The Commercialization of Festivus

Matt Solomon | Bio

Someone has to say it: Festivus has gotten too damn commercial.

Like all such things, it started innocently enoug: Charlie Brown lamenting the shortness of his Festivus Pole; radio stations playing Festivus songs right after Halloween; and the occasional Festivus bonfire gone awry.

Then it's the sales. BUY BUY BUY! And the proliferation of glitzy Festivus television specials on every channel, like Nick and Vanessa's Festivus in Mexico.

Let's be honest. This was just a flimsy excuse to see pretty people in bathing suits singing Festivus carols...although the "Airing of the Grievances" with Vanessa Hudgens captured the spirit of the season.

Leave it to our men and women overseas to remind us of the true meaning of Festivus.

A simple aluminum pole, a demonstration of Feats of Strength, and a quiet moment to honor our Lord and Savior, Jerry Stiller.
