Cindy McCain in VOGUE: OMG her thighs are so fat
A feature and photo essay about Budweiser heiress Cindy McCain, the second wife of GOP presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain, is featured in Vogue magazine's June issue. The former rodeo queen's hair is studiously unshellacked for once, and she's wearing jeans, perched in a deck chair on a patio. Her stiffly posed limbs shatter the illusion of relaxation, though, and her expression is pinched, if not slightly traumatized. (Did somebody ask her about her tax returns?)
Last fall, when Vogue had Annie Leibovitz (a.k.a. Miley Cyrus' pornographer) shoot Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, those formal, classic, preppy pics downplayed Michelle Obama's threatening blackness by referencing Jackie Kennedy. Cindy McCain's photos downplay Cindy's freaky-eyed, pill-thievin', robotlike, recipe-plagiarizin' qualities, and highlight her accessible, outdoorsy side. Just how successful is Cindy's turn in Vogue, though? Sad to say, when the photo is placed in another context, the mood and message evoked is decidedly more commercial than Cindy probably hoped:
