Last week, Barack Obama spoke at a synagogue in Boca Raton, Fla, in an attempt to reassure older Jewish voters that he will be a strong advocate for Israel. While younger Jews are flocking to Obama, their parents and grandparents have fallen prey to internet gossip which claims, among other things, that Obama is a Muslim who will appoint Rev. Farrahkhan to a cabinet position.
Oddly enough, the fears and suspicions of older Jews sound surprisingly similar to the ones expressed by "white, working class" voters during West Virginia's primary. Is it possible that poor, Appalachian whites and rich, retired Jews have something in common besides a distrust of Mexicans?
