News that has nothing to do with the election

  • Ed McMahon has been hit hard by the housing collapse. When even a man with an impossibly difficult and crucial job like saying "yes" at opportune moments can't afford his mansion, we've got a problem in this country.

  • Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has essentially shut down the Senate today by requesting that the Senate clerk read all 500 pages of the bill on global warming. Out loud. The request was due to an an unrelated dispute with Majority Leader Harry Reid over Bush's judicial appointments. McConnell plans to solve his next Senate dispute by pantsing those who disagree.

  • Condoleezza Rice called any talks with Iran pointless Tuesday. The Bush Administration is clearly sticking with a tried and true formula of not speaking to countries with which it disagrees, the same anti-diplomacy that has transformed North Korea, Iran, and the Palestinian areas into shining examples of free democracies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe's opposition party leader, was held by police Wednesday in what he calls a clear case of intimidation by the government of longtime president Robert Mugabe. It really shouldn't be that much of a surprise to him seeing as he was campaining while black at the time. I mean, Barack Obama doesn't throw a tantrum every time he's put through a cavity search at an airport.
