke outside the teams locker room. "All of the previous athletes who appeared on the cover have encountered bad luck that season. Marshall Faulk, Dorsey Levens, Michael Vick, Daunte Culpepper, Donovan McNabb, Ray Lewis, Vince Young, they all either got hurt or played like they had money on the other team that year. Now with my 21 touchdown, 22 interception season that saw not only my team, the Jets, not make the playoffs, but my old team the Packers, whose uniform I was wearing on the cover of this years Madden not make it as well, well shit if that aint progress I don't know what progress is anymore."
While Favre was happy with the integration of the curse Sharpton was quick to remind reporters that there was still work to be done as no white athletes have ever been affected by the Campbell's soup curse to this day. The curse has affected several notable players including Ladainian Tomlinson and the late Reggie White.
