   Quick Quiz: Bob Barr

Suddenly Republicans are afraid that former hard-right congressman turned Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr could be to John McCain what the stunningly still-unrepentant Ralph Nader was to Al Gore in 2000. Paul Slansky wonders how much people know about this would-be spoiler.

1) True or false? On Da Ali G Show, Bob Barr was one of the customers at the country and western bar happily singing along to Borat's "Throw the Jew Down the Well."
True. When confronted with the footage he claimed that he thought they were singing "Throw the shoe down the well."
False. He did, however, appear in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, where he was given cheese described by Borat as having been made from his wife's breast milk.
2) Which of these statements about Bob Barr is NOT true?
The 2002 Almanac of American Politics described him as "humorless, pessimistic, sarcastic, to the point that his wife beeps him when he is on TV, 'Smile, honey.'"
Though he authored the 1996 law prohibiting the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages, now, as the 2008 Libertarian party candidate, he's for it.
An Atlanta lawyer said of him, "He's certainly not a hail fellow well-met. When he tells a funny story, you have to think twice about whether to laugh."
Though he used to be one of the most vociferous opponents of medical marijuana - saying of it in 2002, "This is not medicine. It is bogus witchcraft" - now, as the 2008 Libertarian party candidate, he's for it.
He was once photographed licking chocolate syrup off of a woman's chest.
Though he voted for the Patriot Act and for the Iraq war, now, as the 2008 Libertarian party candidate, he's against both of them.
A Santa Monica writer said of him, "He has that kind of mustache you want to pluck out slowly, whisker by whisker."
3) What was Bob Barr photographed licking off of a woman's chest?
Whipped cream.
Ice cream.
Caviar.
4) True or false? While then-congressman Bob Barr was out there shrieking daily for the impeachment of Bill Clinton, Larry Flynt's investigators revealed that Barr had also used a cigar for purposes unconnected with ingesting tobacco.
True. Barr threatened a lawsuit and the charge was retracted.
False. What they found was that Barr - one of the most vociferous opponents of abortion - not only didn't object to his second wife's having one, but he drove her to and from the procedure, which he paid for.
5) Two of these statements refer to both Bob Barr and John McCain. Which one refers only to John McCain?
He's famous for having a really nasty temper.
He's been referred to as a "maverick."
He called his wife a "cunt" in public.
